I am so glad you prefer your hair kinky. So many girls out there want to go natural so their hair can get long and then they can relax it and start the damage process all over again. smh
It's interesting though that the women ive come across who love my hair and want to grow theirs to my length only to straighten it never get to that length anyway because as soon as they get a little bit, they damage it with straightening and then complain their hair doesn't grow.
Your hair is very nice , but i can say that you do have a nice grade of hair and it seems to be mixed with some other race and maybe that contributes to you fast growth ..this is not facts just an opinion but i do love you hair ....
@TheMeka1997 Why do she have to be mixed in order to have healthy long hair? Her hair looks like regular kinky hair she just learned to take good care of it.
@TiffyBear Well i did say that it was an OPINION and not fact and i did say MAYBE it contributes toward the FAST growth.I have a neice thats mixed and her hair is kinky but it grows very fast because of her being mixed.I did say i loved her hair but it was just my opinion. In most cases mixed women has a faster growth than a African American Women But like i said no harm said or meant just a comment and opinion...
I have a similar length (maybe a bit longer) but my hair is so thin!! Is it possible for me to get thick hair? I'm just losing a lot of hair and I'm worried..
hmm do you have any split ends? The ends of your hair seem a bit more hollow than the rest. I might suffer from this too. If you do have them, do you think they are as big of a deal as people make them...as in cutting all of the hair?
@siinger1 I know I shouldn't be thinking this way, but I can't help it. To me it feels like just yesterday I was in middle school and looking forward to graduating from high school and going to college. But now that I'm a junior in college, I can't help but to wish that I was still back in the 7th grade. A time when life was so much simpler, and music didn't suck so badly.

1. Would you ever relax your hair? 2. It appears that you're within reach of your goal of waist length hair. Do you think it's possible for anyone who follows your strategy or fine tunes your method for themselves will be able to achieve the same/similar results as you?
Preserving hair is something as old as ancient times. As old as the Egyptian mummies. :o) So my answer is emphatically YES! Protecting one's hair through protective styling, minimal heat and gentle handling will result in retaining more hair (LONGER hair).
Yeah she does have nice arms I wish! Lol. It looks like she takes care of herself which is partially why she reached her goal so fast because it does have to do with health & diet. Keep it up! My hair is past my collar bone and has reached my back finally. Your videos really helps me. Thanks!
@kimmaytube i need ur help badlyyyyyy..iam a new natural and for the 1st time recently i flat ironed my haIr..it didnt come out the way i thought..and to make it worse..as soon as i left out to take my son to school guess what...my hair actually puffed up and seemed like it was actually reverting back!!! is there any products tht i can use for this..PLEASE HELP ME ASAP...its really making me loose hope in my natural hair. :(
I can't find any videos on trimming your split ends. I typed in your search box and can't find them....hmmm, do you trim your hair? I am 1 1/2 years natural and afraid to trim...I also don't know how to...please help!!!
Kimmay, this site is amazing. I believe that you will meet each and every one of your goals. I've watched many others on youtube with gorgeous hair destroy it because they're restless and just focused on trying to look cute. Patience is a virtue. I plan to go through every video you've made as I big chopped 5 weeks ago and am on my way. I wish you much success. You deserve it.
I currently have long relaxed hair but also want to go natural and start over to grow my hair longer than what it is now. What are your tips in order to keep it healthy upon cutting it?

I love your hair! You inspired me to try the style of becoming natural since a year ago from today and never go back to perm/relaxers. Where did you get your black & gray shirt from? P.S What blow dryer and hair straight iron did you use? Also, good luck on your natural hair journey!
@blackkinu23 i flat ironed my hair two weeks ago and my hair reverted back perfectly. it depends on the Technic you use. Not endorse? .......seriously?
@MOJOBABYXO she is natural this is what happens when you go natural and stop killing your hair with perms. it grows long as hell like every other race and if you want it straight flat iron it. pretty simple eh?
I agree. If u want bone straight u run the risk of heat damage. But I noticed how ur hair was starting to puff during the vid. Our hair loves water and it seems as though urs sucked whatever was present in the air! good job!
Stunning. I love that you didn't go bone-straight - I hate flat, limp hair that's been straightened to death. The body and movement you got was gorgeous.
Also, thanks a lot for making your channel so easy to navigate around - I really appreciate it!!
I suppose I am just speaking of my experience. I had mine on a low heat and only did a top section because the rest was braided with extensions for my wedding hair. I now have the untouched parts curly as usual and the top section is permanently damaged (its been 1 month of washing and it won't curl). I will need to cut it and start over with that section only.
I really wanted to ask. After you get flat iron or get a blow out...How long does it take your hair to be all curly and obtain kroils again..and how? I really want to know^ ^ Help appreciated.
Your hair is very nice....but I'm interested in knowing what your workout/exercise routine is you have nice defined arms...like the 1st Lady's arm or better. I really enjoy working out so please share you workout routine. Would also like to know what you diet is like you appear to be very fit, thanks in advance
Thank you for so much sharing and info. Last year my hair only barely reached my chin flat ironed. I flat ironed my hair today and it is shoulder length! This may not be great growth to some, but I have suffered with seborreheic dermatitis for several years. I literally had clumps of hair falling out. It has stopped now thanks to following similar hair regimine of kimmaytube and other great youtubers. Peace & Blessings!
As long as you are responsible with your hair it will grow. Other ethnic groups' leg up of an extra cell's worth of growth is not what is going to be the determining factor of hair length, it will be how you protect your curly locks.
This is what causes the MOST significant difference in our ability to retain length. the hair growth itself requires a microscope to see the difference.
Now take a needle and a twisted paperclip. Drip oil down the needle, now do this to the twister paper clip. The oil will will travel easily down the needle but not the paperclip. Like straight hair patterns the ability of the oils to travel down the hair shaft without any outside effort makes their hair retain more length. AA women especially with tighter curl patterns have to physically put in the effort to moisturize, oil, etc to maintain length.
Decide to weigh in on the debate. First you have to define slow. Research does show that AA hair grows "slower" than other ethic groups at a rate of 100 micrometers. Look at your skin, can you see the an individual skin cell. No. You need a microscope. Well an average animal cell ranges between 10 and 100 micrometers. 100 micrometers adds up over time but for public knowledge the 1/2 inch is standard and even in med school they teach you the difference but the 1/2 inch is standard.
I don't know why people are pressing dislike. There's nothing to dislike about your videos. You share GREAT information and your hair is STUNNING! Keep up the great work and keep showin' em how to do it BIG!!! Much love!
I already said I KNOW black people can grow long hair. MY hair is long and it ain't permed. Next time, trying reading my comment well (or read a scientific paper or two) before cursing someone out. Take a biology class then you'd know that hair growth and rate are all determined genetically and not every person's hair grows the same. The amount of youtube "gurus" doesn't change that fact.
Believe whatever/whoever you want. It really doesn't bother me at this point.
@musiclover77able my comment wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular. I just want people who do make negative comments to be thoughtful about the power that words carry. We need to be our sister's/brother's keeper. We often times are so quick to judge without taking account the way it might effect others. Kim has a tough skin and can hold her own, I just can't understand what the negativity is all about. It seems quicker and easier to click on another channel if you don't like it.
I don't know how you deal with the negative comments on youtube. I can't believe that people would actually take time out of their busy schedule to write instead of just clicking on another channel. I hope that we can continue to uplift our people and acknowledge good work when we see. I have a hard time understanding haters in general. People of Color please stick together and stop fussing and fighting about things that are meaningless. Kim, keep up the good work, I'll see you on tv :)
You're putting words in my mouth. I said ON AVERAGE black hair grows slowly compared to other ethnicities. I never said our hair doesn't grow. I happen to be a research chemist, so please don't tell me I need to be educated. These are the findings of in vitro studies. Why do you think we, Indians and Asians generally have brown/black hair and brown eyes? It's because of 'ethnic' genes.
People with long locs have them because their hair grew and they maintained the length.
On average, AA hair does grow slowly. That's not hype, it's scientific fact; just like how our skin ages slowly. I know our hair can grow quickly. Mine does. But this doesn't refute research.
@lavinder11 there is no such thing as "black hair" thats the first stereotype that you have to let go. genes may determine the quality of hair but race does not determine the rate of hair growth. my sisters and i are all the same race and our hair grows at completely different rates and we all have different textures. sorry but your studies are incorrect.
Genes determine your physical appearance, that in conjunction to origin determines your race. You're correct on that one since there is no such thing as race, per se. I never said that people's hair do not grow at different rates. I said A-V-E-R-A-G-E. I've already said my hair grows quickly. And yes, your genes do determine your growth rate (and sometimes change in rate with hair growth).
It's funny that people don't distinguish literature research from experimental research.
I really need to get serious about my hair my goal is to be 100% natural bsl right now im transitioning longterm but im not doing as much as i know i need to. I knoow i need to cut my see through split ends but im ascaarreedd lol it was close to apl! But someone told me i cant count jacked up ends so *sigh* chop chop i guess :( btw your hair is beautiful and its definately an inspiration!
Thank you for sharing your hair journey with the world and showing the many ignorant people that our (African Americans) hair does grow if taken care of and stopping the use of chemicals . I appreciate what you stand for and why you took this journey. You are a gorgeous, intelligent woman and I enjoy all of your videos.
@tyyahitsmel I don't believe so. It is simply that the chemicals from the treatments tend to damage the hair, making it more susceptible to breakage, split ends, and other issues. If you have your hair relaxed, and it is done the proper way to minimize damage (cause anything you do to your hair can damage it), then following these steps to manage your hair on a regular can lead to retained length. As you well know, your hair grows regardless. It's the ends that you have to preserve .
@Ckatz410 I'm guessing it will be about 4/5 years to get to this hair length. It doesn't take 10 years for you to be able to grow your hair out this long (Like someone else said).
wow that's awesome!! Randomly I just finished flat ironing my hair for the first time since I've been natural (2 years) and i happened to see that video! what a coincidence lol. It looks very nice! but I think in the end I like your curly hair better :) thanks for being such an inspiration and great learning tool for all the naturals out there! be blessed :)

Hello Kim. I love your videos, you are awesome, and so informative.I have learne so much about my hair from you. I really like the music on this video could you please share with us the name of the artist so that I can purchase this song for my ipod, it sounds like a great song to exercise to. PLEASE PLEASE Can I know the artist??? Thanks.
You have made natural hair beautiful. Thanks. I went natural 8 years ago. I kept cutting it because I was loving it really short because my hair was always shoulder length when I had the dreaded perms. Now because of my sister, I am going to let it grow out and see how long it can really get. Thanks for all your helpful videos!!!!!
I am so glad you prefer your hair kinky. So many girls out there want to go natural so their hair can get long and then they can relax it and start the damage process all over again. smh

I love your hair! You inspired me to try the style of becoming natural since a year ago from today and never go back to perm/relaxers. Where did you get your black & gray shirt from? P.S What blow dryer and hair straight iron did you use? Also, good luck on your natural hair journey!

@MOJOBABYXO sheck her hair journey part one, trust me, she is not mixed with anything
anewmeePassion 11 months ago
@MOJOBABYXO she is natural this is what happens when you go natural and stop killing your hair with perms. it grows long as hell like every other race and if you want it straight flat iron it. pretty simple eh?
AyPeeElTee 11 months ago
@AyPeeElTee But I've been natural all my life and my hair ain't like that haha was just curios because alot of Americans are mixed :)
MOJOBABYXO 11 months ago
@MOJOBABYXO Not true Mixed race does not mean non -nappy hair. I have seen women from West africa with long healthy hair.

I agree. If u want bone straight u run the risk of heat damage. But I noticed how ur hair was starting to puff during the vid. Our hair loves water and it seems as though urs sucked whatever was present in the air! good job!
alexlove31 11 months ago
Stunning. I love that you didn't go bone-straight - I hate flat, limp hair that's been straightened to death. The body and movement you got was gorgeous.
Also, thanks a lot for making your channel so easy to navigate around - I really appreciate it!!

@snappynappy87

Did you ever trim your ends prior to flat ironing your hair? If so how often?
Do you have any broken hairs at all?
Great video!!!

Would also like to know what you diet is like you appear to be very fit, thanks in advance
msbarb1 11 months ago
Thank you for so much sharing and info. Last year my hair only barely reached my chin flat ironed. I flat ironed my hair today and it is shoulder length! This may not be great growth to some, but I have suffered with seborreheic dermatitis for several years. I literally had clumps of hair falling out. It has stopped now thanks to following similar hair regimine of kimmaytube and other great youtubers. Peace & Blessings!
Ravenpriestess 11 months ago
As long as you are responsible with your hair it will grow. Other ethnic groups' leg up of an extra cell's worth of growth is not what is going to be the determining factor of hair length, it will be how you protect your curly locks.
19thecookiemonster86 11 months ago
This is what causes the MOST significant difference in our ability to retain length. the hair growth itself requires a microscope to see the difference.
19thecookiemonster86 11 months ago
Now take a needle and a twisted paperclip. Drip oil down the needle, now do this to the twister paper clip. The oil will will travel easily down the needle but not the paperclip. Like straight hair patterns the ability of the oils to travel down the hair shaft without any outside effort makes their hair retain more length. AA women especially with tighter curl patterns have to physically put in the effort to moisturize, oil, etc to maintain length.
19thecookiemonster86 11 months ago
Decide to weigh in on the debate. First you have to define slow. Research does show that AA hair grows "slower" than other ethic groups at a rate of 100 micrometers. Look at your skin, can you see the an individual skin cell. No. You need a microscope. Well an average animal cell ranges between 10 and 100 micrometers. 100 micrometers adds up over time but for public knowledge the 1/2 inch is standard and even in med school they teach you the difference but the 1/2 inch is standard.

@musiclover77able That's a shame then...because pressing dislike will NOT make a hater's hair grow any faster :-) I'm just sayin' lol

TASHIAWATKINS 11 months ago
I don't know why people are pressing dislike. There's nothing to dislike about your videos. You share GREAT information and your hair is STUNNING! Keep up the great work and keep showin' em how to do it BIG!!! Much love!
mylaylay18 11 months ago
@musiclover77able
It really doesn't bother me at this point.
lavinder11 11 months ago
@musiclover77able my comment wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular. I just want people who do make negative comments to be thoughtful about the power that words carry. We need to be our sister's/brother's keeper. We often times are so quick to judge without taking account the way it might effect others. Kim has a tough skin and can hold her own, I just can't understand what the negativity is all about. It seems quicker and easier to click on another channel if you don't like it.
qmistic 11 months ago
I don't know how you deal with the negative comments on youtube. I can't believe that people would actually take time out of their busy schedule to write instead of just clicking on another channel. I hope that we can continue to uplift our people and acknowledge good work when we see. I have a hard time understanding haters in general. People of Color please stick together and stop fussing and fighting about things that are meaningless. Kim, keep up the good work, I'll see you on tv :)
qmistic 11 months ago
@musiclover77able
People with long locs have them because their hair grew and they maintained the length.
lavinder11 11 months ago
@musiclover77able
On average, AA hair does grow slowly. That's not hype, it's scientific fact; just like how our skin ages slowly. I know our hair can grow quickly. Mine does. But this doesn't refute research.
lavinder11 1 year ago
@lavinder11 there is no such thing as "black hair" thats the first stereotype that you have to let go. genes may determine the quality of hair but race does not determine the rate of hair growth. my sisters and i are all the same race and our hair grows at completely different rates and we all have different textures. sorry but your studies are incorrect.
wendymillerful 11 months ago
@wendymillerful
It's funny that people don't distinguish literature research from experimental research.
lavinder11 11 months ago
@musiclover77able
Well, technically, it does. Our hair grows the slowest and our skin has the slowest aging process.

so are you saying If you have relaxed hair it won't grow this way ? Or can i grow my hair like this with a relaxer if i keep it up?
tyyahitsmel 1 year ago
@tyyahitsmel I don't believe so. It is simply that the chemicals from the treatments tend to damage the hair, making it more susceptible to breakage, split ends, and other issues. If you have your hair relaxed, and it is done the proper way to minimize damage (cause anything you do to your hair can damage it), then following these steps to manage your hair on a regular can lead to retained length. As you well know, your hair grows regardless. It's the ends that you have to preserve .

SO EXACTLY HOW MANY YEARS DID IT TAKE FOR YOUR HAIR TO REACH THIS LENGTH SINCE YOU'VE BEEN NATURAL?
Ckatz410 1 year ago
@Ckatz410 I'm guessing it will be about 4/5 years to get to this hair length. It doesn't take 10 years for you to be able to grow your hair out this long (Like someone else said).
