I went to your site and looked at the picture, but I'm still not getting it. The ring furthest from the tip is ground. The 3rd ring is signal for mic.... I understand electret microphones require power from audio signals, but then it appears that your diagram shows that I should either ground the 3rd ring or use the tip for ground...

If it works when connected to the mic input of your PC, then it won't work with the ipod touch.

Yes, of course, just leave the earphone contacts unconnected.
