FT is a massive new hidden tax, which they hide in the fine print. Not only is it hidden -- its absurd nonsense, which is WHY they hid it to be begin with.

Fairtax fine print has ALL cities, counties, and states, even the fed government, paying massive taxes.

Where will they get the money - magic?

Interesting -- what's your opinion of the Fairtax -- and if you support it, did you know it puts the world's highest sales tax on all city and state spending? All government enties of all kinds, would suddenlly have to pay this tax.

How would they pay for this tax?

More important - why doesn't Fairtax tell state and local governments up fron they would have to pay this?

They sorta hide that fact. I wonder why?

Who's plan is this? Im in favor of taxing all income the way we tax work, the self employed, the small businessman. Why should work be punished? Why should I invest in 400K in my education (say as a surgeon) or a million in my business, then pay very high taxes on my income? Someone else invest 400K in stocks, and pays far less tax than I do. Why? Why is my investment punished? Just tax all income alike, and let the market work.

Taxes on business, capital (which includes land) or income are totally anti-American. They do nothing but give Congress carte blanche on the people's wealth. As long as our elected leaders can take whatever they want from us without our permission or approval, they have no incentive to respect our rights or consider our best interests, but have every incentive and opportunity to exploit us for their own interests.

The "fair tax" would really hurt Texans who already pay 8% state and local sales tax. So that would bring my sales tax to 31%. No thanks!

The fair tax only applies to federal taxes.

15% income taxes + 6% payroll taxes + 20% hidden taxes (corp, and capital gains taxes) means you're actually paying about 41%.

The Fair tax would replace all that with a 31% sales tax.

Second, since you brought it up. I would rather brave the thought of a terrorist attack over allowing the republic of America to be lost forever. It's time to change our forign and monitary policy. Ron Paul is mentioned in the comment below mine, he is not what this country needs. Are you saying you would rather put your and others life in jeopardy here on US soil than somewhere else? The FAIR TAX eliminates the IRS and prevents the tax on your income. The Income tax is then replaced with a 23% sales tax. Why not vote for Ron Paul, Ron PAUL WANTS TO REPLACE THE IRS WITH NOTHING. GO AHEAD DO YOUR RESEARCH.

As to this perticular bill... it may be a bad bill. But what can you expect from a comprimise betweet harf left Democrats and hard right Republican?

The only bad thing that would happen is that Tax lawyers would lose their jobs, IRS agents would be forced to hunt the tax evaders (determines by the social secutity numbers compared to the list od those I-9 forms and the tax cards), and H&R Block and friends would be out of business except for corporations.

I see nothing wrong with this and nothing like a scam... unlike the AMT and massive deductions that the government imposses.

Now place the tax rate at 10% or 15%, which is what the poor pay right now AND what the very rich pay right now, if they don't take any deductions. Only the middle clas and upper middle class would end up getting a lower tax rate... but have no deductions and end up paying the same or more (something Democrates want anyway). Now everybody is paying the same amount of their earnings, capital gains or whatever. That is fair and simple (can be filled out on a single 5"X8" card).

Okay, hate scientology if you want, but do the math... no cap on what can be taxed means the entire GNP is taxed and not only up to $200k. That's billions more money that the government doesn't need. Get rid of special tax deductions for special interests and that's 100s of millions more. Now you can do away with the alternative minimum tax, giving the middle class a break, if you ever allow tax deductioions again.

The "Fair Tax" idea is a scam created by the Church of Scientology because they were at war with the IRS for not granting their cult tax exempt status. Google up the facts if you want to read more. OpinionJournal has a recent article that exposes the whole thing.
