The whole album of diary and ultimate are all tuned down 1/2 step. It has to do with Ozzy's voice. His voice fluctautes at times (due to excessive drug and alcholol use)So its not because of Zakk.hell the last album of black label most songs were standard tuning.Years of alcohol abuse really damages vocal chords and quality of speech as evident by Ozzy.DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE OZ but the reason they tune down is due to ozzys voice.I received this info from Zakks guitar tech whom i am friendswith

I heard it a few times on the radio. The guitar was kinda in the background and the solo was really short,comprised of just feed-back sounds. Personally I think he is one of, if not the best, "technically" speaking

Joe left the band in 1998 due to his religious views and the image that Ozzy was portraying, however he rejoined in 2000 for the Ozzfest tour. Joe left the band while recording and writing the Down to Earth album. While Joe doesn't play on the album the songs "Facing Hell", "Junkie", and "That I Never Had", which Joe co-wrote, appeared on the album. Joe is working with former Ozzy bandmate Robert Trujillo on a new project in Los Angeles.

Aww man, I remember seeing Ozzfest when Holmes toured w/Ozzy... wish I had never been there. This guy sqwawks/pinch harmonics in one night than Zakk Wylde would do in 3 weeks. The worst was Ozzy himself, poor guy's voice was shot to pieces in THREE songs and sounded like he was toast just as he sounds here. Cool thing is he's recovered and doing great nowadays and Zakk is back so all is well.
