Mela Lee(Rena) was great, but it was mostly the laugh that make people hate her performance. But when she has to scream at Keiichi, like in this scene, she does it very well.
@SaskunaUchiha Stop pretending like you actually understand Japanese. If you honestly think all dubs must be translated literally, then you have absolutely no understanding of what makes a dub fail.
@SaskunaUchiha Lawl. Knowing a few choice words in Japanese doesn't make you some kind of expert on dubbed anime, sorry to be the one to tell you. If you had it your way, dubbed anime would make no sense whatsoever. If you understood Japanese syntax, you'd understand that translating it literally would make a translation suffer.
@igozuvi I never said I was an expert on Japanese. Actually if anime was dubbed rightly, some parts would miss some important sentence parts but I'd like it that way. Bad thought our not, IT'S MY OPINION. IT DOESN'T NEED TO MATCH YOUR THOUGHTS. AND I'M NOT GOING TO RESPOND ANYMORE 'CAUSE I DON'T WANT TO WASTE MY TIME FIGHTING OVER MY 'bad opinion.' さようなら、迷惑な馬鹿!
@SaskunaUchiha I never said you were an expert on Japanese either, that's plainly obvious from your classic weeaboo ideals on Japanese translations (not to mention you spelled usotsuki wrong). You think because you know the subtle difference being "that's a lie" and "liar" makes you some kind of expert on how dubs should be made. That's so cute and hilarious. "It's my opinion" is not some magical phrase that protects you from being objectively wrong. But I'm glad you know your opinion is bad. :)
@igozuvi Anyway, it takes time to learn a country's culture. It's impossible to learn it that quick through anime, that doesn't cut it. I am intrested in Japanese culture. Been so for a long time, I can't wait to get started learning the language and then building up to learn it all day by day. Even though I understand what a weeaboo is, I figured its because people don't know a thing about it and yet they assume they do. You have to back it up before you start griping about it.
@leon4000 Not really sure who/what you're referring to here; I wasn't griping about the translation at all (only griping about the person griping about the translation). Having an interest in Japanese language/culture doesn't make you a weeaboo, but picking up generic definitions of Japanese phrases and acting like you have a better idea on how to translate anime than actual professionals pretty much makes you one. As a Japanese person it's particularly annoying.
@girlgarde Ever get the feeling that had Rena been the one to go crazy her torture scenes may have been someone more interesting than flat out horror.
@jackie901 Yeah. She would have likely talked softly and tenderly while slowly torturing someone with the odd outburst here and there to play with her victim's head. I could easily see her doing that to Satoko's evil uncle or that slutty woman Rina as she killed them both in the 1st season. If it were one of her friends like Keichi, they'd likely be able to persuade her to stop and she'd regain her sanity.
@crypto66 I think that she'd be like that if she tortured someone because she acted that way in Keichi's delusions like in this very scene. It DOES sound like a kinky fantasy that someone who was a masochist would dream of, heh heh.
OH crap! I saw Her face and Now I can't sleep T-T

I wasn't too keen on the English dub until she screamed "Liar". She caught me right there. Brilliant voice acting <3

@Leiriko
I agree, this dub can be pretty underrated.

.....This dialogue is so repetitive and awful. I don't think you can blame the actors, the script-writer should have varied it a bit more. :/

The English voices sound like fandubs and make me want to puke. Sorry to be that girl that says it...

They seriously say the word "lying" like fifteen times in this clip

The "USODA!" was bette rthen the "LIAR" just saying

Sadly this is a poor translation... Rena said usoda, lie as an interjection. In this, it's liar. A liar is a usotski in Japanese. Dub fail...

@igozuvi Actually, I DO know some Japanese. I'm just saying my opinion. Hate it all you want, I just believe it should be translated directly.

Looks like Rena's quite sharp despite her shyness. She took Keichi's accusation and turned it back onto him in no time flat!
I also found her "YOU'RE LYING!" outburst to be scary but badass! It'd likely scare a lot of people into backing off and apologizing!
