it does use parts of internet explorer. it works through wine because internet explorer 5.5 and 6 can run under wine.

It actually swaps it out with the wine gecko browser (same rendering engine as firefox), which, apparently, makes you unable to purchase games via steam. (So a friend tells me, never tried. Lazy, too.)

You would need a program that helps put Programs that work on Windows to work for Linux such as WINE, Crossover, cegeda.

omg, how do you have vent and xfire working in Linux?? Seriously, if I had xfire working in Linux and recognizing my games then I would blow out my windows partition once and for all.

also, those cool effects are Beryl. You can install it on any DM or WM. I have Beryl running on Fluxbox (X) on Gentoo. Beryl seems to work best with KDE so if you're new to Linux and you want an easy time with some eye-candy, try Kubuntu
