Nice vid, nice songs! 5 Stars for sure! Let me make a stupid question? What´s the mean difference between KDE, and GNOME? And can i download the AMD64 bits sabayon version for my Intel Core 2 quad?! Thanks!
You would use this one; Sabayon-Linux-x86_64-4 or this one SabayonLinux-x86_64-3.4.miniEdition
Gnome has always been the faster environment w/o so much KDE bloatware on Sabayon, due to KDE 4.0's stabilization problems. But in Sabayon 4.1my puter seems faster than in Gnome.
With the full 4+gig install DVD you can switch back n forth between them all, including XFCE w/ Compiz-Fusion to see what you like best. Naturally XFCE kills the performance of both Gnome or KDE!
I don't get it about Sabayon. So first you install some kind of preconfigured version, then the preconfigured version will lead you to customize and compile a version for your hardware? Is that how it works?
Most OS installs including Windows and versions/distros of Linux install from scratch. Meaning it's not just a decompressed image transfer to the harddrive like Sabayon!
Sabayon is a fully pre-configured install image. That installs all the drivers for your particular machine. The special effects are pre-configured as well. But you can simply use the Compiz-Fusion configuration manager to tweak them how you see fit!
This video shows some of the more intense Special Effects available!
Most performance hits on Sabayon are on KDE4.0 not optomized yet & it might have too many programs (remove some, easier than installing). So a bit of bloat!
The fact that it's a pre-installed/configured image shouldn't slow it down. It just might not be configured for your machine and tastes quite as well as a ground up install.
But most new users would be lost attempting a ground up install of a Gentoo system. Use full 4.1 version or mini if you don't have a powerful PC, or run XFCE!
If you mean having Compiz-Fusion pre-configured, they now have Quinn Storm's (developer of Beryl) original configuration tool back and tweaking it up to this level is much easier finally.
But just don't expect it to run this sweet on a Live boot up. This guy knows the system and has done much tweaking to get it to this level of performance in his install.
Of course playing "Disturbed" helps make it a WiCkEd install, too! xD
Hi all, I downloaded Sabayon 4.1 yesterday. But the problem is whenever I try to start the system (Live user & Pure installation), it pops up the username/Password dialog box and it doesnt let me pass that step. I havent installed the system. So I dont know the Username/Password. Why is this keep occuring? Any answer??
