He has speed but it comes from double tonguing. Anybody else plays the trumpet besides me? Double tonguing let's you tongue your notes faster to make it not sound slurred at such speeds. Cause if you can't double tongue it's all a slur. Explanation in short: When you tongue it doesn't sound slurred.
I find it so...interesting, to be polite...that instead of people enjoying the Haydn trumpet concernto here (whether or not they like the "articulation," vibrato, tempo, etc), there is so much unneeded conversation about whether or not the US has produced "a truly great" composer, and just generally the getting into a pissing contest. I am always amazed at this sort of behavior. And yes, many teenagers, many people who like music that doesn't fall into the "classical" category, and yes...
@TheWelthawood that is so true is you search any classical music instead of talking about the beauty of the music they bring up justin beiber and compare him to mozart or haydn and bach... i mean why even bring it up?
I needed to know this great piece for my music class final, and I've listened to it so much that now it is stuck in my head. Not a bad thing, to tell you the truth. A very energetic piece and a great example of early classical music.
I don't think you should be judging anyone based on the music they listen to. I'd rather listen to this than the mumbo jumbo on today's radio. How sad I must be! If an individual chooses to appreciate good music, be it every day, respect their decision for listening to such a wonderful piece rather than criticising, after all, you're listening to it as well. Don't be a loonie. Peace :)
I am not one for mainstream either. I hate R&B, Drum & Bass, and most others in the charts. I like the clash and bands like that. Bearing in mind that I am a teenager.
@MrConnorFossil keep in mind that i'm also a teenager and I don't really care if you like classical music. it doesn't matter at all... anybody can enjoy it and it's not rare for a teenager to like classical music. and hell... I LOVE CLASSICAL MUSIC!!!
@ashieeb93 So true, I cant stop listening to this, I listen to it just about everyday, something about it I cant get enough lol Especially the trumpet!
@lenz50a im only 15 and i can play this very well too...it takes about 5 months to do this so you just need to first start slow and acurate then you can play the actual tempo
Stunning performance. Nice to hear this piece played by a "real" orchestra and a trumpet soloist who's over seventeen years old !! Why must all of the other performances of this piece on YouTube be played by children? This was a great recording too.
why the solo part from 3:41 to 4:50 is not performed when I listen to other trumpet performers playing this movement? I've listened to a few here in youtube and they "jump" over that part
I admit I am probably one of the older contributors to this discussion on trumpets. I have the advantage of attending a clinic by Mendez and seeing him in concert when I was in high school. His life story is worth a movie. As a youngster he played bugle for Pancho Villa. He suffered an accident to the mouth and he recovered from it all to become one of the best at his craft who ever lived. Just an opinion but he was awesome to watch. Technique, breath control. The best. Thanks
Sorry, but it's horrbile played! Too fast (and I don't think it's the conducters fault, they normally take the tempi of the soloist, maybe he was soloist and conducter..), bad sound, technical stuff sounds too hard, he resqueezes the notes (I don't know, whether you can say this word in this context, he produces the sound and then he pushs extra air) and I really don't like his vibrato, the articulation (e.g. 2:40 following) and his cadenza..
@PBaer35 I am afraid I must disagree with your analysis of this piece. I do feel it was taken too fast, but it is all in personal preference. The performer did a very good job of playing this song when you take the speed it was played into effect. Again, the sound was also good considering the speed this song was taken. The technical areas were executed perfectly and I only hear one or 2 notes that he re-squeezed. As for vibrato, what do you expect at this speed?
@Nuker1337 Not trying to start a fight or anything between you, This is just a statement, There are Americans who actually love music. Just not many. Where you have to start and love music right from the get-go is school. From school you move on to more challenging pieces of music, This is only where it starts.
Europeans are good musicians? And there are many more then Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. Also though in the Western world, Western composers tend to be more known then those of other cultures.
@andrewkicksmajorass maybe because the USA didnt exist when they were alive, and because the western world does not really accept music from other parts of the world with great contempt
I have this exact same recording. The person playing is Ludwig Gutler (sp). I believe that's how his name is spelt. It was released on laser light digital recording in a cd 10 pack. I believe it was called 100 greatest classical hits? Or something of that nature...
@gradwhan Austria, and especially Vienna attracted good composers from all over Europe during the Wiener Klassik and Romantic Eras in much the same way as Los Angeles attracts actors and directors today.
@ardley216 I know of no truly great American composer. The only half-decent ones I know of write movie soundtracks, which of course mostly are ripped from the great composers of Europe.
