To owners of Laika...I just recently saw your video on "How to potty train your puppy"and I was wondering after you guys take your puppy out for potty when their done with their breakfest...do you take them out again in 3 hours or in what certain time do you take your puppy out so it could get used to it doing potty outside?PLEASE try and answer me back because I am going to get my new puppy in about 1 week....Thanks

@josecaal94 I'm not sure how often they had to with Laika but all the people I knew with new puppies tried to take them out as often as possible. They don't have much bladder control (they're just babies, after all) so the more frequent the less likely you'll have to deal with accidents. 3 hours might be pushing it at first, they often should go out about every 1 - 2.

@josecaal94 I'm not the owner of Laika, but I can tell u how to potty train your pup. For my dog, I use a bell, so when he rings it, he needs to go outside. But to do this, you will need to show him/her how to go outside. Use a certain word. I tell my dog to go banjo... which is the spanish word for bathroom. Don't leave the puppy until he goes. If he goes, give him a treat and do the same process again the next day, or until he/she goes in the house. I hope this helped. Ask any questions.

@Tigereagle21 giving the puppy a treat while he goes outside to go the bathroom is bad idea, he may think that going outside is worth a treat not going to the bathroom. To do it the correct way for the dog or puppy to get that go to the bathroom outside is good by giving them a treat they would have to be in mid process of peeing or taking a shit or the moment after. Thats why you always have to treat the dog after it preforms a trick, its all about timing.

@josecaal94 3 hours is waaay to long for a puppy while potty training. i would wait half hour, or so depending on the age of the puppy. If it was in a shelter it will also depend on the progress in what stage the puppy is at for potty training. but a little advise BELLS!! put bells on the door knob of the door and everytime you take the puppy out to go to the bathroom ring the bells, the puppy will get it in no time.

@josecaal94 Hi, its bests to take them out first thing in the morning, after meals and generally every 3-4 hours. Also, watch out for tell tale signs of wanting to go, such as squatting or sniffing around more than usual and circling. There will be a few accidents, but When they do go outside, make a big fuss and praise them. They'll soon learn. Hope this helps!

i have a chihauhua and yes you should wait at least 2-3 hours and also your puppy should send you a signal. you'll know after maybe a few weeks/months of training them because then the puppy will know where to go when he/she has to go do their buisness... :) my chihauhua will wait at the door until one the family members goes to open it up to let her out.
