Fighting against your own people who are pusthus tribement like the taliban who are alos pusthuns is demoralizing which any army general will tell you such as Indians genral will tell their stories of Kashmir . No 2 the strategy should be ween taliban form al-qeada and ween pusthun tribes away from taliban hardliners and US to forma broad based govt having moderate taliban by those taliban not interwineed with alqeada ( non pusthun actors ) and then deal with alqeada as law enforcement issue
