Correct. I believe that Cher's lawyers took out an injunction on behalf of her minge, and in all subsequent broadcasts (and the DVDs etc), it was M. Ciccone's minge that became the destination.
Probably the best thing about this video is that every single character is played by the same person, and yet you probably don't even notice that on first viewing because it's not even the joke.
Has anyone got any idea what song is playing during the Ian Curtis bit? It sounds a bit like Ned's Atomic Dustbin but I can't think what song it might be :(
...if you don't like Rap, this record won't convert you, but if you listen to and understand the song words, and the message in them... well, make your own mind up.
This is brilliant comedy. Only neg I'd give it, is that it reinforces the association between Rap and Gangsta, which is mostly a reference to a single recording, Ice-T's "Cop Killer". An because of this, and the fact that many Americans are only exposed to black music through Rap, it makes for a very quick and easy relationship between black people, hatred and violence: An unfortunate combination. You Tube "Grandmaster Flash The Message"...
@vapourmile To be fair though, the rappers themsleves (and their popularity) are the only ones who can be blamed with that kind of association. Ice-T looks fairly tame in comparison with some of the ones knocking about today, and it has become a whole lot more popular among mainstream audiences.
There are a lot of comments here complaining about the Ian Curtis send-up, but what about portraying Sinéad O'Connor as an ostrich - it's a bloody bloody disgrace! As an ostrich lover I find it deeply offensive, and will be writing to my bishop about it immediately.
This kind of reminds me of when you had MTV Europe in the UK, sitting in the pub at lunchtime and and some advert would come on in German or French and for 30 seconds you could imagine you were in a another country.
I seem to remember that the Rok TV segments on The Day Today were bits they allowed Morris to write and produce by himself (unlike the rest of the show that was written by Iannucci, Baynham and the cast) which is why he plays all the characters.
jeez this is magic, seen it million times but gets better and better, for me, this rok tv segment is greatest comdey character acting i've ever seen. chris does everyone, every1 perfectly also. day today is best tv show ever!! FACT!!
@TheCAPTAINDESTROYER I know - the presenters, the Cobain, the rappers, the Jarvis Cocker and the words themselves, e.g. "Once a month, you become a slave/To a tidal wave". Just so well performed/written. Man is Chris Morris impressive.
Musical parodies are the best. Rok TV is my fave Day Today sketch. MTV Europe in the 90s impression is spot on. Esp the awkward English. The Rolling Stone commentators uber-cool response to Fur-Q is hilarious. Such astute humour.
It's original footage. They also recently discovered that "Cop Killer" (originally thought to be written by Ice T) was in fact composed for the organ in 1729 by J.S. Bach, with the first recorded performance being at the inauguration of Pope Clement XII in 1730.
Chris Morris is every TV company's worst nightmare, he's like a loose canon. The fact that even Channel 4 had trouble handling his innovative style shows just how clever this guy is. Just wish there was a broadcaster with enough guts to give him a voice again!
acturly kurt, krist and dave were shown this in a interview and they all just laughed and kurt said i think we should do that. i cant find the interview on here but im pretty sure it was on youtube where i saw it
I have this on VHS from the first time it was broadcast and the end shot was originally going up Cher's vagina. On this version it's Madonna. Must have been copyright issues somewhere along the line.
I think it's hypocritical to laugh at everything that isn't personal to you, then get offended by one part of it, like the Ian Curtis skit.
Either it's all OK to laugh at, or none of it is OK.
It's about tolerance and not taking things too seriously. You can't have a go at people for missing the point with the paedeo special, then get all high and mighty when he mocks one of your heros.
It's a fact of life some things WILL offend you. What you need to do is learn to tollerate, because there will be things you like that offend other people too. Instead of climbing on high horses and protesting, people should learn to understand that being offended is a part of life, and you have NO right whatsoever to not be offended. That is real freedom. It's a better solution than censorship and mind-policing.
You have the right to be offended, just not to chastise others for not being offended.
You can't tell someone they have no right to be offended and then say it's a better solution than mind-policing...because that's effectively what you are suggesting.
