David Thompson ranks right up there with Connie Hawkins, Pete Maravich and Dr. J as the most entertaining ballers of all time. Magic wasn't bad either.......
@apostolostv I agrre, maybe. If he played till about 1988 and was healthy and maybe got a ring, he would have been a top 5 guard at the time of his retirement.
In 1976, David Thompson lived near a friend of mine. My friend and I had lowered his basket to about 9' one day when David got home. We hollered and he actually came over. He could jump with the ball in the crook of his left elbow, do a 360, and slam it into the basket with the fist of his right hand. Easily.
to me the leap at :18 is the coolest in NBA history,David's leap just looks so profound, everyone can jump, and everyone can strum a guitar, but some do it like there's nothing to it,and so beautifully.
I was always so proud, the first car my mom was able to buy,it was used,a 1979 Monte Carlo, that David Thompson owned previously. In all these years, the coolest thing about the Nuggets was that David Thompson had played for them, wish he'd returned to run the team instead of the ones who did, nows good
Too bad Thompson threw it all away by becoming a coke head shortly after turning pro as we never got to see just how great his career might have been.
Yeah, it really is. He and Micheal Ray Richardson were casualties of the cocaine craze of the late '70s. Two great talents who tossed away more talent than most people ever have. The guys who truly become great, the Jabbars, Jordans and Olajuwons have a sense of discipline that keeps them away from that stuff.
Yup, people like Earl Manigault come to mind - if only they would have had the discipline and common sense to match their physical gifts. I hope anyone that has any talent out there reads this....
If you throw away your gift, you aren't just cheating yourself, you are cheating ALL of us from enjoying it - possibly millions of people.
YOU have an obligation to make the most of what you are given and not to get side-tracked with self-destructive behavior.
I have been in the gym business for more than 30 years, trained thousands of steroid-enhanced athletes, and have even taken the juice myself and here's what I can tell you for sure....
1) I have become pretty good at recognizing anabolic drug users just from their appearance
2) I saw no symptoms of steroid use in David Thompson such as muscle hypertrophy, swollen jaws, etc.
3) Steroids do NOT increase a person's vertical jump nor increase their skill with a basketball.

If only injuries and coke didn't grab a hold of him, he could've easily finished as one of the 2-3 greatest guards ever.

Where can I download this song? I want to listen to it when I hoop or work on my vertical leap. It's a match made in heaven.

He threw it all away? What are you freaks talking about? He's in the friggin HOF.
You know, where the BEST players go to be immortalized. Is that what we are calling failure now?
Stop being so dramatic, people love to act tragic. Its foolishness.
Also, the song in out of place entirely.
