I wouldn't say that knowing them both makes me more of a fan, but enjoying two bands/artists inside the same genre, who plays a lot with each other does.

I own all of The White Stripes and The Kills cds. They're too different to compare. I really didn't like The Dead Weather at all personally, because it seemed to me that there weren't any good riffs (perhaps their guitarist is a backup guitarist for a reason?)
