timo naturally uses a lot of topspin in all of his strokes so this is something between a drive and a loop-drive. in a match you rarely see timo driving through the ball even when smashing.
he loops a lot and his blade (spirit) is a looping machine.
now i'm not sure whether he is playing the looping game to get the most out of the blade, or was the blade designed to fit his looping style... either way, he loops a lot. lol
