  • @shitbox99 stop trying to argue your stupid theory that bmx was better in the 70s than it is now, As I said your living under a rock and are making a fool of yourself, its people like you who hinder the sport growing into what it is and will be. Its BMX it involves jumps and YES pumping. so stay away, as long as you do that i'm happy.. .

  • that is how you pump!!

  • well thats how I used ot warm my kids up when I was still coaching, and made a game out of it, whoever could make it the furthest the fastest... start with pumping and moove forward thats how you progress!

  • We are talking about two types of pumping. The first is cranking the gears and the second is the power pumping through rhythym sections with no pedal power. Either way, today's tracks are built faster. Less pedaling....you can actually coast an entire track. Old school tracks were slow enough that you had to pedal to cross the line. Also the turns today are all paved and sloped so no speed it lost. On old school tracks you would run out of speed in turns and you could pedal through them....

  • @guyvalaji Boystown BMX in Miami, my home track, had all paved berms as early as 1982 and was the site of an annual NBL War of the Stars National. The only difference in the tracks now is the extreme amount of jumps everywhere, which is the point I've repeatedly try to get across here. The sanctioning bodies made this change to slow down the fastest crankers and keep them from dominating, similar to how NASCAR limits speeds with restrictor plates to keep races more even.

  • @guyvalaji "Either way, today's tracks are built faster. Less pedaling....you can actually coast an entire track.", you said, and this proves my point, though for some illogical reason, you don't see it. On the older flatter tracks, your speed was entirely up to your cranking power and endurance, the track did not aid you. The last straight seperated the men from the boys and when you crossed the finish you were sucking wind. The tracks now require more skill, but less athleticism.

  • Lets not be cunts Think about this: On old school tracks u HAD to bang it up in the turns, crank to win and the tracks were designed to have big pass sections where most people crashed or made a sick move. New school tracks are faster and require more power and flow through ryhthym sections with less pedaling and passing. Both are fun as hell, and it would be cool to see a track that required all skill sets. Anyone who raced now and then knows there are two sets of skills that could be combined.

  • lol who needs pedals!

  • Pure Pumping Power!! The 3 P's

  • now the point of this video is that the rider who won was able to use his skills to win despite being at a DISADVANTAGE, having not been able to pedal. To think he wasnt at a disadvantage not being able to pedal out of the second and third corners is just laughable. its a joke it needs to be explained to some people. BMX racing is about skill and power anyone who argues that needs to piss off, the rider who won had more skills than the other riders enough to overcome the power advantage.

  • @staatsnick Really? No fuckin shit that's the point of the video. You seem unable to grasp how this video proves how the sport is no longer about power. There was a time if your chain snapped, you pulled off the track cuz you knew it was over. THAT'S when it was about CRANKING POWER and SPEED. When there was actually flat track to CRANK ON. The riders haven't changed, the tracks have. Watch video of NBL Grands A Pro in 86 and compare it to 2011. Barely cranking after the first turn.

  • @shitbox99 Here are the facts of this video for all the chumps who have varied opinions: First, Lee iwas dominating this race based on power down the first stretch. However this is a semi and they take 4 riders to the main. By the end of the race there were only three dudes who didn't fall and the guys in 2nd and 3rd were just trying to qualify, not pass Lee. Anyone who has been in a semi knows the strategy. Lee did out "pump" the other riders on the second stretch, but thats it...

  • @guyvalaji Yes, I'm fully aware of the strategy, having raced in hundreds of mains, semis, quarters and even eighths, in expert, open and cruiser when BMX was King. I've raced and followed the sport longer than 99% of today's riders have been alive. I disagree with your assertion that today's tracks are faster and require more power. That simply makes no sense, unless you believe pumpin over hills is faster than cranking full-tilt in a straight line.

  • you absolute retards, you should shut up shitbox you are just embarrassing yourself. go tell the elite riders of this time (ie real riders) that bmx reached its peak in the 80s and you will be laughed at. go ride on the road, and leave things your not capable of doing alone. you clearly have no idea how to ride a bike or no what this sport is about. I feel embarrased for you, you obviously have some sort of inferiority complex and live under a rock. show some respect you little wimp.

  • @staatsnick Hey she-male, if you got something to say to me then reply to me directly. You throwing out personal insults and you haven't a clue who I am makes you look like a complete fool. I don't give two shits what today's "elite riders" think. Of course they think it's better now cuz they have no idea what came before. My opinion is the same as most rider's in the BMX Hall of Fame. People I raced with and against. You know full well you're talkin out your ass not knowing history

  • Technique

  • shitbox your an absolute loser your saying bmx was better in the 70s than it is now wake up buddy. this kid is better than you ever were. you think all the other riders didnt pedal out of the second and third turns? the other riders were simply of a lesser caliber, a testament to the rider that won. lol, you guys obviously no shit all about bmx, thank god all that 70s shit is dead and buried, its about skill and power, stay away from the sport. people from the 70s and 80s are deluded

  • @staatsnick Oh yeah it's all skill and POWER??? Where in the fuck is power applied, dumbass??? The winner of this race doesn't apply any power after his CHAIN COMES OFF, you incredible retard! BMX reached it's peak in the 80s, period. Anyone that argues that point simply has no clue what they're talking about(i.e. you). You actually comment "it's about skill and power" about a video where a guy wins a race with no chain?? You should get some sort of trophy for extreme stupidity.

  • @staatsnick u comented "skill & power" skill was the prevailing factor for this riders win after losing his chain. The riding skills used to maintain his velocity or momentum without pedalling are awe inspiring. Win well deserved! However; this highlights how "POWER" becomes a non-factor,after the first turn, due to the track designs of, nowadays. Definition:apllied to mechanical power and in this case: power is the product of a torque on a shaft and the shaft's angular velocity.

  • Shitbox: Thank You. Look people...I don't mean to sound like a dick, but let's look at this in a practical manner. If the kid is winning the race coming out of turn #1 and nobody pedals from that point on, then the broken chain is out of the equation. It's not like the people behind him were spinning their gears to get by him. The race ended at turn one and everyone glided to the finish line. This is like ghost riding 5 bikes down a hill at the same time...

  • That's all skill! Slingshots, haters complain and say that's what did it for him. Meanwhile in 3 other lanes riders also slingshot. Is that cheating too since they also did it and didn't win? No of course not they didn't get a hole shot. Chain breaks and temporarily loses the lead. pull out whoop ass and takes charge. With no chain. Skills clinic.

  • lol crazy pump action man mad props I broke my chain in the last turn at the gold cup east in third place in 99 and lost by half a wheel lol

  • I raced BMX from 1979 to 1987 and I gotta say when I see shit like this I just gotta shake my head. This isn't racing, call it whatever you like, but it's not racing. It's a joke now as demonstrated by a guy "winning a race" without pedaling. R.I.P. BMX good times...

  • @shitbox99 called skill buddy. Something that wasn't invented until the early 90's

  • @leopard2a6junkie You must be very stupid if you truly believe that. I was speedjumping vertical-faced tabletops when I was 12 years old in 1980. You are obviously ignorant of the history of the sport. Just stfu and accept it.

  • @shitbox99 lol

  • pump pump pump it up !!!!!

  • i wont state ther a while back i loved raceing thar

  • holyyyy craaap

  • way cool, instead of giving up he rose up

  • He did slingshot the gate I've broken a chain in a race and still won that was in a national also

  • Slingshotting is/was not gate jumping @joncrottyable

  • That is great job! It is a very good teaching example! I use it to teach my son now!

  • @mantecabmx are you related to the winner

  • BMXjesus...

  • desoto...yes

  • @mantecabmx I also noticed that the kid rolled back about a foot and half on the gate, which is a gate jump. That hole shot was from the roll back. You don't need a chain if you jump the gate on a track that requires not pedaling after the first turn.

  • @joncrottyable your a fag your tryingto be all bad ass about saying oh well u dont need a chain anyway ass hole

  • @bmx4lifeDJ how was he being a fag he was trying to win a race

  • @joncrottyable LOL its slingshoting dumb fuck its not illegal

  • @joncrottyable Yeah and so did 3 other guys ass hat. The other kids had a shot at winning to but obviously he wanted it more. The rollback/slingshot or jumping, whatever you would like to call it has no effect after the chain broke.

  • imagine if he had a chain

  • face looks wierd at 0:11

  • crash at 0:26

  • Nice

  • what a beast

  • i did this exact same thing in nashville back in 09! racing 17-18n though

  • Pump track style, that was awesome the way he pumped his way to the finish!

  • It broke in the first turnn. I know i do bmx:)

  • Broke out of last turn , can kinda see it hit the dirt (puff)

  • he would have lost if the pedal didn't snap...lol

  • This was in Desoto. Thinking it was a National.

  • psst Austin's mom

  • Lee Lee you rocked

  • Was this a local race? Because there are a lot of people in his class..

  • the chain did snap coming out of the first turn.. epic race for sure...I'm sure he will never forget it, and the guys behind him will never live it down..LOL

  • @mantecabmx

This is the track located in DeSoto, Tx right?

  • That is how people dream of winning.it looks like it snapped in the first turn but I'm not sure but I want to loosen my chain before a race just to experience it.

  • that is awesome,, good job

  • That was awesome!
