  • i can never get enough of this ''interview'' ;)

  • "If you know how occasionally blue can be very funny". I now laugh every time I see the color blue

  • He thought the best part of the film was the countdown leader. Classic Allen. LOL!

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • Is the interviewer Peter Cook?

  • Interviewer can't stop breaking

  • hahah this can't be a real interview, surely

  • Well I like anything squiggly.

  • god damn poker face!

  • I think he is taking the piss because he is being asked such stupid questions.

  • I generally edit blindfolded

  • I try to keep as much comedy out of my films as possible.

    HAHAHHA

  • "Why is that...?" WORST JOURNALIST EVER.

  • SO funny. Wow, his improv is stellar.

  • This interviewer is fucking stupid, yet this is the best interview ever lol

  • @MilkCandyFarm The interviewer and Allen are friends. This was a joke done between the two on purpose.

  • "only negative criticizm."" hahahaha

  • @guyaldridge Oh, that was the first time he said it regarding laughing and happiness. Haha. They're both great!!

  • @guyaldridge The way Woody puts it: "It's a mistake" (sounds better that way... keep it)

  • oupss, it's ME, not catching it....

  • Who is the stupid journalist ? He doesn't catch a single clue !

  • @74aspi I think he starts to go along with it after a while...

  • woody allen is god! >.< <3

  • He's a genius! He's a genius!

    (NOT!)

  • @9162vb48 you're obviously ignorant.

  • Oh, he's sooooooo funny!

    (Quick, get me a barf-bag!)

  • every answer to every question had me laughing

  • Have you any ambitions in films? Ahh no, id like to be, I think id like to be found dead face down in the street

  • I couldn't stop laughing! XD

  • or incredebel realistic

  • what a mad man :))

  • Woody Allen's Sexy.

  • "a shot of the sky which was kinda puckish!"

  • "I edit blinfolded."

  • Woody who ??

  • Genius!!

  • what kind of nightmare?

  • Right around "Marvin Hamlisch" Woody starts to lose it, but regains his composure. Is that Peter Cook interviewing him? Voice sounds very familiar.

  • The guy is a genius...

"- Have you any ambitions in films?

    - No, think I would like to be found dead face down in the street."

    *LOL*

  • Dead-pan piss-taking. Woody is ACE!

  • soooo funny!!!! omgz!!!!!!

  • "I like anything squiggly."

  • This has to be a whole joke interview

  • 8:14 .. 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 "the message was that numerals can descend in order when placed properly"

  • 5:14 ** sorry

  • 5:19 "yes, but you're mistaken" what a man.

  • logan haynes is hotter <3

  • ricky moser is hot

  • actually, I think the interviewer is Mad Frankie Fraser.

  • I dont know who the interviewer is but I know who it isn't: Peter Cook or Russel Harty.

I wish he could have managed to keep up the crap interviewer act throughout the whole interview, it would have been even better. still great though.

  • I thought he was serious up until "I edit blindfolded" LOL!

  • Awesome. I wish more directors would have fun like this in interviews. Woody's the greatest. And I love how the interviewer is just playing along instead of stomping on Woody's jokes, like so many dumb shits who interview comedians today.

  • @Omnicron777 You're gullible if you think he was gullible. ;)

  • Who would've thought that a few years later he actually would make a very serious film about divorce with no jokes at all

  • @Omnicron777 No he is not.He is playing along.

  • I put a lot of thought into this comment.

  • @bobbybobsta : magnificent!

  • The interviewer has a British sense of humor.

  • i think woody made this himself to entertain and instruct.....no interviewer could be that stupid of affectless in the course of it.......and if he is....he could be on fox today!!

  • @eswillie the interviewer would be cool to play along, really.

  • I love Woody Allen!

  • brilliant

  • Having fun is fun.

  • Woody Allen is referenced in the book

"6 Newly Discovered and Never Before Published Secrets to Eternal Youth and Immortality"

    by Eternal Youth Empire.

Thank you for being such a profound inspiration!!!

  • damn I appreciate his Honesty!!

  • i love this guy!

  • This is a pretty typical early 70's era journalist. they just let themselves get jerked around and read their note card. It's pretty funny how allen exploits this

  • @wpfairbanks Is that why modern interviews are disappointing?

  • @wpfairbanks Pretty sure this is comedian Peter Cook interviewing him i.e. the interviewer is playing along.

  • I have no idea how he plays it so straight all the way haha

  • Hmm, I'll listen again. I didn't get the impression he was holding back laughs, but perhaps I'm mistaken. Will check.

  • "The first film I made was Potemkin."

  • lol what a bad interview but good interview at the same time

  • Woody Allen: The Original Troll

  • Arthur Schopenhauer is the "original troll."

  • @TheSoundOfHush: He's definitely up there in the top five, but he isn't the original or even the best. Bob Dylan trolled a lot harder than Woody, and I'd dare say George Carlin did too.

  • "i don't laugh at anybody." funny actually in all the woody movies i've seen... from Antz to Annie Hall i can't remember him laughing... or for more than a second and w/o (some) nervousness.

  • "Is he still writing?"

"He was as of this morning."

    "And this afternoon?"

    "No he's retired."

  • "No... I generally edit blindfolded"

    Owned.

  • "Can you remember anything about it?"

"Not really. Except that the whole thing was like a nightmare."

haha. This is the most brilliant thing I've ever seen. I wonder if it was worked out with the interviewer beforehand or if he just decided to go with it. Effin' incredible. Woody's deadpan hurts my chest.

  • OMFG this guys sarcasm is fucking incredible :(

  • haha He's being such an asshole in this interview I love it

  • So Woody Allen was Sergei Eisenstein in another life?

  • Dave here, fwiw. Ten minutes is long time to keep one's tongue in one's cheek, especially while participating in a dialogue at the same time. Have enjoyed his monologues, the few times I've see or heard them. Sorry, but after the first couple of minutes this just becomes boring. Too obvious. I'm tired. Think I'll hit the hay.

  • Hysterical!

  • The interviewer sounds very much like Peter Cook.

  • I think it's obvious that the interviewer is playing along. Especially when he asks if the dialogue for Potemkin was "difficult to write".

  • I am sure he is aware.

  • Is this interviewer aware he's being completely lampooned?

  • @pretorious700 Of course. He's British. That sort of thing is in his cultural wheelhouse.

  • What's his talent really about?

  • Look at Jerry Rio, the interviewer in the Bloated Elvis video, Tell me he doesn't remind you of Woody Allen. Very funny and a must see for all Allen fans.

  • "numerals can descend in order, if placed properly"

  • Hilarious. Woody's fucking with this interviewer. . . it's like the interviewer has no sense of humour. :)

  • @utubeDaveutube the interviewer has to stifle laughter at several points. he is no way being fooled and woodys not trying to fool him

  • Hilarious. Woody's fucking with this idiot. :)

  • @ Greenhornet270 & GrandmasterScootty~ AMEN! xD

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Fuck Woody Allen!

  • @copperjones1915 what the hell?

  • It's not about something external. A Jewish person besides having a soul and a body to move into this world, have a divine soul. A soul that is part of G-d, a part of G-d that never changes. If you're a Jew, study chasidism and you'll learn more. Go to chabad website.

  • @belleketer since chabad is a pagan religion a chabad hasid lacks a nefesh yehudi.

was your mother Jewish or a chabad shiksa?

  • He is so frighteningly smart! I love him so much!

  • what's the name of the interviewer? I recognized his voice from a series of interviews he did in the 1960s with Cotswold farmers about country life.

  • potemkin lulz

  • how the hell can the interviewer not giggle or laugh. I could never meet woody Allen, I would embarrass him with my laughter.

  • First film in the 20's? He was born in the 30's, THAT's why I love this guy, funny like nobody's business.

  • looks he is acting Woody Allen

  • 9:04 - 9:13 highligt

  • greatest interview ever

  • "...I think I would like to found dead, face down, in the street." LMAO

  • his face at around 7:20 and all his answers makes it hard to believe there would be parts 2 3 and 4. gonna watch it all though just to see how much this reporter can be made fun of and just keep on asking this stupid kind of questions lol.

  • what's not to love.

  • is this an interview or a therapy session? "why is that ... why is that ... why is that ... why is that"

  • The interviewer? I'd wager by his voice it's Peter Cook, albeit with a slightly affected accent, and because there were few around to setup gags and play straight for a man with Woody's messerschmitt wit.

  • he's that naturally witty and quick. He can just come up with anything at the top of his head.

  • @Tigerlily21

    WHAT'S UP???

  • "I generally edit blindfolded."

  • Woody Allen = Genuis

  • in the year 2010 twenty five 25, Impressed by my credentials, she asked, "So, you're both a doctor AND a chef?" I replied, "Well, who do you think cured the ham?"

  • OMFG. This may be the most genius routine in history. Abbott and Costello and everyone else, sigh, and applaud.

  • SO HE'S VERY OLD YEARS AND MINUTES LATER

  • Oh my God. This is f-ing hilarious! So deadpan. I wonder if it was scripted.

  • Numerals can descend in order, if placed properly.

  • Impressively genius. I've loved many, if not all, of his films and it's great to see his very sarcastic, dry sense of humor in action.

  • Is the film he is talking about "Interiors"?

  • @TheWildcherry16 congratulations for entirely missing the point

  • Exactly 25 seconds....Legend.

  • How the heck does he do it with a straight face?

  • Who would even dare give this thumbs down?

  • THE MASTER!

  • There will never be another woody allen,a comic genius

  • The Woodman rules!!!

  • Drop of the hat wit. I know he himself has published writings, but why has nobody published a book of Woody Allen quotes, like they have with say Oscar Wilde or Winston Churchill?

  • "I generally edit blindfolded"!

  • Woody Allen --- maker of some of the funniest and most entertaining films in history (1969-1979).

Woody Allen --- maker of some of the most boring and unwatched films in history

    (1980 - present).

After racking up so much success in comedy, Woody got bored. That's why

he started making "serious" movies that only critics like Roger Ebert rave about.

  • @BRUC2016---- Serious movies like "Manhattan", "Crimes and Misdemeaners",

and "Hannah and Her Sisters" were all outstanding films.

  • @doowopbruce I consider "Manhattan" to be more humorous than serious.

It is certainly a great movie. I also enjoyed "Crimes And Misdemeanors".

But Allen also made a whole host of forgettable movies: Scenes From A Mall, Everyone Says I Love You, Melinda and Melinda, Hollywood Ending, The Curse Of The Jade Scorpion, and many, many other movies few people saw, except

    Roger Ebert.

  • @BRUC2016 --- Point taken.

  • @BRUC2016 Woody only acted in Scenes From A Mall; he didn't write or direct it.

I liked Curse Of The Jade Scorpion.

  • @kittyprydekissme Point noted. I am a Woody Allen fan (not

of his personal life, but of his professional career). Anyone who can attract

Scarlett Johansson, Mia Farrow, and Diane Keaton is alright by me.

    I'm completely jealous.

  • He's freestylin'

  • "Does criticism upset you?"

    "Uh, only negative criticism yes."

    Oh, my, that's dry.

  • Who is the interviewer? He's brilliant!

  • @willcollier01

hi, the interviewer is almost certainly Russell Harty.

  • The interviewer is such a dumbass...I can't tell wether Woody Allen is kidding or if that's what he really is like. He looks so fed up with that guy, like "Is this guy for real? He likes the credit titles?"

  • He's kidding. They're both kidding, its supposed to be ridiculous and terse and nonsensical. haha

  • @TheWildcherry16 --- ever hear the term "straight man"?

  • This is absolutely hilarious.

  • This can't be real. The questions must be predetermined. No one can be THAT witty!

  • genius!

  • is this for real

  • THE Interviewer is such a dork, he deserves the answers Woody gave him

  • One of the best interviews ever recorded, he's a GENIUS!!

  • hillarious

  • Possibly my favourite interview ever.

  • I generally edit them blindfolded lol

  • This is gold

  • Hilarious! ahahahahahhhahahah,,He is a genius, and incredible funny.. Specially when eh said when he is not crazy about happiness it is a mistake..ahahahaha lmaooooo..I love Woody!

  • ..."A film callled Potamkin".... dudehe was seriously pulling leg there, he did make that bloke laugh!

  • Comment removed

  • he is joking, man! he cant be bored!! come on!!

  • "I generally edit blindfolded." I LOL'd SO HARD

You also have to remember there was no digital editing back then at all, which I think makes the joke funnier today.

  • Comment removed

  • @jst1998 he is....you can here him giggling...he's just playing straight man

  • @jst1998

the interviewer is obviously trying rather hard not to laugh

  • i like anything squigley

  • @blahblahhuh1 Of course he's in on the joke! The whole thing is a spoof. Can you not hear the interviewer laughing?

  • The interviewer is not even listening to the answers.

  • It's much cheaper if you don't use people LOL

  • It's not Peter Cook or Barry Took.

  • Does anybody know whether this Peter Cook interviewing or Barry Took or who??

  • @pdpx7

it's either Russell Harty or an excellent Russell Harty impersonator.

  • "yes, but it was my camara, so there was very little that they could do about it.."

  • funniest man on the planet...a genius....

  • @Greenhornet270 ultimate absurdist

  • @Greenhornet270 he's a genius. have you seen play it again sam?

  • Absolutely hilarious. One of the greatest comedians to walk this Earth.

  • The more I watch this, the more I think it is a skit rather than a legitimate interview. This was probably devised by Peter Cook and Woody as a mock interview but put forth as a legit one just for the fun of it.

  • did the interviwerer really say about 2 and half minutes threw 'Thats mad'??????? sounds really strange from someone so posh.....
