Carla's music has a calming effect. I suppose that many people will benefit from this ... particularly in these trying times when we are seeing a world economic slowdown.
I wanna be an over-paid, over-sexed, former model, come-French first lady, come Italian heiress. What else would one do but write music over poems all day long. I want to be Carla Bruni. I want to say frivolous things like lust only lasts three weeks.
last thing, art is life. beauty doesn't need anything else. it just needs to be. creation is life and as nietzsche said, if we could transform all the passions in art, we would grow stronger. anyway i don't think her art is for you to understand or judge the way you do. cuz whatever what she does, where she's from and how she does it... she creates something and that's the only thing we will ever know. then again, i'm not really defending her. you just can deny someone's right to create art.
Agree completely with you. Everybody should be able to create art, as you do. The thing is that whatever "beautiful" art you do, you will never be in the position of doing what she has done. Correct? She has done it, because it is easy for her? Normally the artist who has something to say, and that comes from the deep of her/his soul, is somebody like Van Ghog; one who struggled to survive and was sincere to his art. If making art is too easy, then it could be shallow. Hope you see what I mean.
The other thing i wopuld like to say is that: of course she is, as anybody else, free to do what she wants, but what she does, does easily influence many people. I'm talking especially of people who judge a singer for how s/he looks like. Those people who like certain music because of the look of the singer have a shallow consideration of music, and today this superficiality dominates the world; that is my argument, if you see what I mean. We are like slaves of appearances, and this is not good.
You know what, I understand what you mean. People are easily influenced by appearances, by the outside of things. And that is basically wrong. When we like something we make a choice. So if you like a specific signer, I think it means you agree not only with their ''art'' but also with what they represent. It makes sense. Superficiality does dominate the world. This is a real problem and the artists that wanna take a stand against that risk to never make a lot of money, you know?
But it's perfectly fine. It's perfectly right. That is what everyone should do. Follow their inspiration and not try to create something easy, fast.. that is just gonna entertain. And I thought she might have done that. I mean, she doesn't dance half-naked in her videos.. and her music is not really commercial, you know? But I mean, you're right, there is a difference between her and Van Gogh.
I guess that overall, the real problem is that there is no real culture anymore. When you start evaluation everything on the same level, you obviously lose something. A ballet and a football game can't be evaluated the same... just like Van Gohg and Carla Bruni... or Beethoven and Britney Spears! That is the real problem, I think. Even if you can prefer pop music to classical music, you cannot say that Beethoven wasn't a genius, right? So in such a situation, it's hard to create something real..
and it is so unfair to say that the average guy can't understand art. you don't need a degree on anything to feel emotions. you might not appreciate all the hidden things, but does that make you unworth looking at it? and when i said that art was democratic i meant that it is for everyone to reach. you seem to say that to make art you have to be known by everyone. i create art everyday and do not need people to see it or approve it. and i don't mean to become famous with it. it still is art.
i totally agree that nowadays art is sold and that a lot of ''creations' can't be called art anymore. but you know, it is not because she is rich that she does not feel things. it probably was easier for her than a ''poor girl'' to make a record. but i don't think she can be hated cuz she is rich!? she's a human being. i think you are a little intolerant. why not accept everyone? you don't have to like it. but it doesn't mean it is not art.
i dont care about her private life or to whom she is merried with or much she worth..those doesnt affect my life at all.i admire her talent.period!!:)
Dear all, I see many people upset here by the fact that someone criticises her. Why are you upset? Why do you support her? Why do you support celebrities? What do you gain from this? Don't you understand that they use you? Don't you know that you are just an indioctrinated slave of TV and celebs?
excuse you!...what are you talking abou? you dont need to generalized your "Dear all"! i am here to admired her voice and her talent. i dont care about her private life.i dont care if she is celebs or singing in you tube or just singing on the street.gheee!chill!!
I guess you want to say that she is a celebrity and what she does is not artistic. But if you wanted to say the opposite, then let me ask you: what do you know about art? Do you have a degree in history of art? Can't you understand that one day she woke up, and, because she does nothing, just decided to give it a go? She is just a priviled woman, with little talent, and you are just a blind person, who thinks more of the image she projects than of her music.
art is democratic. anyone can create art. and you sure don't need a degree to understand it. it is just a reflection of emotions. i do not know how much honesty she puts into her work and i guess that this how you can tell the difference btw real art and the commercial crap that most contemporary singers do. so if she is honest i don't think you can reproach her anything. everybody is human and do the best they can. then again, i don't know her at all. and image is part of ''art'', dear.
That art is democratic I'm not really sure. In fact, if she was just a poor girl she would have not recorded her music. Just because she is rich, by having done nothing more than display herself, she then can have spare time and money to spend for her recordings. And she was from a rich family anyway....what democracy are you talking about? Also, her music is a debased version of Jack Johnson's music; she is even a plagiarist...what art id this?
Also, do you know that art in the last century or so has been debased and commercialised to make everyone without a certain level of culture appreciate and buy? Are you sure you do not need a degree in history of art to understand properly art? Well, then you are very well indoctrinated by the system....good luck to you anyway...if you are happy to consider this music art, that's all I can say.
best thing i've see on YouTube... brings the poems off the page. Nicely and expensively produced promo, but wonderfully simple. "..I carry the sun in a golden cup.. dat,de,da-da-da.."
"...I carry the sun in a golden cup...." the first tym i heard when am listening at this slide, makes me smile'thought t'was a wonderful line.and you cathed it too:)PEACE
Refreshing to hear singing to an acoustic guitar, sung very sweetly and gently. I like her accent. The words are rather weird, but she didn't write them. Sarkozy is a lucky man.
she's beautiful and her song writing is good, but her voice is almost gone, probably due to smoking. It devolves to air. It may be sexy, but it shows a problem with her voice itself. She could never sing in in a choir--she can't even sustain a tone. I hope she never ends up with lung problems. However, I love the idea of putting good poetry to music--I've done it myself.
When she's talking about the poetry, her voice sounds just like she was singing that poetry at the certain moment. She's got such both cold and hot voice.
Carla! C'mon! Be honest! What writing music are you talking about? You sound exactly like Jack Johnson! Not to be rude or nasty, but you write songs only because you have too much time available in your life. DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE FOR SOCIETY! rather than getting involved with music. You will never be remembered in the history of the world for your songs, not sure even for the rest...well actually, maybe...by marrying Sarkosy ;-), so, give up music, I know you will now.
Well, igf45, you seem to be very touchy, even if I talk about her and not you. And who makes you believe that I want to be remembered? You see? Your reaction is very childish.

Congratulations Carla! It's never too late to start reading books! Also, do not apologise if your songs are too simple, we do not expect any better from you. ;-)
Before beginnning her 'heads of state' period, she had her 'philosopher' period : she was specialized in screwing them (first a philosopher father; then the son (married, but who cares? CB didn't...) -- that's why she thinks she's an intellectual !
If you were born in one country and then moved to another, you would obviously learn to speak the languages of both. If you then had an international career, traveling throughout the world, you would then very naturally pick up others. No great shakes, really !
As for her 'ability' to play several instruments, it really doesn't compare with Stevie Wonder's ! A very mediocre talent, with a great love of self - did I hear 'presumptuous' ?
