It is true that you need to do what you can to better your country but that isn't directy related to how patriotic you are. Patriotism is about love. Take the Patriot Guard Riders for instance. They are true patriots are they not? But they don't actually better America in a measurable sense (like bringing in x dollars to America, or saving x amount of jobs), but they are one of this largest patriotic organizations this nation has.
The only problem I see with the conclusion is: The argument he stated made it sound like those who are most successful are more patriotic. It is true that you need to do what you can to better your country but that isn't directy related to how patriotic you are. Patriotism is about love. Take the Patriot Guard Riders for instance. They are true patriots are they not? But they don't actually better America in a measurable sense (like bringing in x dollars to America, or saving x amount of jobs), but they are one of this largest patriotic organizations this nation has.

Doctors or Engineers do a lot fore this nation, seemingly more than their secretary does, but that doesn't mean they are more patriotic. I disagree with his conclusion, because the secretary could invest $1,000 dollars to by a flag pole so they can fly their american flag whereas the doc couldnt care less if he lived in america or some other country.

Patriots are typically killed by their own government for standing up against it. Most political prisoners are probably patriots, knowing they would be killed, tortured or imprisoned they speak up anyway against an oppressive government.

A true patriot should love his country 100% of the time and agree with the values defined by our founding fathers. Because even under a tyrannical government the flag will still represent freedom. However, distrusting your government does not mean you are disagreeing with your country. NEVER stop distrusting your government, its what the founding fathers would have wanted.
