I always thought this was the perfect Miami Vice episode. At the time, this was one of my favorite songs and it fits perfectly with this episode. Although, it hard to believe that Sonny would be cool enough to dodge the bullet with that steel lined briefcase. The whole episode was great! Also, one of my favorites.
Young people might think the show was cool, which it was. The problem is was real, I live in San Diego, next to the Mexican border, whether you were involved or not, the drug smugglers and dealers were always ready to take what was yours. It was the "Wild West" with out any romanace. Luckily most of it was chased back to Mexico, where they are killing each other everyday.
@kingomar69 Scorsese got hired to film the Band's farewell concert for The Last Waltz because Robbie Robertson felt he knew perfectly about matching music with film. Goodfellas is a masterwork of 30 years of songs capturing the emotions of the story.
When bland scenery (sand) can be the framing element in a televised scene, added with a dramatic tension that pulls a whole scene together, one that you can see & feel ..... damn ! Why can the fag idiots in Hollywood not just repeat formulas of success? This stuff was gripping and made you respond from a gut level. So much for 'welcome to the plastic age'........
@CosmopolitanFools You just answered your own question in the form of a question.,......Why can the fag idiots in Hollywood not just repeat formulas of success?
See that's the problem right there.......trying to repeat what Hollywood accomplished during the Golden years. Look at all the flopped remakes and sequels we've been getting around 2007 and afterwards.
@audioproducer88 audio I'm split on this issue. If hollywood chose not to remake (and or reinvision) stuff fromt he 80's i think they might have been more successful. If , for instance, hollywood chose to continue the miami vice story and made no connection to the original show , then maybe it might have been better recieved. its hard to explaint he durg market these days to people. in the 80's, it was all about badguys and coke, now its any and everything.
I love this!!! Takes me right back to a time when things were simple, days and nights were long and fun, watching Miami Vice was one of the things that made it all the more special, thanks for posting this !!!! brings back memories !!!!
Was there anybody cooler than Sonny Crockett in the 80s,blows a geezer away then blows off stunner without a word, just shes about to beg him to go back to her gaff he puts his Ray bans on.SEE YA.Now thats COOL!!!!
thank you so much for posting one of the geatest scenes and shows of Miami Vice. Arielle Dombassle in her prime (here) was one of the hottest women to ever walk this planet! Great call!
Jeden z najlepszych moim zdaniem seriali jaki powstał przede wszystki dobór aktorów Tomas and Johnson no i oczywiscie soundtrack rewelacja - oczywiscie wszystko z pod reki reżysera Manna - mistrzostwo swiata
This one episode is without doubt the best episode of the series. It is so perfect. And i love this song too. They cannot make a show this good anymore. Love Miami Vice!!!
great episode and score 20 yrs later like this version of godley and creme's cry sounds surreal. Lieutenant Castillo's angry stare was epic so much said with silence. great writing that woman was just a black widow burying her gullible male victims in the sand. before sonny could turn his back she was already trying to seduce the cop arresting her. sweet and potent is pretty poison it'll get you everytime.
@HellsHord I know what you mean about Castillo's contempt. Edward James Olmos nailed it. Especially when you factor in what we learned about Castillo in later seasons.
At the end of "Out Where the Buses Don't Run", when Weldon calls Tubbs to tell him he has Acaro, Tubbs tells Catillo "Lt. we're gonna need back up" Castillo frowns and says " I know what you're going to need" He then calls Weldon's ex partner Marty.
@starbearry hey you know this is a great ending. the steel briefcase, the stare..shes so nasty,he needs a checkup..gots to lay of the bitches crocket..
I don't like "Miami Vice". It makes me think too much. I am happy with dumbed down predictable repetitive crap like "Law & Order", "House" and the 5 or 6 versions of "CSI".
Perhaps the BEST Vice eposide EVER! This was great on many levels: 1 First time I can remember Sonny getting his ass kicked ! 2.Shows REAL life info on how MOST men are suckers for beautiful women.3.Shows the power of beauty in the WRONG hands.4.As usual, the best sound track show ever! Great post!
It seems like yesterday I saw this episode for the first time.Every Friday night, I would look forward to watching this show, what sucked was that I was in high school and I was so tired from the week of school, I would fall a sleep .Our VCR was broken, my folks waited almost a year before they bought a new one, they didnt want to drop $400 bucks for a new one. Yeah I said $400 bucks, that was a cheap one too.
Amazing when Sonny puts his glasses on...enough said.Certain actions require NO words whatsoever...Michael Mann a genius for his work on Miami Vice..
Ahhhh, takes me back to my high school days when, if there weren't high school football or basketball games on Friday night, I knew where I was....in front of my TV watching Miami Vice! Yeah, back when there were things worth watching on a Friday night!
To this day MIAMI VICE is the GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME. Hands down in my book. This is my favorite ending to a Miami Vice episode. I mean, I watched it once back in '85 and never saw it again for 20 years - when the DVD collection came out in 2005 - and I ALWAYS remembered it. A better show there will never be. Particularly the first two seasons. Thank you to everyone involved in making that show a towering achievement.
@Demonsterful My favourite were the first three seasons. The first 2 feeling more larger than life if anything, while the third was more "Law and Order" esque, (which makes sense since Dick Wolf Produced it, or had something to do with the series). I watched the fourth season and I didn't like it, stopped watching it halfway through.
God I miss the Friday nights in the 80's....now its reality shows like fake housewives of who cares where and bubba the tow truck driver. I hope heaven in 1983....over and over again
I don't watch TV, don't even have a converter box, but if they brought back reruns of Miami Vice, it would be the first thing I did! I was a young teen who wanted to be a cop and I lived for MV. I also had such a crush on Don Johnson and seeing him in the video now... well, he was a very good-looking man!
@flattop44sc I agree it would of been nice to see my lying, cheating ex wife picked up and carried away in a helicopter when she realized I found out who she really was.
To me this is the second best scene from Miami Vice, the Crockett and Tubbs cigarette boat ride to the Bahamas (Voices) is hard to beat. The look on her face when she realized Sonny was a cop is awesome. Love how he put the sunglasses on to blow her off. I always kind of felt bad for Sonny his personal life was always so messed up. The end scene with Crockett standing on the beach reflecting back on his life looking out to the ocean is sad I think he really liked that woman.
@mattiemjk The Cigarette boat ride with Voices might be the most amazing f'ing scene I saw on TV. I nearly crapped my pants. I was a nerdy sixteen y/o that had pimples. Crockett and Tubbs were two handsome men that had hot women. They were my idols.
They had csi's they were called investigators, you illiterate cock polisher. Crocket did both, not narc, he went undercover and investigation of deaths/crime scenes.
This is one of my favorite episodes in the series. I like Crockett's line about having the head and the heart at the sdame place at the same time, just once; this great song song really accentuates his earlier statement. Goes to show that no words need tro be spoken to get a point across.
Godley and Creme......wow.....Vice is the best. Splashing on Lagerfeld, Members Only Jacket on the ready, and Vuarnets ready to take down evil doers.....
Yep, the '80's were excellent. All the time in the world, cheap gas, cheap booze and the girls had no cell phones and only a few had cars... so we had the pick. Disco was crap. Don Johnson was in a great movie called The Hot Spot. I wish I was back in the '80's too. Hell, gimme the '90's!
It was the '80's and this show was so cutting-edge for its time, and so many stars made an appearance, Ted Nugent of course, and Phil Collins and Glen Frey, young stars like Kyra Sedgwick, Julia Roberts, Liam Neeson, Dennis Farina, Melanie Griffith, Stanley Tucci, Bill Paxton, Michael Madsen, Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, John Turturro, Penn Jillette, Pam Grier,Nathan Lane, and then there were the greats, like Little Richard and Eartha Kitt! Remember when Frank Zappa guest starred?!?
I was living in Miami Beach in the 80s and this series added to the special vibe of living there during the best decade of the 20th century (I know, this is subjective). It was a great time and place to be a teenager / young adult and Miami Vice made it even more special. The best cop show ever !!! Have been watching the entire series on DVD and Hulu and I am on season 5. An epic series that ends along with an epic decade. I know I will cry during the last minute of the last episode!
@joeblowthehot Well I felt seasons 3-5 were not consistent with the comedy elements, fashion taste, & sensible story lines. To me 3-5 just didn't measure up to 1 & 2 which made the series what it was and plus season 2 was when Miami Vice got all those Emmy wins & nominations so you know that was a big year for the show.
@PopCulture20 thankyou for reply..Iam going to watch the whole series for the first time..and i will keep what you said about 3 and 4 in mind!!..take care.. JB
@PopCulture20 But try to see it from a different perspective, as the times were beginning to change and give way to the 90s. The seasons are not bad (3-5), sure there are a few episodes that were not the best, but trust me that if you watch the entire series, you will gain the sense about where society was heading towards the end of the decade.
if a guy screws you on 2 K's of powder, drop 4 tons of sand on them.

@moyadapne lofl the 90s sucked so bad but early 90s was cool.

Miami Vice would have made a perfect Video game if it came out in the in the 80's when the show was still on.

This was my favorite show in the 80's but, the series went on too long and it lost it's edge. I don't even remember how it ended.

@80srule4ever I hated seasons 3-5 of Miami Vice which is why I always stop after season 2 when Im watching the series.
PopCulture20 7 months ago
@PopCulture20 what did you dislike about it? real question..just want to hear you critique..
joeblowthehot 7 months ago
@joeblowthehot Well I felt seasons 3-5 were not consistent with the comedy elements, fashion taste, & sensible story lines. To me 3-5 just didn't measure up to 1 & 2 which made the series what it was and plus season 2 was when Miami Vice got all those Emmy wins & nominations so you know that was a big year for the show.
PopCulture20 7 months ago
@PopCulture20 thankyou for reply..Iam going to watch the whole series for the first time..and i will keep what you said about 3 and 4 in mind!!..take care.. JB
joeblowthehot 7 months ago
@joeblowthehot Sure and I would love to hear your feedback as well on 3-4 when you're through watching them.
PopCulture20 7 months ago
@PopCulture20 I scimmed through them...GOD you are so right..woof...
joeblowthehot 7 months ago
@joeblowthehot LOL what episode made you decide to not watch them?
PopCulture20 7 months ago
@PopCulture20 But try to see it from a different perspective, as the times were beginning to change and give way to the 90s. The seasons are not bad (3-5), sure there are a few episodes that were not the best, but trust me that if you watch the entire series, you will gain the sense about where society was heading towards the end of the decade.
