Jean Shepard has always been the real thing. Never wore make up when she was young and only uses the lightest of it today. She and Kitty. So distinguished from the rest of the country music queens of modern times.
love it its one of my favioute hymns always sung it at sunday school on a sunday afternoon. when was this made as im sure thats Skeeter Davis behind her at 2.22 next to the man with glasses and white hair.
@holiday299 Yes, that is Skeeter Davis and the man with the white hair is the late great Hank Locklin. He played bars and honky tonks in the north Florida/south Alabama areas in the early 50's before establishing himself on the Grand Ol' Opry. He did duets with a number of female singers including Skeeter Davis and Loretta Lynn. He remained popular in Europe for decades!
That golden voice has not aged one little bit. She began as a great singer and remains a great singer. Her honesty and clear vision have distinguished her from the beginning. As a young girl singer she was darling and today she is still beautiful.
@waynebrasler Don't u think that along with Skeeter Davis, Jean and Dottie West should be in the Hall of Fame now. I call them about it n the lady i spoke to said she will bring it up but notsure that they will be nominated so i am trying to campaigne for these 3 ladies so will u join me please i can only do by fone as i live in jamaica
Jean is quite a lady, too. I love to hear her sing, her style and her way of keeping time behind her back. I babysat her boys years ago at the Grand Ole Opry, and now they are grown with families of their own. Jean is one of a kind.
All singers have a trademark gesture or way of delivering their music. Jean holds her hand behind her back and keeps time by opening and closing her hand as if she is squeezing a ball. If you look closely at every video of her posted you will see her doing this. She and I share the same birthday of November 21st.
Oh how sad this world is without ladies that sing like this. These women left this world way too soon but they made it a better place by being in it as long as they were. Just a beautiful voice.
I am slowly learning about early country music....she really stood out (for me) on this DVD series when they advertised it on television, so I started to look at more of her work....I really enjoy Jeannie
Jean Shepard truly is one of the Grand Ladies of Country Music. She and Kitty Wells have more class than all the other singers of today put together. What legends!
A perfect singer singing a perfect song that gave me what I needed this late night.
