osx is a derivative of ubuntu. if you want to experience all the potential macintosh is trying to achieve, it is much better to stick to what is tried and true: the ubuntu unix system.

No, OS X is based on Unix where Ubuntu is based on Linux. Unix is more strict than Linux. In a way Unix is better, but develops slower.

OS X does borrow many opensource softwares or their ideas (you may think they belong to linux world. Partially correct). Recently, they want to steal the idea of Gnome shell. Watch out, Jobs won't give due credit. Of course, opensource communities also steal ideas from Apple.

I see Linux as a system in between OS X and Windows. It seams kinda stupid to download it when you can fill in the blanks with XP or Windows 7. Unless you want to just try it, or just have all 3 at once

You may be missing the point... consider the question who installs microsoft xp free or otherwise.

Linux takes you up to the next level in computer use good luck it's a steep learning curve but can be fun.

I tried it with bootcamp its really difficult. You get an irremovable partition and a lot of problems. If there's an easier way, or a way to remove the partition without the bootcamp assistant, please tell me/show me.

yes there is... just download the file which is a .ISO file and in vmware fusion select new and continue without disk..

Linux made my mac crash about three months ago

so I deleted it

you can even tripple boot into OS X, Mac, XP

which is what I was doing, but its harder to tripple boot than dual boot.

it was probably the filesystem.

if you have 2 partitions, one windws and one linux on the same hardrive it will eventually crash. mac and linux will have the same problem
