I was kicked out of UWP on opening night 1979 for simply questioning being gay. I was treated by management in a very harsh and hurtful way, both psychologically and emotionally. Was an extremely traumatic experience which took me years to silently recover from. They outed me to my parents (remember, I was only questioning) told them I was sick and that they knew of a hospital where I could get "treatment". I'd like to think that I do not, but I still hold some pain and sadness around the event.
It says alot about the caliber, scope and objectivity of the film producers that they would edit in footage of a guy making a poor word choice like 'fairy' to illustrate their point.
Who is this guy? I was in UWP in 1975-76. Being gay was not a problem in either the management or the rank and file.
Besides, we should just give a guy who uses the word "fairy" to describe gay people the same amount of credibility as a klansman who uses the word "ni--er" to describe a black person.
This film looks to be a hatchet job by someone with an agenda.
