I am not against eventing or dressage and do both myself, and this a lovely ride, but Anky certainly does abuse her horses. She uses rollkur which is extremely abusive, but it is also why she has come as far as she has.
you all are fighting about divisions and shit being abuse. Not certin diviion in the horse world [jumpers, dresage, blahblah] are abuse. It's the people in it that may abuse their horse, but not the certin sport in the horse world. I've known alot of people in ALL horse sports who DONT abuse. Then again i've known people who..er whats the word, i dont see eye to eye with in their 'tricks' but alot more good people who care alot about their horses then bad people
The cross country phase of eventing is not as dangerous as the stereotype you believe.
Eventing statistically has less falls, injuries , and deaths than hunter/jumpers. Now in hunters and jumpers, the fences are made up of poles, sometimes small lightweight boxes, but mostly lightweight poles. Now can someone tell me why?
Because we know how to ride and take it seriously.
I agree with Twlighlight Cowgirl, Anky wouldn't be as far as she is if she abused her horses.
@DrivenStar Do you consider rollkur abuse? Because it is a proven fact that she trains with that method. You can even tell from the way her horses moves during his tests. Obviously there has to be some truth to the fact that she abuses her horses. Opinions like that of such a highly esteemed person don't just appear out of thin air. More than likely someone has witnessed that first hand.
Yes she does. Her black gelding Salinaro has spur scars and ever Olympic traiining session or trial, he has bleeding gashes on his sides. It's a known fact. If he doesn't get the cue right off the bat, he gets it rough.
Are you absolutely sure that they're spur scars? My instructor has an exceptional warmblood who as a colt developed some fungul infection or something and still has the scars as a seven year old... they look alot like spur scars, but if you look close enough you can tell they're different than spur injuries.
I don't know alot about Anky, but I'm guessing if she abused her horses, she wouldn't be as far as she is.
Are you serious??? You don't know she abuses? Holy cow. There are photographs and video of Anky after winning the dressage gold metal, where she has a personal vet to disenfect and treat his wounds after a competition. Her horse is broken. Salinaro is a true definition of a broken horse. (In a bad way.)
Like I said, I don't know much about her, I'm an eventer and aren't full dressage.
Abuse is a synonym to neglect, and she wouldn't get too far with a neglected horse. You don't know the horse. Yes, he's broken, but I'll bet he's a helluva nice horse compared to just about everyone's.
@loneoakgrls I don't agree with rollkur, but Salinero is not abused. The FEI wouldn't allow it.
Don't acuse her of abuse when you're an advocate of jumping horse's over solid fences. How many horse's die from eventing? How many from dressage? Keep that in mind next time you falsly accuse someone.
I'm not trying to start anything or say that dressage is better, I'm just stating the facts. Horse's and people DO die and the only incidents I've ever heard of are during the cross country phase.
We are so excited that Gina will be the keynote speaker for the USPC 2010 Annual Meeting in Houston. She is so gracious to share her incredible experiences with her Pony Club fans!
Man...what a dream come true for Gina. She has worked her whole life for this moment. I am so proud of her. She is so humble and deserving of this accomplishment. An excellent teacher and good friend. I love the shot of Gina's best friend Sarah at the end :-)

As far as FEI allowing rollkur, a ruling has just been made to ban the use of rollkur in warm ups, so obviously they see a problem too.

Do you have proof of photos or something? And her groom says there are NO spur marks on his barrel or any part of him! Google search it.
