  • as soon as I heard the word einstein I stopped weatching

  • Only reason ancient civilizations thought the earth was flat is because they didn't explore any distance from where they lived so all they could do was think it was flat...

  • What your saying makes sense, guys come on he's not saying he thinks the earth is flat, he's just trying to rationalize why people used to think this, stop hating and open your minds!

  • @WMcalMW *you're

  • I don't see how flat earth belief can be sophisticated for any age. Anyone who climbs a mountain will see that Earth is locally flat, what they should see as well is that there is an horizon which implies that Earth is not globally flat. Theories of a spherical earth dates back to the 6th century BC.

  • 1. They thought it was flat because they where on the ground,,,

    2. Then man invented a ship that could go around the world...

    3. Some Idiots still believe the earth is flat...

    4. Man invents the plane and flies around the world blantantly obvious that its a globe.

    5. A few retarded Idiots still believe the earth is flat.

    6. We go into space and to the moon.

    7. A very ew retarded Idiots still believe the earth is flat.

Slowly where starting to win, someone buy them a plane ticket!

  • why do people think the earth is round?? the bible says the edge of the earth .there is no edge on round ball and they think that they will fall of the flat earth but what about the ice walls that no one can get over? the earth is flat! it is a flat disk

  • @Ggiven2001 "the edge of the earth" Are you a fcking retard? Why in the world would that statement be taken literally? Just like anyone says, IM GOING TO RUN TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH" (its ends, not edge)

Also, in Isaiah and Ezekiel, it says THE CIRCULAR OF THE EARTH

  • @Ggiven2001 *facepalm*. No, the Earth is round. Think about it: when you look out across the sea, do you see how it dips at the horizon? THAT MEANS THAT IT IS ROUND!

  • @Ggiven2001 then explain how i fly from ny and dont stop untill i return to ny? or how about the Coriolis effect or circumnavigating the globe?

  • @Ggiven2001 god know's the world is round, he doesn't want you to be a fundamentalist that takes the whole bible literally. maybe god doesn't really think that, but the bible was written by imperfect men, not by god himself. the earth is round. you're not going to fall off the earth if it was round. in fact you are falling onto the earth. if the earth was flat and you got over the edge by drilling through it or flying over, why would you fall if there is no gravity? why does the earth not fall?

  • @Ggiven2001 @Ggiven2001 god know's the world is round, he doesn't want you to be a fundamentalist that takes the whole bible literally. maybe god doesn't really think that, but the bible was written by imperfect men, not by god himself. the earth is round. you're not going to fall off the earth if it was round. you're falling onto the earth. if the earth was flat and you got over the edge, why would you fall if there is no gravity? why does the earth not fall?

  • I don't qualify the perception of a flat earth as particularly brilliant. Go to the peak of a mountain. Look in all directions. Flat. Of course, we now know that this idea misses the big picture. It's not a stupid idea, but it's not an epiphany insight either.

  • Your voice is so annoying I want to kill you one thousand times.

  • Guys, guys, guys... It frustrates me so much that not many of you realise this very SIMPLE fact. Go and look at an Orange, notice how it is ROUND. It is not 2D, notice that too? Therefore a 3D object cannot exist on a flat basis. It's common sense guys. Yet as Voltaire once said, "common sense is not so common." Sigh.

  • @ACPerformances When they say the earth is flat, they dont mean it's exactly like a disk, just imagine those floating islands in cartoons, grass and trees on top, dirt and rocks forming the uneven bottom. While oranges, apples and other fruits are round, insects and vegetation can often be in weird flat shapes. 2D and being flat is two different things. I'm not saying the theory is right, just that oranges being round has nothing to do with the earth being flat or not.

  • @RiJMC17 - The Earth isn't flat, it makes no sense what you say, I think you'll find 2D is flat.

  • @RiJMC17 Search 2D objects, and go to converting 2D object to 3D.

  • I don't think many educated, logical people think ancient or primitive peoples were dumb. Haven't Humans have had pretty much their present intelligence for about 100,000 years? We just have access to better information.

  • If you were to look at the scientific data, you would surely change your mind. Are you afraid to look at it, or what?

  • @flatterearth I am not afraid of the truth. I am not interested in the fairy tales you regard as reality. Believe it, don't believe it, it is your life. Perhaps you should examine why you feel the need to believe something that is not accepted by nearly all well educated people. Are they all in on the conspiracy? Are they all missing what you so clearly accept as reality? Maybe you should question your own desire to believe things that seem to have been proven false. Everyone is not in on it.

  • @subsystems I believe it because of the evidence. I do not need the rest of the world to dictate to me something that which is not only not proven, but ridiculous. People miss out because they imbibe doctrines they are otherwise unable to explain away. Like the ridiculous notion that astronauts flew off the globe that is supposedly going 67,000 mph around the sun, land on the moon, then in a few days, catch back up to the earth millions of miles down the "road". That is ridiculous.

  • @flatterearth OK you've convinced me through pure persuasion and only anecdotal heresay. But you are wrong about the Earth traveling at 67,000 mph around the Sun. The Sun, Moon, Planets and Stars orbit the Earth. The Earth is a flat disk world sitting atop four giant elephants standing on the back of a giant turtle named Attune. Everyone knows giant turtles can't crawl that fast.

I saw The Colour of Magic, that shit is real!!!

  • @subsystems I knew it was fear. It always is.

  • @flatterearth That comment was meant to you, not me. I replied accidentally to myself and can't delete it once posted. I was being courteous to not repost it saying the same thing.

  • @flatterearth Zetetic Part 1

I DID read Zetetic Astronomy right now (the original version on google books) - just to do you a favour...

I started at Page 63 and had a good laugh as early as page 65, where this guy turned out to be a complete moron that hasn´t got the slightest cue of physics. He doesn´t even know that a ball (like in his example) is forming a parabola and not a diagonal straight line.

But the best part is at page 65: “…,when it will begin to fall by the force of gratity ONLY.”

  • @flatterearth Zetetic Part 2

Such a dumbass! The horizontal force is still acting, so the ball WILL fall back to where it started - in a parabolic curve btw. (seen from his point in rest). Since the time of Galilei this has been proven a million times by thousands of people and you can prove it for yourself easily. And you – definitely being the biggest retard I´ve ever seen in my lifetime – might really feel the need to test that for yourself?! Test a fact that every CHILD... ctd. in Pt.3

  • @flatterearth Zetetic Part 3

knows just by it`s own observations!! But there really is no need to BELIEVE anything! Just test it yourself (if you really have to), and you will see the Zetetic guy is of course wrong!

The point is: all his following arguments are based on this fallacy and thus of course leads to wrong coclusions. For example p. 68:

The observation that a projectile shot straight up DOES fall back to where it started, DOES IN NO WAY prove that the earth is standing still. ctd.

  • @flatterearth Zetetic Part 4

This assumption is based on the intitial fallacy on page 65.

I could continue and write hundreds of pages here full with provable arguments, just trying to make you understand - but as I stated months earlier: If you were able and/or willing to understand such simple facts, you would have already - long before. So I merely feel like talking to a piece of rotten cheese – but even that might be smarter than you!

So how about the 10,000 USD bet, you silly coward?

  • @flatterearth Bedford Level (Pt. 1)

Starting from the beginning: page 11

Zetetic Astronomy is published under the pseudonym “Parallax”. Why a pseudonym? Because behind it hides no one else than Samuel Birley Rowbotham. This is the guy who made the first Old Bedford Level experiment that he describes on page 11, and from which he drew the conclusion that the earth was flat. What he DOES NOT say is that Alfred Russel Wallace repeated the experiment in a more ... (ctd. Pt. 2)

  • @flatterearth Bedford Level (Pt. 2)

precise manner and even won a bet about it against John Hampden (a supporter of Rowbotham), as the referee decided that it showed that the water surface was indeed convex! Rowbotham was being laughed at in all the newspapers of that time – THAT`s the reason for the pseudonym!

“Wallace, who had been unaware of Rowbotham's earlier experiments,.. (ctd. Bedford Level, Pt 3)

  • @flatterearth Bedford Level (Pt. 3)

.... was criticized by his peers for "his 'injudicious' involvement in a bet to 'decide' THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL AND ESTABLISHED OF SCIENTIFIC FACTS".”( Wikipedia, Beford Level experiment).

  • @flatterearth fear of what? fear of your disproved theory? we think not.

  • @flatterearth you do realize if you go into space, you are also moving the same speed as earth? the earth won't leave you behind because of gravity AND there is no wind in space to stop your momentum. it's silly that people like you believe there is a notion of "down" in the universe. and the reason for gravity is that the earth is moving up. there is evidence all aROUND you that suggests that the earth is round but you are too blind and closed minded to see it.

  • @flatterearth Lets for a moment say that I go spend my time looking through the "scientific data" you are referring to. Let say I come to a different conclusion that you. Would you believe me? Would I be vindicated and you renounce your belief in the flat Earth? Even if I went through the data with a fine-toothed comb and did thousands of hours of work showing where they went wrong or how you misread their findings, would you give any validity to my efforts? No. That is why I won't bother.

  • @subsystems You shouldn't be worried about what others believe. What you should worry about is that you aren't as smart as I think you are? What do I mean by that? That should scare the crap out of you. It means you should reexamine how you arrived at your beliefs. I know you have the ability to see the truth. What makes you avoid it by embracing something that is clearly false to nearly everyone? Who is afraid of reexamining their beliefs here?

  • @subsystems Assuredly, I am utterly reasonable. I used to believe as you do, but found VERY compelling evidence to the contrary. We only need discuss the outcome of your studies; and if the proofs are wrong or erroneous, you being reasonable in explaining how, I would believe. I'm not looking to hold out against the world if indeed the world be round. This is an uncomfortable thing to know.

  • @flatterearth Talking about scientific data? What a joke! Read this: (Part A)

Another argument from Zetetic (p. 81):

He correctly assumes that, if earth was a sphere, sun should “behave” the same way at the same latitudes, no matter northern or southern hemisphere. If this was not the case, this was proof for the sphere hypothesis to be wrong.

To examine the question he chooses an example (quote): “For instance in New Zealand, where the latitude is about the same as in England”. (ctd Pt. B)

  • @flatterearth Part B

To illustrate that sun behaves differently there he quotes some witness (p. 82-84) situated in AUCKLAND who reports that twilight there is much shorter than in England and days in summer are shorter by 1 hour.

Oh boy, what a swindler! The latitude of Auckland City is 36 ' 52, whereas London for example is at 51! Not to mention Newcastle upon Tyne (“England” too!), which is at 55! Now THAT´S what I call comparing pears and apples! Now can Z (the author) be... (ctd Pt. C)

  • Comment removed

  • @flatterearth Part C

Now can Z (the author) be so stupid not to realize that? I doubt it! The more I read on, the more I come to the conclusion that Z is a conman who intentionally tricks dumb people like you into believing he`s got valid arguments. Why would one want to do that? To desperately reestablish bible crap of course!

After that: how can you still think Z is at least a honorable man?

Next rebuttal to follow: Z`s argument starting at p. 69.

  • @flatterearth Rebuttal of Zetetic argument starting at p. 69 (Part I).

Please read the passage first! I`m talking about the experiment using the two parallel tubes.

Subargument a.) p. 70: “A distinct time will elapse between the signals given..” This is obvious NONSENSE! How could one decide using HUMANS who never have the same reaction time? If you use some apparatus instead there will be NO delay! Proven FACT!

Subargument b.) Z correctly states that 6 months later... (ctd Pt. II)

  • @flatterearth Rebuttal (Part II).

later both stars can be seen at the same place. From this he concludes erroneously that the earth doesn’t orbit the sun – or else the stars would appear at some other place.

At the end of the chapter he quotes THE official counterargument against his conclusion: The stars are too far away (“infinitely”) that the difference could show. He defies this argument by stating that the stars are by no means so far away (just 4000 miles). How does he know? > Pt. III

  • @flatterearth Rebuttal (Part III).

How does he know? By making calculations (p. 73) that are BASED ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE EARTH IS FLAT. So if this assumption is wrong, the calculations are wrong too. He is trying to prove something by assuming that it is true. In logic this is called “circular reasoning” (petitio principii, to be percise) which leads to logically unvalid statements, which already Aristotle knew. ..

Enough for now, dumbass! I need to work...

  • @flatterearth If you were right, the only thing you could possibly see, near the horizon, in all directions, is mountains. Mountains all over the Earth would always block your view of what is beyond. Yet this doesn't happen. The problem is not that one can find a single explanation that is supported by some evidence, it is what explanation best supports ALL the evidence. A flat Earth doesn't explain far too much evidence that a spherical Earth does explain.

  • @subsystems Only where there's mountains would your vision be blocked. Like on the ocean. The record for seeing on the ocean is > 700 miles. Now how could that be if there is a curve?

  • @flatterearth The record visibility of over 700 miles was not recorded between 2 ships. It was between 2 U2 spy planes flying at over 80,000 feet each. The fact that this was the farthest they could see each other before the horizon blocked the view between them supports fully that the Earth's radius is approximately 4000 miles. Use the Pythagorean Theorem. a^2+b^2=c^2. a=700 miles/2 b=Earth radius c=Earths radius + 15.2 miles (80,000 feet). Solve for b. (350^2+15.2^2)/30.4=b b=4037miles.

  • @subsystems Who cares what the two points were, ships or not? If two points are visible at 700 miles, that means there is no curve. An easier formula for curvature of a 24,000 mile circumference ball is distance squared times 8 divided by 12, which gives a drop from point of reference of 1 mile per 90. No such curvature exists.

  • @flatterearth Who cares? If you don't care how the measurements were taken then your results are careless. It makes a difference that the 2 objects were at 80,000 feet altitude when making the measurement. 2 ships could not have done this 700 miles apart.

  • @flatterearth Your 1 mile per 90 miles is correct, however your method of determining if there is a curve or not is seriously flawed. I live in a relatively flat valley according to elevation maps. Several rivers flow from nearby mountain lakes to a bay in the middle of the valley. Water always flows downhill. When down the valley one can clearly see a pronounced hump at 30 to 50 miles. If the Earth was flat and the hump was the result of a hill, the rivers would not flow over it to the bay.

  • @subsystems What the heck is downhill on a globe? It isn't even possible. It would flow over a hill if the pressure and flow to the lower parts prevailed.

  • @flatterearth Oh please. Seriously? You honestly don't know what downhill is on a globe? Isn't possible? OK then.

You can't grasp the concept of a river flowing downhill on a curved Earth. Look, water flows from higher elevations to lower elevations globe or not. If the Earth were flat as you claim then a convex shape of the surface sufficiently large would create a rise in elevation. A river would pool before the rise and not flow over it. Since it does flow over it is still traveling downhill.

  • @subsystems You should read the books I provided in these posts in order to get the picture. Let me ask you, how does the surface of the water curve when water seeks its own level and is always flat?

  • @flatterearth It isn't flat. It only seems flat measured over short distances. It actually forms a curved surface roughly in the shape of a sphere with radius of approximately 4000 miles. It's elevation would be roughly the same but it is not flat.

  • @subsystems Every experiment with measurements of the ocean, all water for that matter, is utterly flat. A glass of water is flat on the surface. A backyard pool is flat. A lake is flat. The ocean is flat.

  • @flatterearth I misstated. The hump in the river would be half that and you'd have to correct for the 2 different elevations. But still the hump in the true shape of the river would be enormously larger than the simple change in elevation.

  • @flatterearth You can do an experiment. Get 3 boats and 3 equal length sticks. Mount reflective tape on 2 of the sticks along their length near one end. Position the boats in a line boat #2 0.625 miles away and #3 1.25 miles away. Place the tip of the sticks on the surface the water vertically reflective side upward aiming at the boat 1. Boat #1 attaches the laser to its stick top and points it at the top of #3's stick. Boat #2 will see the laser mark 6" from the tip. The lake isn't flat.

  • @subsystems All lakes are flat, except for wind waves and such, water seeks it's own level. Always. That is a scientific fact.

  • @flatterearth All lakes are not flat. It is not scientific fact. You are assuming without proof. Go test that assumption.

  • @flatterearth I don't care about the books. Lets look at your question.

"how does the surface of the water curve when water seeks its own level and is always flat?"

Your question presupposes 2 "facts". One is water seeks its own level. That is generally true on Earth. What about water being always flat? Is it? What shape is a water drop? What about a really large collection of liquid floating is space? Your question presupposes a false statement so your question cannot be answered.

  • @subsystems Water drops are different because of the smallness of them, the surface tension creates the droplet. All collective water is flat. Period. There are no exclusions when there is more than a few drops.

  • @flatterearth The problem with your conclusion is you presuppose the Earth is flat when devising your questions that need answering. Obviously something isn't curved if it is flat. Small drops of water are curved because surface tension forces it into that shape. Large bodies of water are effected by the angle that gravity is pulling on them. Once the angle is large enough to become significant water forms a shape that isn't flat.

  • @subsystems You presuppose that the earth is round. But without proof. You simply believe what you are told. If you read the books, you will also know.

  • @flatterearth I am not presupposing anything. The best way to determine which theory is right is to do some predictions of what you would see if each were true. Whichever theory supports the results of the test is a more accurate theory. That is science. What you are doing is not science it is simply believing what you have read in a book. If you wish you are free to believe false things. Believing something doesn't make it so and making a statement isn't proof.

  • @subsystems This has been done, but the facts have been suppressed. The only way to get to the bottom of it is to get the information. Not keep on repeating the same old song the modern scientists sing.

  • @flatterearth Look, science isn't suppressing anything. You are here discussing it openly. Yet you can't prove your case. Your methods are not grounded in science and that is why the theories are not accepted by the scientific community. But it really doesn't matter what you or I think. The Earth is going to do what it wants. We can observe it, measure it form theories about it. You think there is a conspiracy to hide the truth but you won't accept the truth and that is the real problem.

  • @subsystems Whatever you say. You refuse to look at the experiments and books provided, so you will never know.

  • @flatterearth So to prove yourself right or wrong you will need to measure something large enough with tools that will give you a true answer. My 3 boats on a lake experiment could prove you right or wrong about water being flat. Unless you devise a proper test nobody is going to be able to convince you of something you don't believe. I have done other tests to prove to myself that the Earth is roughly a sphere with a radius of about 4000 miles.

  • @subsystems This has been done and it has been proven, and suppressed that earth is flat.

  • @flatterearth Now, since the river is traveling over a curved surface downhill and the elevation hasn't changed by as much as the curvature, the only explanation is the Earth is curved. Example: You are upstream in the mountains at elevation 1000ft. You travel downstream 90 miles and the elevation is 100ft. The drop in elevation is 900ft. Yet between those 2 locations there is a hump in the river's path nearly a mile high. But the river was flowing downhill the entire time. The Earth is curved.

  • @subsystems Sorry, there are zero scientific proofs for round earth. but plenty of mumbo jumbo.

  • @flatterearth Unfortunately there is a lot of false psueo-scientific mumbo jumbo around. Science, mathematics and physics aren't valued while students are in school. They grow up and teach their children that it isn't important. Everything becomes an opinion with no methodology for determining the truth. Problem is humanity isn't making as much progress as it could otherwise. And it is all your fault. ;P

  • @subsystems This is relativity and it is mumbo jumbo. You cannot prove anything with this kind of "proof". It doesn't say anything.

  • @subsystems In fact, the visibility was measured from ship to shore in Japan.

  • @flatterearth Give a link to the data. I am not taking your word for it. There is countless examples of data to the contrary so you need to show the data in order to disprove the spherical Earth theory. Prove it! Make your case solid. So far you "claim" the Earth doesn't curve 1 mile for every 90 miles. You simply stated it doesn't happen. Prove it as well. I say it does. But your opinion is contrary to common scientific belief so you need to show how you arrived at your answer by measurement.

  • @flatterearth BTW radio waves commonly reflect off of the ionosphere extending the range far beyond the horizon. Ship to shore communications has been common for many decades using this reflection. However, this has not been done with visible light that doesn't reflect off the ionosphere.

  • You make a good point that these cultures can be considered smart for thinking the Earth was flat, it's still much more impressive to realize it's round.

  • It wasnt dumb ... in 2011 it is dumb

  • ok i get it that ancient societies where smart just by at least taking in consideration the shape of the planet, but what about modern day's FLAT EARTH SOCIETY? how the fuck are they supposed to be considered smart? specially when you see them cling so desperately to their beliefs even though proof is presented to them. The Flat earth society is filled with retarded people that should just be left alone, in hopes that they will disappear through extinction along with their idiotic way of life.

  • Round earth has never been proved. Globalist agenda forms your minds.

  • @flatterearth lol

  • @flatterearth Have you never heard of satellite imaging? Also IF the Earth was flat, how is it that you can see different parts of it at different times of day from outer space? Also there wouldn't be such major time zone changes. Example Australia is approximately 16 hours ahead of the United States.

  • @flamenjakey Of course there are time changes because the sun travels across the great earth plane and it takes time to get across.

  • @flatterearth Yet on the Flat Earth Society map everything is practically in the middle therefore having MINOR time zone changes not a 16 hour difference.

  • It wasn't until Magellan circumnavigated the earth that it was proved that the world was round, space exploration came 450 years later

  • @Axelv07 This is a fallacy. And a cover-up. Columbus swore to his dying day that the earth was flat. History has been revised for the modern man. Most people won't check, so they don't get to know. But all the information is there. There are several books on the subject from a century ago, that remain compelling to this day. One is Zetetic Cosmogony by Rectangle and Zetetic Astronomy Earth Not a Globe by Parallax. These books have more answers for anyone open to the truth.

  • OMG THE 2 TOP COMMENTS ARE RETARDED !!!

  • Ancient societies had no reason to suspect the earth was a ball so it's not a sign of intelligence that they believed it was flat.

  • @Spindry96 I agree. Adding further, they had no need or reason to question such things as the whether Sunrise or Sunset occurred at the same moment everywhere. It took days, weeks, months and even years to travel distances far enough to become important. However, railroads in the U.S. began to use telegraphs to report train arrival and departure schedules. It was soon after that time zones were established to "synchronize" schedules correctly. Before that ships needed to navigate accurately.

  • Hey people, be fair. He wasn't defending a flat Earth. I don't know what all the attack is about. This video was very novel, and it makes you think a little.

  • Comment removed

  • shut up canadian

  • "Who cares?" I was going to give you points for taking a primitive perspective as a positive view, until you came to that statement. Each civilization has to be examine d on their own merits based on their tech/social advancements. First Nation Australians crossed the ocean LONG before many dared to try, I doubt they didnt care.

  • First off let me clearly state that the earth is round, considering the overwhelming evidence which, coincidentally cost taxpayers worldwide trillions if not an immeasurable amount of money to prove. Being stubborn about it (yes you F.E.T.'s) won't benefit anyone and will only stunt the intellectual growth of youngsters actually naive enough to buy this theory. Having said that; your theory is not dumb or retarded or such. It is just INCORRECT in every way.

  • @EndOfMichiko Actually, there is zero evidence for round earth. All so-called evidence is manufactured as a smoke-screen. Not one of you has examined the alternative let alone the "evidence". Yet, many of you resort to name-calling-- a sure sign of the level of ignorance this lie has created. I learned the same things you all did. I believed them too. But I've looked further and found incredible resources and motives for those promoting the deception. Whatever you do, don't check it out.

  • @flatterearth According to you, almost every mathematician, scientist, and general public person accepts a theory that has absolutely no evidence.

  • I am member of the Flat Earth Society, and can tell you for sure that the Earth is flat. We made many experiments and the conclusions prove, without any doubt, that the earth is a flat disc.

Unfortunately, many naive people still believe in the fake pictures and videos posted by NASA.

  • @thadeum1 (Assuming you live in the USA) Have you ever been on a plane before? Why not take a flight to Australia. Taking the layout of a standard world map into account (North America on the top left, Australia on the bottom right) If the Earth was flat, the plane would fall off the edge of the world and end up floating in space. I know the Earth is round, because I remember when I went to LA back in 2003, I was flown right over the Pacific Ocean and I ended up landing at LAX, not planet Venus.

  • @thadeum1 If the Earth is flat, how you can explain lunar eclipse? Oh yes! It must be some kind of fake.

Is "Flat Earth society" some stupid recession? Or are you people really brainless?

  • There are edges of a mountain and edges of a plain and edges of the Earth. They obviously didn't believe in a "flat Earth" in the simplistic way many today describe. Whether or not they thought there could be a point we'd fall off is up for debate. I've heard of ships sinking in water as if there was no buoyancy. Some ships just never came back for whatever reason

  • Killing or kidnapping ALL the people finding the edge of the world must be really hard and demanding work.

  • 1. go to walmart

    2. buy a $100 telescope

    3. set it up in your back yard

    4. look for mars

    5. realize you're an idiot for thinking every planet is round but earth

  • its all a lie....noone EVER thought the earth was flat!!! you were told that crap to dumb you down.....5,000 years ago the sumerians had pictures of the round planets in stone the suns round the moons round.....the hindus new this 10,000 years ago.....this is stupid and why we cannot grow!

  • Iagree that at a given time the flat Earth idea wasn't dumb.

Once upon a time religion could have also been considered a starting point of science. Because for the first time people asked: why, how, from where?

But if new evidence presents itself one should take it into account and not stick their fingers in their ears and go: Lalalalalalacan'thearyoulalalalalalaburninhelllalalalala.

  • Although I see the narrator's point, in modern times with the advent of The Scientific Method, today Flat Earth proponents are seen as irrational because in order to continue to believe in a flat Earth they must dismiss volumes of evidence clearly revealing the Earth's approximate spherical shape. The Flat Earth believers are unwilling or unable to change their beliefs despite evidence demonstrating their error. Ancient civilizations are unfortunately mistakenly associated with this.

  • @subsystems We've been fed every ounce of information about science in the modern world. There are zero proofs for round earth. Only what NASA fish-eye lenses to us.

  • @flatterearth Not true. I have taken measurements myself from several locations on Earth and calculated its size. It is roughly a sphere of 8000 miles in diameter. NASA had nothing to do with my own measurements. If you do any traveling you could take the measurements yourself.

  • @subsystems I have measured. I have traveled. There is no evidence of a curve at all. Water is not curved, so the oceans are (besides waves) flat. I've been on the top of hills and mountains and there is no curvature whatsoever. The curve of a 8000 mi diameter ball would reveal itself about 1 mile decline for every 90 miles. No such curve exists.

  • @flatterearth If you say there is no evidence then you have not looked closely enough or at enough evidence. Take those 2 points on Earth 90 miles apart in a North South latitude difference and using an accurate sextant, measure the angle from the vertical to the Sun at the same time. I have done this measurement and found 1.3 degrees of difference between the 2 locations. As you go farther apart the angle increases by the amount expected.

  • @flatterearth So if the Earth is flat, what shape is its perimeter? How do you explain the timezones? How do you explain the rising and setting Sun, Moon, planets and stars? How do you explain the tides? How can a person travel around the world and arrive where they started and where is the circular path they followed? How can a satellite follow a curved path across the sky? How can a satellite remain at the same altitude without falling to the ground?

  • You can do a similar experiment on a smaller scale. Locate 2 points 1.25 miles apart at the same elevation. Mount a mirror absolutely vertical at one location. At the other location take a laser level and shine the beam at the mirror so that it bounces back toward the laser level. What you should find is the beam will hit a reflector about 2 feet above the laser level. The 2 locations have slightly different vertical angles causing the returning beam to take a slightly higher path.

  • Yeah you're a moron. A guy in like 500BC found out the dimensions the earth withing like 98% accuracy using nothing more than sticks and a tape measure.

  • It all depends on your frame of reference. Although I would agree that any inquisitiveness pursued would breed some progress. If they'd asked "why does the sky have different colours at different times" or "Why does the moon have phases" they'd have made a similar kind of progress.

  • ...and if you keep going out you see that the "disic" the earth is on canges its continents every now and then. So the others cant be seen!

    WTF?o_0

And only using anienct cultures to prove your theoy isnt good science. the video never mentions any science.

  • I dont get it. was he arguing that the earth is flat or round?

  • why does a boat dissapear under the horizon?

  • @gekkehobbykoe Boats do not disappear below the horizon, just to the unaided eye. Put binoculars up to your eyes and see the boat until it gets to small to make out.

  • Your argument is kinda weak, yes it was a sign of being intellectually curious and hence advance but that doesn't really distinguish it from other ideas such as diseases are caused by demons etc. It's a very simplistic view of things with much weight on easing the mind rather than puzzling it. The brightest people that ever lived never did went after easy to swallow answers.

  • @linkuei83 Sure they did. Even Einstein made up a constant so it would fit into his model. The world looks flat, and it's possible to make a mathematical model where a flat earth fits. The point he's making is that a society isn't backwards just because it thinks the earth is flat when it isn't. Ptolomeus' worldview is higly sophisticated and was an established fact for centuries, but it is nonetheless wrong.

  • If the earth is flat, please explain how you can get into a plane and fly from New York to China by going west or east.

  • @LukeRulez72 Did you watch the video, or are you just an idiot? He says that the earth is round. Of course it is. But he respects that people thinking that the earth is flat shows signs that they could think in a larger perspective than just their local area.

  • @LukeRulez72 Well, obviously, the north pole is in the center of the disc, so flying east or west is actually just flying in a circle. You just percieve it as a straight line because of your worldview. The evidence against a flat earth is more about the ability we have to measure the curvature (and of course photographs from space) than about west and east and all that.

  • @Erufailon42 This is a great observation except that there is no curvature. Curvature for a 24,000 mile ball demands that you drop 1 mile for every 90 miles you go. The earth does not do that anywhere.

  • @flatterearth sure it does. You can observe it from sea on a clear day. You will be able to see the top of tall buildings or mountains from a farther distance than you can see the lower part or smaller structures. You will also be able to see farther when you climb up in the mast. If you stand on a shore, the last thing you will be able to see is the mast on the ship. Even if you had a really powerful telescope, you would not be able to keep track of the rest of the ship. this is the curvature.

  • @Erufailon42 There is an even easier way. Take a photograph from the shore of any ocean of the horizon where the ocean meets the sky. Make sure the horizon runs completely across the field of view. Now print a copy of the picture as large as you can. Take a metal edge ruler and lay it next to the horizon. It isn't straight and it isn't a lens distortion. If you do careful calculations you can determine roughly the Earth's diameter from a single photo.

  • @subsystems I've always imagined that would also be true for a flat earth though. If it was like a disc, wouldn't it appear to be curved?

  • @Erufailon42 There are many things that wouldn't be the same if the Earth was a flat disc. If the Earth were truly flat and there were no mountains or visual obstructions one could simply look in any direction and see the edge. Where exactly would the edge be and how far away? Simply adding mountains to this flat disk wouldn't change the fact that in all directions there would be an edge. But how would a satellite orbit a flat disk at the same altitude?

  • @subsystems Yes, I know, I've alluded to the edge thing earlier, and I hold no doubts that the earth is round. My question was wether we would percieve a curvature of the horison or not. If I was on a boat far from any land. Would the horison have a curve? And let's just assume for the sake of argument that our eyes wouldn't be able to see far enough for there to be any mountains on the horison.

  • @Erufailon42 Perception is strongly effected by one's beliefs. Detecting it with the unaided eye is more complicated. Of course the curve is still there. The closer to the water your eye is the more difficult it would be. Countless sailing ships sailed the oceans before the discovery that the Earth is a sphere. It wasn't noticed because people weren't looking. However, one could argue that they assumed there was a waterfall just over the horizon because they saw the curve without perceiving it..

  • @subsystems i think most sailors knew the earth was a sphere. At least in Europe. Not sure about the rest of the world though

  • @Erufailon42 Rather impossible at the moment to go back in time, like 1450AD or before and ask them. My understanding is, until it was proven, religious leaders had to accept it, it was considered heresy against the church. It wasn't until a while after the end of The Dark Ages that the use of science as a method of critical thought began to be widely and openly used. In fact, many early math and science texts were bleached and the paper reused for religious documents.

  • @subsystems Ah, allow me to tell you the good news that medieval Europe believed in a spherical Earth. I don't have the time to share any links at the moment, but I'd recommend looking up "flat earth myth" on wikipedia or something. They have some sources there that are worth checking out as well.

  • @Erufailon42 Ah, allow me to tell you that I am not that interested. Since the Earth has been proven spherical and all. The disturbing question is Why do some people continue to believe the Earth is flat? I often use the phrase "I see the Earth is still flat." to demonstrate how despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary some people continue to believe what has been proven to be false.

    Moving on.

  • @Erufailon42 Sorry, that was "once it was proven..."

  • @LukeRulez72 The earth is like a disk. It is easy to go around the world on a disk, too.

  • Yes, look at the oceans, THEY ARE FUCKING CURVED!

Flat earthers have poor observation skills and are closed minded and stupid.

  • Why this video is so dumb ?

  • @MrBrackdown Even better: Put them on a spaceshuttle or something like that, send them out in space and let them circle around the Earth. Then they will soon discover that while looking at the Pacific they´re are´nt really able to see the Atlantic.

  • guess they dont know what

    g=6.674×10−11 N m2 kg−2 is

  • First we have to look at the earth. The earth is sarounded by water and land at certain spots. Now when the people said the earth was flat, what they were talking about the planet or the land? There are two meanings of the word earth. Then you can't say what the other societies thought since we do not know. Man does have a lot of lies especially some races of people who are evil and want to control thee world.

  • I've never heard anyone claim that past civilisations were backward or stupid for thinking the earth was flat. Most people who understand that, with their given technology, such civilisations were within reason when they believed the earth was flat and may have come to and abrupt end. It simply demonstrates the evolution of our technology and knowledge. On this matter, that only way such civilisations were backward and barbaric was in persecuting people who contested the idea of a flat earth.

  • They thought it was flat AND ALSO that it ended, and that someone would fall off the edge if they ever reached the edge. They thought the world was flat because a curved Earth would mean you would tumble down its sides. They didn't understand gravity...they did understand the idea that if you don't have something under your feet you fall...no one has fallen who had something under their feet, so the world is flat.

  • good point

  • Pointless video. Welcome to the Internet, this-specific-pointless-video. Meet your peers - they are many.

  • It WAS a sophisticated thing to guess back then the shape of the earth; but now people that still believe, even when evidence shows the earth is round, that it's flat, THEY are dull and stupid.

  • You want at least 50% possibilities that it is round? Tell someone to craft a giant sphere and then bring their eyes to it WAY close at an edge; they should easily notice it to appear flat while it is in fact round. Also, wasn't the round-earth evidence proven via a guy somehow creating a reflection of earth's SHADOW or something???

  • you may be right,in your own way, but answer me this: way can't i see you, throw a powerfull scope,if the earth is flat....i'm living in europe,so,if you sey the earth is flat, then way the line of horizont dos/t allow me to see something far away?don't tell me that you are miles high or low from me...

  • You my sir are an idiot.

  • Well you know what I know... I know not to ever ever trust a white man because he will take everything you own and make a holiday... I bet the person who made this video is white... I believe the world is flat because this is something I wasnt taught in school. We all know if you dont know by now, that everything taught in school is something a small group of people voted on to be taught because they believed of thier opinion. Believe the white man no I wont But believe God I will. black is back

  • @tlrflyguy860 hmm... a racist on youtube... who would have guessed it?

  • @erin321321 Yep, you got it Im a racist because I mess people over and tell them what they wanna hear because they themselves dont wanna believe in God so I help them with lies and deception. I tell them something that makes sense and create a image and show them what I want to show them and they will believe every word I said because of the image. Then when I got them to believe I can embed it into their everyday life and sit back and watch the greatest show on earth. Modern day mind slavery.

  • @tlrflyguy860 i really hope for your sake that English is not your first language. although i would not be surprised considering that, once de-cyphered, your post has a rhetorical religious subtext and what appears to be 'unintentional' irony?

whatever the case or whatever your point and however cryptic and mysterious you think yourself to be, racist comments are not the way to go.

  • @erin321321 Lol I love it. I hope you got a chuckle out of what you posted just now because that is amazingly funny to me. Yeah your right, racism is not the way to go, but my belief in God begs me to differ. You see, it's a certain group of people in this world that has it out against God you know. But the true living God will deal with them completely as it is written. Oh and I am not a religious person at all. Its a difference between religion and the truth. I just pray you find it one day.

  • That is a very good point.

We need to learn from our mistakes not laugh at ideas that we don't understand yet.

A good example of that today is:

    1. creation or beginning of the universe

    2. the first single cell organism how did it start?

Two examples of things we know and understand but intentionally ignore and future generations will be laughing at us and rightfully so:

    1. we are in middle of the quaternary ice age

    2. CO2 is at the near lowest levels in all of earths history

  • And today some people still think the earth is flat......its not like a 5 year can figure out the earth is flat. Oh wait i did, thanks to the container ships coming into view over the horizon.

  • Actually most of the important civilizations had some inkling that the Earth was flat. In fact, Aristotle proved it in his time. Even in the Middle Ages no one in Europe or the Middle East actually believed the Earth was flat. Except vikings, but they were barely even literate.

  • the defects obviously dont 'even out', cuz if they did, then it would be flat. instead theres a slight more amount of 'negative' (downward) defects, for it to be a globe

  • Why such a low rating?

  • Saying the Earth is flat is like saying smoking is good for you, whitch is compleate BULLSHIT!!

  • sorry, but the idea in the modern state and age is simply pathetic

  • Please look at the Historical Society's top ten most falsely believed facts. Flat earth is one of them. With rare exception, folk have always known the earth was a sphere. Just sayn is all.

  • Twats, its HALO shaped.
