It's in these circumstances that rounds discharge without being fired, in a rifle the bullet would just fly out the end... In a mortar it discharges the explosive inside the head of the round, making it go BOOM! :D

There are multipule different circumstances in which a round will "cook off" e.g. faulty round, faulty tube, misfeed etc. Just from this video its hard to say which one it was. Other people on this video have been saying that the explosion was a counter battery, but if you look closely the explosion comes directly from the tube.
