He's South African. He states he grew up in Johannesburg. His accent has changed a bit due to him being in Canada, but I can still pick up his South African accent. I am from Namibia, so I can pick it up. Sharlto Copley's accent is the real deal though.... but there are different accents depending on one's background. If you are raised in an English speaking family your accent will be different from someone who is say, raised speaking Afrikaans.

I am glad Halo got abandoned because Neil gave us a sci fi gem called District 9. With Halo there was a big budget on the line, corporate executives breathing down your neck. District 9 is low budget and the creators had total freedom. This is what happens when film makers are allowed what they are supposed to do, make great movies.
