@wannaknowit While modern & contemporary are synonyms, there are differences in the dance styles. Modern came first and was based on ballet - it has specific rules and steps and is uses lines shapes and angles of the body. Contemporary developed from modern, but is more interpretive - with elements of jazz and lyrical, allowing the dancer more expression of emotion thru the music.
