  • By changing her name she means she told Jesus he could make her over in his image...be reborn in Christ and leave her former self behind. The persecution she describes can be found in various instances in history...but the love of God and Christ overcomes all.

  • I love this song. I am not a Christian but to me it perfectly describes the commitment one must make to achieve any type of personal transformation. Very meaningful.

  • i love there are no youtube haters 38 likes and keep em comin lol

  • Lovin dis bring u down to tears

  • NOT,NOT THE ORGINAL VERSION!!!! The BEST version is on her "Little Girl Blue" album!!! Very stirring and Soulful!!!! I love Nina !!!! These are NOT original words!!

  • I think she means Changing her name from more of a biblical stand point then that of a slave stand point. God changed many peoples name throughout the Bible such as (Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, and Saul to Paul) as a way of stating that he was ready for them to begin doing his work. I always thought this song was a way of telling the Lord I am ready to do your work so by changing my name you are changing my very character.

  • Changing surnames was common amongst Freedman during Reconstruction. It was an assertion of independence and a rejection of the names of the former slave holder, who may have been the land owner on the land which they sharecropped risked losing work.

  • I wonder what she means by "changing her name". What change could be so drastic that would make a person go hungry and be hated by the hole world?

  • thanks 4 posting, very nice.

  • omg this really touched me
