  • I just got an instrument called a kuwal, it's similar to the nay but not the same. Do I do this to produce sound?

  • do u play the turkish ney? what's the difference?

  • @lovellespice I don't play turkish ney, it is very different sound, playing stye and embouchure. turkish neys also have a mouthpiece added on called the buspareh. persian ney you have to place the ney inbetween your teeth (interdental) and is considered considerably harder to play by most flute players. Turkish and arabic neys use a method similar to blowing across a bottle to produce a sound. hope this is helpful!

  • i was wondering...i just got a ney, i've been making some sounds with it but theres a couple different tones Im getting....the one that i get most often is kind of like a whistle, a high pitch one...and less frequently i get a LOW whistle kind of sound, kinda like your blowing into a bottle...which one is the actual sound supposed to be tho is my question? ....

  • @TagTeamMusic1 good question. the higher pitch you are hitting is either the zir, ghees, or pas-ghees. when you get that very low sound you are in the bam register. to get the bam you use a larger stream of air (the back of your tongue is more relaxed and lays lower). to get the higher registers (zir is the next after bam), you have to get a more concentrated stream of air and you can get this by pushing the back of the tongue closer to the roof of the mouth. I will post video explaining.

  • @puyaabbassi thanks alot, its pretty easy to get the high pitch one the bam register seems more difficult....its hard to get a "beefy" sound for me....i noticed it makes a hell of a difference the more you relax your jaw, it improved my sound production like crazy

  • @TagTeamMusic1 the new video will be posted momentarily its just loading right now, keep an eye out

  • YOU HAVE ALOT OF GREAT INFO. I WISH I COULD HEAr it more .

  • hi

could you write the name of home page to see the tutorial please

  • does it really have to fit all the way up to my gum? My teeth have a very small gap...

  • @Pefetz6 it doesnt have to go all the way up the gum, but the farther up you get it the better control you have making the sound. If your front teeth have a very small gap, then I'd recommend using a thinner plastic mouthpiece, and definately DON'T use the metal sari. You can technically produce the sound without having the ney between your teeth at all, thats how I initially started producing sound, however this method makes it much more difficult and will not produce as clean of a sound.

  • THANK YOU!!!!! this was very helpful! as soon as i licked my lips, I began to produce the sound!

  • thank you for these instructions! i have a turkish ney- do you know of any places i can search for guidance in getting a sound out of that? blessings.

  • @arimoshe I wish i had more expertise on the turkish ney, but the methodology and embouchure are very different. the sari has to be blown into with a sideways blow which is rather different from the persian neys and i'm not familiar with the proper way of doing this. i'm sorry i can't be of more help.
