The F-22 is more maneuvrable, with a thrust to weight of 1.1 AND 2D thrust vectoring, while the JF-17 has a thrust/weight of 0.9 and no thrust vectoring.

@carknower But I think that they will be sold in the near future. By selling the F22 to allies the price will be significantly lowered because of the increase in production. US needs the F22 to be cheaper. Strenghtening the European allies is not a bad idea and most of them are looking to replace their F-16's, F-15's and Mirages in the next 10 years. They might go for the F35, but the F22 is much more a fighter, so a combination off f22's and f35's would be ideal for those countries.
Engineer force 3 billion dollars, research team 2 billion dollars, seeing all that hard work on the F22 being surpassed by the J20.................... Priceless

@rossusaf the f-22 is a STEALTH fighter it CANNOT be locked onto and is extremely hard to shootdown. It can also lock on to multiple planes at a time and shoot them all. Potentially, an F22 can destroy an entire country's air force.

They way it works is.... It can't be spotted on another fighter's radar until its about 15-20 miles away .... but it fires its missiles from high altitude at about 70 miles.
F-15 pilots in red flag exercises have mentioned that they can sometimes see with their own eyes, but the F-15's radar is unable to get a tone.
@filipinowhiteboy It can still be locked on to. The idea is that it never lets another plane get close enough to even lock on. As long as you have engines, you'll produce heat, which is what missiles lock on to.
It's an amazing plane and more maneuverable than anything yet BUT why do you need maneuverability when it's a fire and forget platform? There is no room for a gun, or extra air to air weaponry. So you can climb, turn on a dime and use thrust vectoring all you like, but it has zero applicability with this flying engine.

The one huge drawback which makes production on a large scale is obviously the very hefty price tag. Hopefully it will prove itself in combat where it's most needed and maybe divert other spending projects toward the F22's production. Impressive plane and it's definitely as ferocious as the F15 with a 21st century advantage.

Two sidewinders and 1x M61A2 cannon, mounted under a "flap" in the upper-right wing root.
Of course, with 6 AMRAAMs, emphasis is still on BVR.

The F-22's flyaway cost (~$150M) is currently about 50% above that of a late block F-15. Given the huge jump in air-to-air capabilities, I'd say the F-22's a bargain.
It has already proven itself time and again in exercises... And it continues to prove its value as a deterrent (too bad Obama and his cronies are too fucking stupid to realize that).
Also, keep in mind that USAF F-15's were in service for 15 years before they ever saw fired a shot in anger. F-22's have been in service for 6 years (since Dec. '05).

The USSR went bankrupt from outspending itself on it's military and we're about to do the same. Build 20 F-14's for the price of one F-22 and you'll still win the battle. Crash one F-22 and that's $150 Million which could have gone to better places. No enemy is worth being killed by a flying bar of gold ;)
Maybe if the USSR had managed to build QUALITY, reliable systems, they'd have had better success on the export market, like the US has.

@AngrySwampManStudios f35 is the Joint Strike Fighter, the ones that are built for the USMC can take of vertically, planned to replace the current Harrier. The USN and USAF F35's are built for runway as well.

It's amazing how the very first flight of the F-22 took place on 09/07/1997. The J-20 first flight took place on 01/11/2011 and the PAK FA first flight took place on 01/29/2010. The 13-14 year technology gap clearly shows how much further the USAF is when compared to China and Russia air force. I guess the $654 billion US defense budget helps out alot.
Please, enough of all this PAK FA talk. There is no factual measure of what that plain will be capable of once it is in production (if it makes it that far) and I haven't read or seen anything to make me believe that it's anything more than a further evolution of their SU-27 platform.

JF-17 Cruise Speed = Mach 0.9
F-22 Max Speed = Mach 2.4
F-22 Cruise Speed = Mach 1.7

@rossusaf the f-22 is a STEALTH fighter it CANNOT be locked onto and is extremely hard to shootdown. It can also lock on to multiple planes at a time and shoot them all. Potentially, an F22 can destroy an entire country's air force.

They way it works is.... It can't be spotted on another fighter's radar until its about 15-20 miles away .... but it fires its missiles from high altitude at about 70 miles.
F-15 pilots in red flag exercises have mentioned that they can sometimes see with their own eyes, but the F-15's radar is unable to get a tone.

@filipinowhiteboy It can still be locked on to. The idea is that it never lets another plane get close enough to even lock on. As long as you have engines, you'll produce heat, which is what missiles lock on to.

It's an amazing plane and more maneuverable than anything yet BUT why do you need maneuverability when it's a fire and forget platform? There is no room for a gun, or extra air to air weaponry. So you can climb, turn on a dime and use thrust vectoring all you like, but it has zero applicability with this flying engine.

Because even if 9/10 kills are BVR, that means 1 out of 10 times you're gonna have to get up close and personal with the other guy, especially if you run out of BVR range missiles... or the other guy also happens to be "stealth."

The one huge drawback which makes production on a large scale is obviously the very hefty price tag. Hopefully it will prove itself in combat where it's most needed and maybe divert other spending projects toward the F22's production. Impressive plane and it's definitely as ferocious as the F15 with a 21st century advantage.

Two sidewinders and 1x M61A2 cannon, mounted under a "flap" in the upper-right wing root.
Of course, with 6 AMRAAMs, emphasis is still on BVR.

The F-22's flyaway cost (~$150M) is currently about 50% above that of a late block F-15. Given the huge jump in air-to-air capabilities, I'd say the F-22's a bargain.

It has already proven itself time and again in exercises... And it continues to prove its value as a deterrent (too bad Obama and his cronies are too fucking stupid to realize that).
Also, keep in mind that USAF F-15's were in service for 15 years before they ever saw fired a shot in anger. F-22's have been in service for 6 years (since Dec. '05).

The USSR went bankrupt from outspending itself on it's military and we're about to do the same. Build 20 F-14's for the price of one F-22 and you'll still win the battle. Crash one F-22 and that's $150 Million which could have gone to better places. No enemy is worth being killed by a flying bar of gold ;)

Take a look at how much a Garmin GPS/COMM costs, or a Universal MFD, or a TAWS unit, or even an old school "steam gauge."

Again, in today's dollars, a modernized F-15 goes for roughly $100M... And one $150M F-22 can EASILY take out FOUR of them without any AWACS support. The F-22's survivability is also much better (stealth).

hellenic air force beated the agressors who were using f16+and f15. 16 planes of agressors(f16+15)were beated by 4 hellenic f16 to ratio 11:0.next day haf beated again the shit out of usaf with a ratio of 6:3.next time UNofficilay americans planed to use f22 against the hellenic f16.(we dont know how many f22's they used.maybe 1 maybe 4.but we definetely know that haf used only 1 f16).the outcome of that was the f16 to lock on the f22 from 6oclock position.americans were cold to haf after that

The F-22 is as good as it gets when it comes to jets. The human body cant handle better maneuverability or better speed.
I remember driving on the highway near the Miramar Air Base. I look up over the road and see this little black triangle just sitting there pointing straight up. Not going left or right or up or down. Just hovering. I thought it was a UFO. Then the pilot rolled onto one side and gunned it. If freaking took off. So rad.

It's amazing how the very first flight of the F-22 took place on 09/07/1997. The J-20 first flight took place on 01/11/2011 and the PAK FA first flight took place on 01/29/2010. The 13-14 year technology gap clearly shows how much further the USAF is when compared to China and Russia air force. I guess the $654 billion US defense budget helps out alot.

Just compared it with PAK FAt, watching videos after videos, clearly, the F22 can change and fly into a high alpha much faster and much cooler, its like you're thinking "Damn I thought that plane would rip apart", the engine of the F22 sounds and looks more powerful, it can turn much faster and tighter.. Man, anyone who ignores this are just plain stupid, or people who cant accept the fact that indeed the designers were correct that the F22 will be superior to all current and projected aircrafts
