EVERYONE says derogatory things about others when they know they aren't being heard at some point in their week. This guys mistake was not leaving it until the bar later on (if he actually went to the bar) in a private conversation, and being unfortunate enough to have a faulty transmit switch. He didn't intend it to go out over the airwaves and as such didn't intentionally mean any harm by it. He has paid the price for his error.
