  • Florida, i say Flordia, they won back to back right?

  • Difference between Florida and UNC is that Florida did it twice with the exact same guys and UNC did it twice with two completely different teams. That being said, KU beat Florida the year they won their second title and well KU destroyed UNC's best a year before UNC won their second.

  • I wouldnt count on calling any team the best this decade until this year it out, considered its pretty much between KU and UNC and KU happens to be pretty heavy favorites to win the title...so until its all said an done in 09-10 ill hold judgement.

  • Youth is only an excuse when you lose like UNC did big time back in 2002 and 2003. KU's youth not only won their conference but made it to the NCAA tourney and defeated the 2 time champions Florida. A product of KU being Dean Smith brought UNC to the heights it maintained. And when/if KU and UNC play again they will most likely bring up the pounding KU gave UNC in 2008 before any other game. And one of those games UNC beat KU,When Roy Williams was at KU there was a major big game chokefactor.

  • Youth isn't an excuse. If it was do you think KU would have made the tourney in 2006 and also winning the Big 12? If youth is your excuse in 2002, what about 2003? Frank McGuire was certainly an entity I give you that and triple OT in 1957 is beyond incredible. But people remember the Dean Smith era for a reason and if I remember he won a championship as a player somewhere... And until UNC proves otherwise, KU's best today is far superior to UNC's best today as the 2008 thrashing demonstrated.

  • Well if we're going to go that route, KU beat Florida's two time Championship team with Freshmen and Sophomores in 2006. And made it to the Elite 8 in 2007 as well. Thrashed UNC hard in 2008. Since the year after KUs 1988 championship team has KU missed an NCAA tourney, nope. I believe UNC did not make the tourney in what 2002 and wow 2003, so they didn't really build on beating KU in that pre season tourney... UNC is basically an offshoot of KU anyways. I ran out of characters.

  • KU made it to the Final 4 twice in the early 2000s when UNC was nowhere to be found and won it all in the late 2008 including a crushing win against UNC in the Final 4. And don't get me started with Duke. The fact that they are number 4 on your list is just irksome I'm sure we can agree on that.

  • Duke and Kentucky were also involved in some memorable games. Even though UNC vs. Illinois could have been a spectacular game it was pretty forgettable. And you're correct UNC had some great success, no one can argue against two championships. You'd think getting killed by KU the way the were killed in the 2008 Final Four would mean something too. I don't know it's a pretty circular and endless argument.

  • Team = roster of players. 2 different rosters = 2 different teams. Maybe if it had been called Basketball School of the 2000s or something. I guess if being as crappy as UNC was in the early 2000s factors into their decision, maybe as team who was down in the dumps and came back to prominence, then yes go them. Whereas a team like KU never faltered that bad, I think you get my point.

  • Florida did it with 1 "Team" hence "TEAM" of the 2000s. Get it? But considering how bad UNC was they deserve it for bouncing back. KU may not have won 2 championships this decade but they didn't get near as bad as Carolina, shouldn't that count for more? I guess if you're Duke you can win as many games as you want just not important ones. Just out of curiosity, who decided these teams anyway?

  • Team of the 2000s? Or team of the mid to late 2000s? Or team that got their asses handed to them by KU in 2008 when everyone thought KU didn't have a chance? I think the team of the 2000s was Florida for winning it back to back. But once again the same ol' ACC bias. I bet Duke came in 2nd right?

  • Yea, everyone returning and a forgettable post season overall. And you're right UNC has beaten KU when it counted, but never a slaughter quite like that.

  • Yea, UNC really did let it B-Ball program fall to shit for a while. But at least the 8-20 was only that one forgettable season. But at least you've got a coach you now know for sure can win it all with his own recruits even if they can't beat a caliber team such as KU when it counts. Being a UNC fan you'll have to tell me how Carolina let themselves get trounced against KU in 2008.

  • 8-20 isn't hitting rock bottom unless it's for multiple seasons. And of course the school has a lot to do with how good a team is. And a good recruiting line for a school that has been to the cellar and beyond is something along the lines of "how would you like to be the one that brought blank back to where it used to be." I agree it's a mixture, but a lot of player would pick a KU, UNC, UCLA, or UK over other schools, although these days it's a lot about playing time too, so damn selfish lol.

  • You're right about Kentucky and UCLA, they got pretty bad. Like I said it's a mixture of good coaching and the school itself. I don't know why you're arguing with that point. And UNC never hit rock bottom per say. They had a a couple of bad seasons due to injuries. Coach Daugherty never got a fair shake if you ask me but that's a whole different issue. UCLA is almost back where it needs to be, UK, we'll see how the Memphis scandal plays out to see if Jim Calipari is legit or a cheater.

  • So you're seriously going to use that as your argument? If that had happened at any other school they would have been in the pits for a longer while. And I will say Roy Williams had a lot to do with keeping the program away from disaster, but at the same time it's KU.

  • I know and I agree. But you have to admit he didn't really have to do any rebuilding job at KU and he probably would have elsewhere. Although the pressure was high, he had an easier job that he would have at some small college in the middle of nowhere. Bill Self rebuilt Oral Roberts and Tulsa and had great success at Illinois before coming to Kansas. He was on both Eddie Sutton and Larry Brown's staffs too.

  • And you're the perfect example of why people think Carolina fans are low class.

  • Like I said before, both schools have had a huge impact on one another. And I can guarantee you that the KU fans that still possess their childish hatred of Roy are the minority. We loved Roy and it hurt to see him leave. We KU fans, like UNC fans, think that KU is the center of the college basketball world and we didnt understand why he would want to leave, which he didnt want to leave, the simple fact is UNC was his home. Other than that I have nothing really to say except that I respect UNC.

  • I for one have yet to meet any KU fan that is jealous of UNC. I wouldn't want to root for or be apart of any other university. We Jayhawks are Jayhawks for life and it's the greatest feeling in the world and I know you Tar Heel fans feel the same way. This game meant a lot because we beat ole Roy, who I personally respect. I do not understand how you think we're jealous of UNC or any other school for that matter.

  • Somebody a little upset about the video or is it that time of month?

  • Oh how wrong u r a 1 year wonder. UNC most all time tournament wins most all time final 4. And then there is the 4 NCAA titles. KU watchin the final 4 on TV this year UNC kicked the big 12 in the balls this year !

  • Good one, what would you call our ass whippin we laid on you? Wow you have 4 NCAA titles, we have 3 NCAA titles and two Helms national championships

  • UNC has 5 NCAA titles and 1 Helms national championship. Sit down and shut up.

  • I never debated that, you said KU was a one year wonder, I think the numbers tell a different story. We're right there with you and if we have a great year next year with a great team we'll be even closer. And by the way, who gave you all those championships and victories, oh that's right, KANSAS JAYHAWKS. Sit down and shut up.

  • Dean Smith is the only Jayhawk that has coached at UNC--that's 2 of our 5 NCAA titles. Larry Brown and Roy Williams are NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS. Larry Brown got you 1 of your 3 NCAA titles. Look's like KU owes it's history to UNC as much as the other way around.

  • And I agree with you, I think our universities are practically sister schools, or at least our basketball programs are. We're very intricately connected with one another.

  • If Roy hadn't coached at KU do you really think he would have been able to win it all at UNC twice like he did? He became the coach he was because KU gave him the opportunity.

  • champions and david cook wow

  • 2008 national champions jayhawks are best team in country

  • Probably the best team in history. They are the only team to have won the Final 4 when all the number 1 seeds were in it! I'm not really including John Wooden teams though, that's a whole different level..

  • got tht right

  • YES I WAS THERE!!!

  • can't wait to play memphis!
