They got David Niven by telling him Peter Sellers would be in it, then got Sellers by telling him Niven would be in it. Among the many problems with the movie was the fact that Sellers was the star with top billing but Niven was James Bond.
This film is dreadful, sadly as a huge Sellers fan, there is very little redeemable comment to make.
The film had upwards of 5 directors due to Sellers behaviour on set, and this is reflected in the fact that the film makes no sense at all, and that characters appear and disappear with no explanation. Shame really.
@arganusai I thought that the choppiness of the film was one of the attributes that made it distinct. It didn't have to make any more logical sense than the scientist on a "Superfriends" cartoon; it seemed as if it were improvised as it was filmed. The vibrant, over-the-top character of this film earned it's place in my collection of fine films..
For Peter Sellers, there was one scene where over 300 extras were hired and he didn't show up for filming. They terminated his obligation for that.
Casino Royale (1967) was the only one comedy-spoof film about legendary James Bond. And it wasn't disappointing. It is a wonderfully weird, bold, funny and incoherent mess of a movie. I love this film plus it was great to see sex symbol of the 60's Ursula Undress.
They could never make another movie like this again now.
