Both amazing, Hendrix probably a slightly better player, but in saying that, Page didn't do the solo trip like Hendrix, Clapton and Beck. Page could have used bit players and took the limelight, but he wanted to create a band that would conquer the world...and that he did. Zeppelin created a body of work unmatched by any band or artist before or since.

They were both brilliant guitarists, but with different styles. I always felt that Hendrix played stuff that was technically easier to play, but played it like nobody else ever did. Like Sam Cooke's voice, only through a guitar. Page, on the other hand, played stuff that was extremely difficult to play, and probably beyond his capabilities when it came to live performance. Kind of like Robert Plant's voice, only through a guitar. There's something to be said for both approaches.

Jimi Hendrix is the one who changed the sound of the instrument in rock music, period. None of those British cats, as great as they were, could play the blues like Hendrix. That does not mean they weren't great, but, really. In the jazz world some could argue John Coltrane was or was not as great a player as Charlie Parker, but that's stupid, too. With Hendrix, there just was not anyone in the British or American "Rock" scene at that time.
