My cousin gave birth to a daughter who had this.Her husband told her to get rid of "it" else he would divorce her.She decided to keep the baby so it led to her divorce.She can not get re-married because everyone wants to ditch the baby.Its a sad fucked up world we live in.

I was born in 1981 with Spina Bifida. Given the fact that the doctors told my mom that if I lived at all, I would be a vegetable and mentally retarded, I am happy to report that I am about to turn 30 years old, live on my own, am working on a degree in Psychology, and have an IQ in the 130s, Yes, life gets rough but I have a good life! My disability doesn't make me less of a person or less deserving of having a life, it just makes me different.....like everyone else.

Also, we have since learned that folic acid should be increased six months before conception. Please do not wait until you are pregnant, especially if there is a high incidence of SB in your family. Must admit...of our five children, Ben has been our greatest blessing and least pain-in-the-neck. It's not what you have, it's what you do with it!

My son Ben has Spina Bifida Occulta. Of his five lower lumbar, one extremely malformed and one barely there. Affects bowel and bladder; not toilet trained until 9 (no sensation). His gait is lumbering; shorter stature. Autistic but higher functioning; written and expressive learning disorder. Ears smaller and set lower on head. The info re: folic acid came out when he was six months old. There are other cases of SB in my husband's family. Ben is 25, red head and great attitude and sense of humor

Thank you for making this video. My niece was born today and she has Spinda Bifida. I'm pretty sure they said it was the third kind. I don't know much on her condition right now, but I'm trying to learn all I can. God has a plan for this beautiful little girl (:

I actually suffer from spina bifida. I am also legally blind. Is it possible that the spina bifida caused my blindness?

Anything is possible although it is unlikely given that the lesion has to be well below the optic nerve.

i have a freind who has spina bifida. one time when i was sitting next to her during her physical therapy i remember seeing these bumps. but seeing this video i know what type she has...thanks for the video btw. i now know what it really looks like on the inside.

I'm 19 years old with lipomeningocele, L4-S1. I can't feel anything from my waist down but can walk short distances. Otherwise, I use my chair to get around. I try not to let it take over my body and tell me I can't do something. Don't let it happen to you. Find some good friends and do what everyone else does. It doesn't have to be who you are.

Folic Acid can help prevent having a kid with it. Eat enough eggs should do the trick.

i had spina bifida meningocele. i had surgery at 5 days old. after that my spine had to be keept still in a plaster form for some months. now i have a perfect life and the single thing that can show i had this illnes is a little whole on my back where the sac was.

I really love how you put this presentation together. All the facts were accurate and very informative. I wish I had seen something like this when I learned my daughter had Spina Bifida 13 years ago.
