Same thing as One Armed Bandit. The "best" oil goes last, and the spinning bearing is never changed. The last oil used always nets the best results, because the first two have bonded with the bearing under the heat. If RP went first, the results wouldn't be in its favor. Video is a scam.
those bottles look like Mobil 1 in the silver, and very likely Valvolines VR1 Racing Oil in the black one. 14 hr days of stocking various brands of oil onto store shelves does something to that kind of recognition lol...
This is a ridiculous pseudo-Scientific infomercial at best. If you don't trust the guy wearing the royal purple t-shirt telling you go waste another 10 minutes over at the falex website. If you have to order this purple SNAKE OIL offline and pay to ship how could it cost less than any other full synthetic on the shelf at your local store? A test against unnamed competitors. Why don't they do a real comparison with reps from the other company and less frame changes and falex rep to validate?
Careful, if one actually goes to falex.com, they will see that the "real" Falex Timken Extreme Pressure Test Rig is far more scientifically controlled and results repeatable when compared to the table top tester shown in this video. I'd encourage Royal Purple to step up to real independent scientifically repeatable testing at an accredited lab like SwRI for example. Anything else is marketing fluff.
what about at higher temperature? Are they same oil grade? I'm a huge fan of Royal Purple oil. Ive been using it for years. i don't think this test is fully representive.
@moonraker09 aww , well i was planning to use royal purple motor oil in my gt6 mk1 when i get one after passing the drivers license, with zinc additives :)
I don't recall ever seeing a Falex test for motor oil certification from the API, the ACEA, the ILSAC or any other vehicle manufacturer. These are fun to see at the county fair though.
And how do we measure in millimeters, have weights measured in pounds, and then get a pound per square inch result? At least convert your millimeters to inches to make it look like you know what you're doing. Otherwise, great video.
@madmestesoskillz I am merely replying to the presentation on the video. He gives a pressure reading in PSI which is pounds per square inch so apparently the demonstrator uses inches. If you did his math than you see that no conversion took place here. If you want kg/sq mm then a conversion must take place. It's really that simple.
At the point where the loaded arm(arm holding the weights) meets bearing arm(arm applying the bearing to the drive) there is a plastic adjuster screw. In the first test the screw is not able to be seen up close, and even intentionally obscured at times...... While in the last two tests it is clearly seen up close from multiple camera shots? Is it just me or is that how they compensated for the extra time the Royal Purple spent against drive under load, excellent lubricant it may be???
Sorry, I wont pay all that extra money for the purple dye. Also, put a guy who knows the PROPER way to pour oil from the bottle. That was pretty embarrassing watching a "Certified and trained professional" spill oil everywhere because he doesn't know to hole the oil bottle with the opening at the TOP when you pour it(try it and see how much less oil is spilled). And the Falex? I have a hard time taking advice from a machine that sounds like it has "fail" in the name. Could have called it Fail-X.
@jebova2301 I don't really care if the guy knows how to pour oil or not. The name of the bench test is not the main point here. If that is making you staying away from Royal Purple oil, you might stick with your brand and not blast the company for every detail that have no relation with the oil itself. We are looking at the oil performance. This test is not fully representative because of the temperature factor and the fact that we don't know the oil grade used in this test for each oil.
Royal Purple, Lucas Oil Stabilizer,K&N oil filter. I will drive my 20 year old Toyota truck (22re) across America coast to coast, and never pop the hood.
i think theres more to this video then we know... anyone can make there oil look like he best. all in how you make the video. im sold on Mobil 1 ive seen first hand its the best.
@Chrisjaldin Maybe name brand recognition? Chevrolet recommends Mobil 1 for the Corvettes, so Mobil 1 can then charge more, knowing most consumers will get what the car manufacturer recommends.

you didn't change the [mm] to [inches]. psi is [lb/in^2] this changes all calculations...

comparing walmart supertech oil to royal purple is a crappy comparison. should have compare it with Redline and Amsoil.
this is so bias.

I think heat should be factored into tests like this.

These were probably different weight oils. I.e. 0w-20 vs 20w-50 would be comparing Apples to Oranges.
