  • HA g-string

  • I'm expecting a bass guitar for Christmas, and I've never played one before. This video just helped me so much, I'm not even kidding. Thank you so much.

  • what mean x in tabs? pls

  • one thing i can't seem to figure out, is if acoustic bass and electric bass read the same tabs and notes and strings and stuff?

  • wow i understand what tabs are now...im learnin how to play bass and it kinda frightened me about tabs in music

  • Nope...that didn't help at all!!! More confused than before!

  • whats the name of this book

  • Am I the only who didnt learn anything from this?

  • @RDdaNINJA lol i learned nothing from this too!

  • i have the blue yamaha bass!!!!:D

  • @CHRIS916able Same!

  • 64th notes ftw!

  • Thanks I think I get it now lol

  • DUDE! Finally I understand, I was sittin there staring at this 'TAB' thing like 'what?' THANK YOU THANK YOU!

  • Thanks for sharing this!

  • is the e string the top thickest 1? lol

  • @perry244 Yeah lol

  • If you like tabs try Miditrainer .c om

I tried it and I like it, its easier than tabs, and sheet music

  • why cant u get free sheet music been playing 6 years all there is on the internet is gay tabs im tired of it

  • yeah this is helpful to people like me who just started. maybe not the elitist, but for me.

and music isnt about being perfect.

  • i have a question, i play classical bass and bass guitar so i know the notes, what im asking is y cant we just read the notes instead of the tabs.

  • @TheMtnDewfan01 We use Tab to read because it is much easier to read, simple as that

  • @TheMtnDewfan01 you can read notes but as he said it is easier for people who are not capable of reading notes, and its allot easier to read instead of taking years to learn notes. But for some people tabs are to difficult for them to read but its what you prefer lol

  • next week, what music is.

  • next week, how to put a strap on your bass

  • lol 1:54

  • From musician to another, much appreciated. Just starting to learn the bass, and your videos are great! Also, love the Bass Clef tattoo on your forearm! haha

  • Thanks dude for explaining how to read tabs. Some of us older musicians out here that play other instruments can very well appreciate what guys like you do to help others.I am a drummer of 36+ years but I am currently teaching myself the bass for about 2 years now.Still got a long way to go.I'm sorry to read where these so called expert idiots are posting comments making fun of your clip.Pay them no attention.I am glad people like you try to help others. They will wish it were them someday.

  • What makes you think that someone who's looking for Bass Tabs is an "Expert Idiot"!!! We're all beginners...that's why we're looking for "Bass Tabs"...

  • @smorin71 I think you misunderdtood my comment.I am a beginner myself. What I mean by my comment is the bass players that are well seasoned and are good players that do not need tabs. They are the arrogant ones that think they know it all and they are the ones that seem to forget that they too were once beginners and they just want to bad mouth the rest of us.These idiots as I put it,are the ones that can play but just want to de-grade us beginners. So don't be offended by my comment

  • @smorin71 They're talking about people who know how to play bass, and make fun of us for being beginners, who don't know what the Hell we're doing.

  • I like the part where he talks about the tabs

  • wow thanks man!!!

  • next week, how to hold your bass

  • thiss is dummmbbb

  • @framers920 thats because it's expert village

  • what book are you using

  • wow he forgot to teach how to flip the pages of the tabs hahahaha.

  • Tab is just silly. I am currently learning bass without tab and only sheet music

  • @nickthecomedian i learned it like that but when you see tabs then its like 'What the is that' which is why i'm watching this video

  • @Janniishere i can already read tab i just never use it

  • Utah?!?! I might have to go to to that store sometime, even if I am lefty

  • next week, how to plug your bass in.

  • @Gepduarsin have to start somewhere you fanny.

  • @Gepduarsin best joke ever on a youtube video man :))))))

  • @Gepduarsin dont be a deusch bag... stfu atleast hes helping us!

    FUCKING FAG!!!

  • @76Danny7 :You spell douche funny XD

  • @Gepduarsin

:D You just made my day!

  • @Gepduarsin smartass. some people who are just starting to learn dont know this shit

  • Hey, I see my bass there! The one in the blue on the right of the dude talking. haha

  • @Gepduarsin now, It's a simple process really. It is a lot easier than pluging in an accoustic bass.now first you'll nead the following.

    a bass

    an amp chord

    an amp.

    that is all for now.

  • Almost 10/10 guitar players use tab.

  • this guy is a certified retard. -_____________-

  • this video didnt tell me anything about how to actually read a bass tab -___-

  • tabs make NO sence.

  • @naytayx3,,

they do make sense, yu just need to listen to the song to get the rythem of the song! ;-)

  • @naytayx3 actually it does. at first glance it makes no sense, but once you figure it out its super simple, and it is pretty easy to figure out.

the number = what fret your finger needs to be on. And it will be on the line that indicates the string you need to play. if the number is 0 that means it is open. if there is an x that means that string isn't plucked.

  • @HeavyMetalAndWhiskey Ok I understand that, but what I dont get is how do you know how many fingers to put down?

  • @Finklezz75 well if you have a tab that has something like e=0 B=1 G=0 D=2 A=3 E=X (which is a C cord) then you know that you need to put down 3 fingers as 0 means open and X means not played. In what order, well when you play guitar after a while you kind of just know how to organize your hand on the fret.

With music sheet, you have to know what the notes mean already and how to play them, but sometimes it will have a tab note on the side.

  • @Finklezz75

think of tab and music sheet like this.

Music sheet is like a cook book. It tells you the ingredients, exactly how much to put in and for how long.

Tab is like a half-ass'd paper on how to cook something, it tells you the ingredients but instead of saying one cup of sugar it will say a handful of sugar.

Its the poor man's music sheet pretty much.

if 10 people see a music sheet, they will play the way.

With tab, they will play 10 different ways.

    Most guitarists use tab.

  • Whats the black guitar in the background? 2nd to the left. It looks like a Zenon bass, I think it might be. I'm not sure

  • there's a 0 fret? is that the first one?

  • @mlbmlsnfl

    0 is open string..not fretted

  • @Xnothinbetter2dewX thx soo much

  • 100 useful videos are million times better than 138,793 useless videos...

  • .....

  • make more videos please

  • i dont play bass but i wunt 2 and now i can read yayy

  • E,A, D,G is much easier to remember than doing his 'TAB' thing! god!

  • @tonymcg4 ur funny hahahahahahha

  • bass clef tattoo. very lame

  • hahahah g string

  • haha

  • Utah? R you a Mormon? =D I am

  • @Odin5150 - Tabs isn't all you need at all, and that comment alone makes me suspicious about your alleged qualifications. Tabs do not take into account timings of notes, nor does it explain how to play the whole piece as a coherent piece of music. If you are already familiar with a piece of music then tabs show you where to put your fingers, but if you are learning something you aren't that familiar with, traditional notation is better. I say this as a self taught bassist who can't read music!

  • @cuteshortjoey heyy i saw this comment im 14 and i wonna start playing bass and i cnt get myself lessons and my parents wont pay 4 them cuz i already do a lot of stuff so can u let me know how 2 self teach ur self so i can 2 thx

  • the numbers are the fingering. and what ever line its on that is the string you play it on from bottom/low to top/high.

  • =='' i play guitar and when my church group told me to play bass i somehow knew that the 4 strings were E A D G like in guitar except for the last two strings B E

  • i tought my self how to read bass tabs not hard if u need help or any question msg me

  • i am better with tabs than regular music with bass

  • IVE PLAYED 15 yrs GRADUATED FROM BERKLEY SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND STILL CANT READ MUSIC NOTES FOR SHIT ....TABS ARE GREAT ALL YOU NEED

  • @odin5150

Sorry, but if you are a music school graduate and you play for 15 years and still can't read notes, you are dumb...

  • @odin5150 agreed regular notes are so hard screw quarter note I want 000002222 haha

  • @odin5150 your a dumb fuck my kind sir like really i learnt how to read sheet music in about 3 months....

  • Question:

Is the top bar on the tablature the lowest pitched string on the bass?

    Thanks.

  • @WCScum no the highest that would be the G string

  • an entire year I waited for my teacher to tell me about tabliture and I learned nothing. What a crummy teacher I had in elementary school. Couldn't even teach me what each not meant on the scale because I didn't understand standard noteation.

  • So a 0 on a tab would be an open string right?

  • yes

  • poo

  • @kingpin0072001uk thanks =)

  • can i ask ive only just started learning bass today in a tab say if it has 5 5 5 5 5 on a string does that mean strum the 5th fret as many times as there is 5 ?

  • Yep. You got it!

  • yeah, so if it says 5 5 5 5 5 you would play 5th fret 5 times.

  • Thank you i feel really dumb right now!!

  • does any one know of a web site that will give me the notations as well as the tabs?

  • im learning standerd sheet music for the bass too

  • ya thats my huge problem

I wanna play few figures/songs but the TABS on the internet aren't good enough as they have no notations above which will tell me the right rythm

I know when I listen to the song I can figure it out by myself but I am a perfectionist and I can't be sure if it'll be right even if I try to play like I hear it...

  • dude if you hear it and play it like you hear it ull stll play it right right? hav som confidence

  • heya guys i play douple bass ( the huge classical one) and i'm thinking of buying a electric bass guitar. Can anyone help what bass should i choose to?

  • a les paul bass

  • @qetuolac Get a five string, the only problem people have with them is the big neck, and if u can play the big one, u can handle a 5 string!!

  • im thinking about getting a bass and should i get a 4 5 or 6 string bass and also what is the difference between these

  • Id get a 4 sting.

    Its good for starting.

    5 strings = 1 lower, 6 strings = 1 lower, 1 higher.

Just get the 4 sting. When your realy good you can get your selfe a 14 string.. xD

  • Get a four string. you might think that its "for beginers" but professional bassists, such as flea (red hot chili peppers) and geddy lee (rush) use four string basses. five string basses have the additional lower note above the E string. six string basses have bothe the additional lower one as well as the addidtional higher one. besides, four sting basses are waaayyy more fun and in some cases less expensive. plus, theyre not so darn complicated!! Well, best of luck:)

    -mandi

  • more strings? lol just kidding if you have more strings you don't have to jump up and down with your fingers so much on the neck

  • if you have more strings

  • get 5 string. you can rest on the lowest string :D

  • a four string bass is the standard is recommended for beginners, or at last thats my opinion people can disagree with me thats fine. and if u get a five string bass it ads an extra string on the top so it wouldn't be EADG it would be BEADG and same for the sixth and it would be another one.

  • if you get a bass guitar you should start with a 4 string (thats what i did) and the 5 string bass has one thicker (lower) string while the 6 string has one lower, and one thinner (higher) string...so yeah get a 4, its all you usually ever need anyways

  • You're never going to show up on a gig and have someone put a chart in front of you written in tab. Learning to read standard notation is crucial.

  • wow that helped loads, they look so complicated to read but it's so easy, thanks =D

  • Thank you thank you thank you this helped me so much. Im a begginer bassist and i can read music and all but when i try to learn songs i find just a bunch of tabs and i want to learn how to read it.

  • so am I i read notational and tab though i find it really easy to read tab though i get confused when i read too many tabs

  • wow. this helped me a bunch. i learned how to read bass cleft for the stand up bass, but i never knew how the notes translated to what fret to play. tabs will help me learn the basics easy and not frustrating. 5/5

  • And also, what does the "r" right next to a number mean?

  • rest

  • When reading tabs, the x means on rhythm slash represents muted slash. What does this mean exactly?

  • lol isnt it kind of obvious how to read tabs?

  • Not if you don't know what tabs are?

  • or if you have learned music not tabs

  • t it simple, u have the strings on the side and the numbers are the frets, i dont even know how to read notation, the only good thing about notation is i know hwat notes to play such as quarter/16th

  • Comment removed

  • this accually somewhat helped me

  • you should really teach us how to read them instead of telling us how its help full

  • yea totally

  • @alltimelow2246 True...i didn't understand how to read them....

  • hahah

  • thanks

  • what would be a good site to get tabs????

  • just google what ever song you wanna learn ,..it'll pull up tons

  • fretplay is a sweet website has 99.9 % of the stuff i want to learn and there mostly right..

  • DONT GOOGLE IT!!!!! if u do u dont know how accurate it is , ,

go to ultimate-guitar or 911 tabs =] the tabs have ratings and everything

  • Theres nothing wrong with tabs.

I use them and i don't read sheet music at all.

  • this helps me well

  • Come on man, there are some people out there who are just beginners, they need to know this stuff. What bugs me is when someone ONLY learns TAB and refuse to learn how to read music!

  • lol ... tabs...are fer durrs.

well, if u cant get sheet music tabs are ok.

  • Great explanation of tabs. very good video

  • nice effecctive and straight forward.
