She really does an excellent job performing this number with her arms tied to a pole the entire time. But I'm mystified by this movie, based on the clips I've seen on YouTube - if it's supposed to be taking place in the past (based on the costumes), how come they perform modern, westernized music?
She reminds of Giulietta Masina in Fellini's "La Strada".

eddie cantor did too back in the 30's with "roman scandals".
this movie looks adorable--i want to watch the whole thing!
