@GayBoyRunning - yes, thats true.... this train is long for this area..... this is a congested area wih lots of turns, grades, etc... and trains are not usually extremely long here...... in the midwest us, trains are longer because of the flat, wide open terrain. it's true that the us is somewhat behind in the full utilization of trains!
As the train is approachkng, just up the Potomac River to the right of the locomotives about 1/3 mile is the abandoned ex Western Maryland mainline, which parallelled this ex B&O line in this area. Abandoned since '75, when the WM was taken over by CSX predecessor Chessie System.
@sapankhwai Thanks for the comment. Freight trains especially progress via radio (walkie-talkie). Regularly calling in their position, and getting instructions about speeds, switching, etc...
ha ha that coal train is tiny compare our Australian coal trains. Do remember Australia hauls the longest frieght trains & trucks on earth.

That's one of the very few time I've seen an EMD locomotive smoke that much! Usually it's some old GE unit.

Glad you caught the signal changing!
Interesting that it briefly flashed yellow before red.
My favorite signal - color AND position.
What is the meaning of the high clear signal?
Where was the grade crossing?
Thank you for your video.

Really nice spot! Neat. Spectacular example of complex B&O signaling. And the scanner too. Thanks.

So long train of wagons, it's not thought in narrow Japan in the country !!
Isn't there timetable, though it communicates by the walkie-talkie?
Sorry my broken English,
