  • i tried saying that, its taking forever cause i dont have a lisp. -___- so it sounds like im saying 'ack deaf hee jack over knot makes two exist' o-o

  • Lol some of you are losers.

'Oh him and Ernie played in the bathtub, thats so wrong, they're gay'.

Um no. How about the fact that his memories were supposed to be when he was a kid. Pretty sure most of you used to bathe with your friends or siblings.when you were kids.

  • JKLMNOP..LOL. anyone else notice?

  • lol in the begining it was missing a Z....

  • Not only does he have a very gay voice with a lisp, he also played with Ernie in the bath tub O__o

  • @AprilToniaRuiz well he did say it was "qr" ...

  • Wow...Big Bird had a lisp! LOL

  • 0:37 - 0:48 maybe that line should not have been done in here. Just imagine...

  • It gets QR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HA HA HA! He used to play with Bernie in the bathtub!!!

  • I never notice that big bird only used one hand all the time, untill i got older.

  • i gate big bird =D! it looks funny =D!

  • big bird looks kinda like a pedophile at the beginning of the video..

  • cookie monster is on meth,

    elmo is a homo,

burt & ernie are obviously in love (fags),

    count is a pimp,

and Big Bird is a Complete Badass!!!

  • @richyBMXs247 I agree with you, Big Bird is the best :)

  • Y ISN'T THIS ON I-TUNES!!!!!!

  • The ABC ribbon is missing Z...

  • In the middle it gets awful queer to him.

  • At 1:43 & 2:46, the word gets awfully what?!?

  • @dp2famu He's pronouncing QR together, like, queer..but..QR..lol

  • Soo...Big bird used to play with Ernie in his bathtub....hunh... XDD

  • Cute, but not the original is better.

  • This is better than the nonsense word Mary Poppins invented.

  • I am glad Bird did this remake, honestly. Not because I disliked the original. Far from it. But because ELMO sang the song around the time of his debut & basically ripped off his old friend in doing so (stealing each other's themes is NOT cool). Thus, it was nice to have Bird take his theme back & then give Elmo a take of his own medicine by singing the future Elmo's World theme (then titled Elmo's Song) when Elmo first wrote it! XD

  • "ABCDEFGHI" aka The Alphabet aka The ABC's.

  • thumbs up if u think Michael Jackson is behind Bigbird's voice.

  • what is up with today's big bird! he looks so matted down and fake. this one still is actually believable, even after 20 + years!

  • Ugh- Sesame Street has changed so much. Go and watch it the next time it's on TV. You'll be surprised. It's sad:(

  • Thumbs up if u think Big Bird is trying to say "queer" when he says , "It gets awfully QR to me!"

    I laughed.. silly Big Bird!

  • abcdefghijklmopqrstuvwxyz should a word XD

  • I like old Big Bird better :/

  • abca-debi-gecal-manorro-stew-weicxez :D

  • silly kids held the banner backwards. Hey did you notice the Z fell off the , i'm just kidding guy. Thanks for the upload. That was fun.

  • @derman077 it does

and they thought we wouldn;y notice

  • Alright. Lots of people have been responding and telling me about the falling letter Z. I appreciate the help, folks, but I have message now. I don't need anyone to explain it to me anymore.

  • Does anyone have the version from the episode where Big Bird went to school?

  • They really could have used the original footage - the only real change is Big Bird's appearance and voice (which, by 1969, were mostly developed), and the presence of Susan in the original. The minor changes in Big Bird could easily be written off as him being younger - he certainly doesn't appear to age between the two time frames here!

  • @NewhamMatt: The thing is...he is supposed to be 6 FOREVER. Same for Elmo at 3 1/2 or Zoe at 4 or The Count at whatever number he defines himself as being age-wise. XD

  • Somewhere in the middle it gets awful queer to me.

  • At 0:31 looks like Big Bird crapped out the toy truck!

  • @gtz1975 Well that's better than how most birds crap ON trucks.

  • "I used to play with Ernie in his bath tub."

Excuse me but why is a four year old bird allowed to be in a bath tub with a childish adult. Do these guys live in Manhatten cause I am going to avoid their borough entirely if I ever have to move my family to New York.

  • @MexicanoINC How can Big Bird fit in a tub especially one with Ernie?

  • @MexicanoINC: Formerly on Broadway in Manhattan, but now in Queens on the West Side.

  • Big Bird sort of looks like a fragle.

  • I think it's funny how they have to zoom in on QR.

  • Somewhere in the middle it gets oftly queer to me!

  • i love big bird

  • I'm downloading this for my music video when I get the chance.

  • Big Bird = Pro

  • ive always wondered how the actor sees in the big bird suit. then again jim henson was a genius with that type of thing

  • @tyHawn According to Caroll Spinney's book, in the beginning, he only had a small opening in the feathers, possibly at the chest level of the bird suit. At some point, they furnished him with a small TV monitor that is placed inside the suit. It shows a view of the camera on him.

I met Caroll Spinney (who plays Big Bird & Oscar) at the Collector's Convention in Carol Stream, IL last week. He sang this song as well as "I Love Trash" to me in person. His voices still sound the same.

  • HAHA byebye, Z!

  • This song proves how clever this show is.

  • abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

  • haha awfully queer to me.

  • this is how in the world could you sing this song i can't pronaunce it can you?i can't abc forget it

  • he played with erine in his bathtub eww that sound so.... wrong lol

  • i wonder if big bird was voiced by the same person all the way thru... does anyone know?

  • @raddada100 Caroll Spinney has been doing it since 1969, and he still does it today. I just met him at a convention appearance, and I can't believe he's 77 years old!

  • @jeopardy60611

Wow! That must of been exciting!

  • @sweetlife031 It was very exciting. It fascinated me to have him talk and sing to me and he sounded exactly like he did back in the '70s. I forgot to mention that I knocked on his table and yelled "Oscar!" because of how the other people always knock on Oscar's trash can. Caroll said, in his perfect Oscar voice, "Get away from my trash can!"

  • @jeopardy60611

Heehee :) I've always loved Big Bird; my favorite clip/segment is when he sang "Songs" with Crystal Gayle :)

I used to have a almost lifesize Big Bird toy; his yellow feathers were represented as fluffy fur,:)

  • LOL Big Bird pooped out the toy truck at 0:32 LOL

  • I love it! Memories! Wonderful:)

  • It's got to be hard saying that word with a straight face

  • it's great..and a good idea to re-record the song because the voice has obviously improved since the first time Big Bird sang it....

  • I think there was also a remake of the song around the Season 3-5 mark. I'm guessing this because I saw on a Season 35 "My Favorite Sesame Street Moments" segment. I saw a 70s looking Big Bird singing this song with the banner hanging across his doors. He was singing while a celebrity was talking, but I was able to tell it was that song. If anybody can find a clip of that. Please upload it.

  • D iz for donkey

U is for u are silly

M is for mommy luvs U!!!!!!!

B is for Big Bird cant read the alphabet Chart 4 crying out loud

  • this takes me back!! wow. I haven't heard this for years but haven't forgotten it. Thanks for posting.

  • OMG 1969's sesame street big bird scared the crap outta me this is the better version luv this....

  • wow. this totally takes me back. thanks for posting this!! :)

  • it doesn't have this show anymore :(

  • I remember Big Bird singing a bit of "ABC-DEF-GHI" on one episode where the whole street sings karaoke, but I forgot what episode number that was. I know it started with "40", but I don't remember the other two numbers.

Anyway, from that little bit Big Bird sang, it was a catchy song that even I sang it to myself at random times. It's my favorite now.

  • Never mind. I just remembered the episode number: 3983. It was the karaoke episode I remembered very well, but memories of what number it was were rather fuzzy (I thought it started with "40".)

I think I'll go sit in the corner now. ;-)

  • XD I say that every time I make a mistake.

  • Oh, thank you for finding this update of the 1969 version.

  • i remember seeing this episode! brings back old memories! :-)

They don't make Sesame Street like they do now.

  • if they remake this song now... it would suck

  • I know just what you mean. And one think I can't stand that they do is those fake flashbacks. They talk about something that happened 20+ years ago and try to make the actors look younger. If theyr'e gonna talk about the past, why don't they just use real scenes from the past. That would be great.

  • I remember two other scenes on Sesame Street where this song was sung.

The first skit involved Preston Rabbit and Elmo Monster where they both sang this song in front of Big Bird, and Preston asked Big Bird what the word means, and Big Bird said "it doesn't mean anything", and he said the alphabet in front of Elmo and Preston.

The second scene was where Stinky The Plant sang the song wondering what kind of word it was, and Big Bird told him that it's not a word, it's the alphabet.

  • I remember Big Bird also sang this song in the year 1969 (he was a little more bald back then) but, this was the skit I saw when I was very young for the first time, and when I first heard Big Bird pronouncing the alphabet since he thought it was a word, I was laughing thinking it sounded funny, and I wondered why he was saying that since I said to myself "that's not how you say the alphabet."

  • stuWERTzyz?

  • I always wondered how come big bird was silly enough not to know the alphabet but yet is SMART enough to be able to pronounce it ???

  • Yeah. That thought crossed my mind too, but if we were to question little details like that, we wouldn't have this song. I think it's one of the best songs on the street,

  • @Justdizzy I know right? I was wondering the same thing! He must know what the alphabet is since he obviously knows how to read!

  • @Justdizzy: Yeah. Just call "Big Bird's pronouncement of the alphabet" the official name for the alphabet, defined as 26 letters used to create words in the American English language, originally derived from Latin.

  • @Justdizzy He sounded it out xD

  • CLASSIC SONG! I LOOOOOOVE IT!

"Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is the most remarkable word I've ever seen. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.

I wish I knew exactly what I mean.

It starts out like an 'A' word as anyone can see.

But somewhere in the middle, it gets awful 'qr' to me."

    MEMORABLE LINES! <3 : )

  • I remember seeing this version in the early 90s

  • I'm assuming you're pubescent and just plain ignorant.

Carrol Spinney does bigbird and he is a father.

  • how did you know? XD

  • no I made it up for accounts when I was young, it was the brand of my swimming goggles

  • I can see why he redid it. He sounds a lot less like an intoxicated arlo guthrie in the new recording, and his pitch is much more accurate - he must've taken singing lessons while working on sesame street. i also can't help appreciating the justification of the use of the word "queer"

  • he started out like A word too, as anyone can C

  • Whaha :P

  • Big Bird and Snuffelupagus are my two fave Sesame Street characters!

  • me too, the dinosaur and the giant goose forever!

  • LOL!, z drops off.

  • no it didn't

  • oopsie. didn't see it.

  • BIG BIRD AYLA AND ERICA

    2009.

  • LOL it drops

  • Hey, it says here that Big Bird is refered to as a male bird. Is that true?! That;s a shock, if it is. cuz in Israel it a female! Though we didn't have her on the show itself (we had Kippi instead, the cutest porcupine ever!), though in the books...

    So what is it exeactly?!

  • Big Bird is definitely a boy in America! (and australia, where we have the American Sesame Street). It is so funny for me to think of Big Bird as a girl! ahahahah!

  • That's also because Caroll Spinney is a man! People are sometimes confused by his given name.

  • @ClassicTVMan81 I thought Big Bird was female when I was a little kid, because his voice is so high. Later on I discovered he was male when I heard Gordon refer to Big Bird as "he" or "him."

  • It looks awfully "QR" to me too!!! lmao

  • This clips is cool!

  • When the show began, each muppet had its own song u can identify it by. THis was BB's. Ill bet every1 can figure out the 1s for the other muppets

  • brian:

    Bein' Green--Kermit

    ABCDEFGHI--Big Bird

    Rubber Duckie--Ernie

    Doin' the Piegon--Bert

    C is for Cookie--Cookie

    Song of The Count--The Count

    Monster in the Mirror--Grover

    I Love Trash--Oscar

    Elmo's Song (Elmo's World)--Elmo

  • Grover's more likely signature song: What do I do when I'm alone?

  • @1RichardHunt: I don't know. It's not as memorable, I think. I mean, even the Monster Clubhouse gang knows of the "Wubba Wubba" (Monster in the Mirror) song and yet, they were only around for 2 seasons before the 2007 revamp.

  • @TherealRNO

But "What do I do when I'm Alone" is heard on Platinum, Sesame Street Best, and Songs from the street.

  • @1RichardHunt: Point taken. Maybe like with Ernie regarding Rubber Ducky & Put Down the Ducky, Grover uses both of them as his signature songs?

  • @TherealRNO

    I guess so.

  • Did they ever play this skit in the 90's?

  • Yes, I believe they did.

Anyone notice how the alphabet in the present day sequence is missing the Z at the end?

  • Yeah. At 0:57, you can see the Z fall off of the alphabet banner.

Yes kids. There are 25 letters in the alphabet, from A to Y. XD

  • That's what Forgetful Jones would say.

And you're right. I didn't notice the Z fall before.

  • @Jbrangwynne53 The missing Z caused Forgetful Jones no end of problems!

  • @Garrettk41 the Z drops at 0:55

  • @Garrettk41 That's because it falls off onto the floor when he pulls it out of the trunk.

  • @annoyingbookworm Yes, I realize that now. I hadn't noticed before.

  • @Garrettk41 if you look closely, you can see as it falls off.

  • @Garrettk41 the Z fell off when they handed it to Bird. Lol.

  • Right. I get that now.

  • I will say, though, that this version sounds softer and flater than the original, lacking its bouncy enthusiasm. Big Bird seems more mellow, more reserved, almost like he's on Ritalin or something.

  • True. The weird thing is that this version uses the same backing track as the 1969 version.

  • I thought it was the same. Hmmm. Maybe the performer was under the weather when they filmed it.

  • @OtherBrother42 Yea...totally too mellow. Sounds like Big Bird popped a Xanex before he sang this remake.

  • Hooray, no Elmo! It interesting how there's a flashback sequence, but not the original footage. It's still very good, though. ^_^

  • This was the first version of the song I saw(sans the part with the kids).

  • Yeah. The intro with the kids was cut out in later airings of episodes and in the video Big Bird Sings. The intro is retained in the DVD "What's the Name of That Song?" which is where this comes from.

  • I first saw it on the video Getting Ready For School. And I have the DVD What's the Name of That Song?.

  • I figured that it came from that DVD.
