@cperez1000 read the rest of the Rubaiyat. the funny thing is that most translated versions are still missing a lot of lines, the mongolians burned his books, the Antique Muslims actually promulgated it, see the contrast to today. he does the same about other religions and even into the nationalist of Persia and Rome, that they were great once but now they are to dust... you have rumi who criticizes all the books and that in the end God is in our own hearts, even Harun Al Rashid has a few.
oh wow its fascinating to see a different translation completely from Fitzgerald's....I need to get this in hard copy! And very nicely read too, thank you!
Thanks for this. I had never heard this translation before. I like it very much, probably due as much to your reading as to the words. I have favorited this. Sorry you disabled ratings.
i have this whole book, it looks ancient, if anyone could message me and summarize the meaning of this book, it would be greatly appreciated

Thank you Sir! As a fan of Christopher Hitchens I salute you! Hitchens claims that the line:
And do you think that unto such as you,
A maggot-minded, starved, fanatic crew,
God gave the Secret, and denied it me?--
Well, well, what matters it! believe that too."
Is enough to denounce all religion, in all its forms and all its propitiations.

"Epic" is a word that describes this.
"The Koran! well, come put me to the test--
Lovely old book in hideous error drest--
Believe me, I can quote the Koran too,
The unbeliever knows his Koran best.
And do you think that unto such as you,
A maggot-minded, starved, fanatic crew,
God gave the Secret, and denied it me?--
Well, well, what matters it! believe that too."
Inspiring.

A beautiful recitation! Thank you for putting 'the heart' in it.
The 'feelings' generated by the spoken words are the sweetest fruits of the whole experience.

"...to read it meaningfully." You've certainly done that. The best I've heard it done. What a great piece of work.
