  • I just got one of these helis for free. Had no battery, no charger, and no controller that I could find...but anyway the controller would cost around $55, and the battery and charger would cost (I don't know, anyone else know?) Is it worth it to get the things to get this in the air (guessing like just under $100) or is it such an outdated thing that I'd be better off putting it on a shelf, and buying myself a more modern, up-to-date heli with a brushless motor, and carbon fiber blades?

  • @Hogwit it depends on your level. Starting out CF main blades and brushless power won't help you much; the more powerful motor can even make learning troublesome. If you post an ad on RCGroups.com someone will sell you a pre-owned transmitter for less than 55.00. Batteries are a necessary expense but again, someone will sell you some 800 mah 3s batteries for less.

One way or the other you are going to do lots of repair and reassembly so it may even be to your advantage to start right it!

  • Did I see that you were using the longer AXE blades?

  • @Bryanisms yes, back when I was searching for any way to keep it in the air while I developed basic flying skills.... ;)

  • @chuanist Ah. So, was it more docile? Float better or something? I just did the direct drive tail rotor upgrade for it. Haven't flown it yet with it.

  • cool. I got some skids a while ago. They are cool. The Carbon Fiber skids look good in my opinion. White doesn't match, but it does bring out the heli. Also, along your flight, I dont see any glitching in your heli... When I did the antenna setup like you did, it glitches, so I just wrapped the antenna around the skids like it came originally. Also, cool, we are city neighbors... kinda.

    Happy Flight!

  • For the record I stopped using SuperSkidz a few months after this video was made. The stock LG are lighter and work well after an RC pilot learns to land softly.

  • I like your tail and boom assembly. Where did you get it? It looks a lot cooler than the stock stuff. I just got my CP after flying the crap out of a CX2. So far it's been enormously challenging, but I'm sure I'll progress.

  • The fins come with the Superskidz after market landing gear. They are okay for first steps. I took them off later to save weight and improve handling.

  • @charles1967 i have a cx2.. did a mass transport project in school so i got to do speed tests in school with it today. 2.56 m/s, but thts with a plastic platform attached to skids (less lift) and little time to accelerate.

  • Is there a brushless motor on yours?

  • When this video was made there was not. If you view 'Blade CP Pro flying nose-in' you will see the same heli with a Park 370 brushless inrunner.

  • how well does that telebee HH gyro work, im thinking on getting the same one because its like 25 bucks less than the E-flite. does that tail drift at all with that one?

  • The Telebee works okay mostly. It is sensitive to temperature and/or humidity, so you can wind up flying the tail like with a rate gyro until it gets used to conditions. In nice weather it holds like a champ.

  • Nice even flying. Better than I can do! Is that a gyro sitting on the bac of the heli? and Superskids underneath?

  • Hi Doc— thanks for the encouragement. You will surely get there and far beyond. All any of us needs is more stick time.

Yes, that is a Telebee HH gyro. I no longer fly with Superskidz after learning to land softly. The heavier LG upsets the center of gravity and the weight reduces flying time.

If you look up my latest videos you will see the Blade doing circles and nose in ... a little hard-won progress! ;)

  • That is good tail control, nice hover.

I recently got a Blade CP Pro after having only flown an ESky Lama v3 so far. I haven't left the ground yet. It takes a lot of practice on the ground before you can hover like that. Good work, thanks for posting.

  • Thanks. You will be able to do this a much more. Since practice = flying a helicopter it's all good, right?

  • Those blade are way to long. If your going to fly 3D get smaller blade cuz those blade will flex to much and chop of your tail boom.Nice flying:)

  • Thanks for your concern, but in practical terms there is no problem with using slight longer blades. I ask you: how much time do you think it will take to go from hovering to 3D? Think these blades will still be on the heli?

  • Now that's a comeback! I can't even get mine off the ground. I will be months or years before 3D....not to mention 100 sets of blades!

  • nvm i know now. i think its cause of gyroscopic precession. but thanks for the help. nice hovering btw

  • My blade CP has an issue i think. When I add a little power to the helicopter and when i go completely up on the left side of the transmitter, the blades seem to kinda go northwest. When i go down on the left of the transmitter, it goes South east and so fourth. Is this normal and does urs do tht also?

  • I'm not sure what you are describing. PM me if you like, or ask your question on RChelicoptertown•com

  • Oh does anyone have the factory settings for the gain/proportional mixer...Thanks for your time

  • Thanks guys!! I guess i'm going to have to bust out the training sticks..I bent my main shaft today...

  • Keep trying; you'll get it. At first the Blade is hard. Later it will be easy—believe it or not.

Main motor = stock. Servos = Hitec 55. Left stick = rudder. Tx mode = normal.

    More info on ABCheli•com

  • Man Just got mine and this crap is hard. I can't get mine off the ground without it going backwards. And just to make sure..does the left joy stick control rudder too?

  • Anhoter question, the servos and motor is factory stock ?

  • What flye model is using ? Normal idle or UP (acrobatic)

  • Kyle— congrats on your new heli. Frankly, the Bell Hiller upgrade, while great, is probably not your first priority. The training gear won't keep it from lifting off. Try disconnecting the motor leads from the 3-in-1, then give it full positive pitch (left stick all the way up) and check the angle of the main blades. They should be around 9 degrees or more positive pitch.

You are welcome to continue this discussion thrrough the e-mail contact link at: abcheli•com

  • I really like how well you got it to hover so rock steady. I just got my blade cp a few weeks ago, but still can't fly it. After I got it, I put on the bell hiller upgrade, but It doesn't want to lift off. Can the upgrade be the problem, or could it be the extra wide training gear weighing it down?

  • I have this problem with the gain. I normally trim the gain until it start to wag a bit and then back off like it is being said. However the heli can't turn properly because the gyro keeps pushing the tail back when trying to turn and wagging mid air. Do you guys have this problem.

  • The proportional pot may be too high - try turning the right-most adjustment screw a tiny bit to the left and fly it. Soon there will be tuning info about the Blade on our web site.

  • Kanamite— balancing the helicopter is important; so is the way you fly it. I balance the blades first, then use the battery location to be sure that the Center of Gravity is in line with the main shaft. That means the tail boom should either be level with the ground (or table top) or tiled slightly forward. More info will appear soon at: ABCheli•com.

  • hey i have a blade cp pro and i was wondering how you balance it??? please i need help cause it goes every where

  • I'm getting one soon. Any words on what to expect and or change or anything at all?

  • Jschwar7— at first you may want the 'super skidz' because it takes some time to learn how to land. The stronger skids save you money. Later the heli will fly better with stock skids. Have you flown single-rotor heli's before? They are very different than co-axial birds. I will post flying advice for beginners on my new website: ABCheli•com in the next couple of weeks.

  • Jschwar7— see my remark to Kanamite. I have added information to my comments about the BCPP on ABCheli•com under 'types of helicopters/common models/. Have you flown RC heli's yet? Maybe a co-axial heli? If not, read the section on learning how to fly....

  • Were are your gyro settings? Had mine flying like yours then changed some stuff then it's all over the place...

  • The gyro on my BCPP is a Telebee. I adjusted the gain until it began to wag the tail, then backed off until it stopped. I probably did something with the proportional pot too, but I forget what. Twiddle with the proportional first, until the tail stays towards you, then the gain, I think.

  • hey, great job...it looks like you have some aftermarket landing skids and tail mount? i was wondering if you like them and if you could tell me the maker where you got them. was this your first rc heli? it is mine and im having a HELL of a time with it. thanks! John

  • Thanks-- the heli has had Super Skids (maybe skidz?) on it. I like them when I do hard landing, but I'm starting to wonder if it will fly better with the original, lighter skids. My local hobby shop carries the skids, and they are also available on the Internet.

  • What type of blades are you using? And do they make the helicopter fly more stable then before? GJ on hovering! How long have u had the BCPP for ?

  • Greetings--I just discovered that I"m getting remarks about my videos.

I use flat-bottomed balsa blades indoors, and symmetrical balsa outdoors. They are made by eFlite (who makes the heli) and I get 'em from my local hobby shop in Berkeley, CA

  • Update— I no longer fly with E-flite Blades. I get E-sky balsa symmetrical blades for the Honey Bee CP or CP2 on the Internet for less than half of the retail price of E-flite blades. Buy 'em 5 and 10 sets at a time...
