I really like Delta-wing fighters. The Mirage 2000 and Mirage III (as well as the dozens of varians of it) are truly wonderful aircraft. I also like the Rafale almost as much as I like the Super Hornet and Tomcat. Carrier Fighters FTW. Mirage FTW. Too bad they didnt make a carrier-based Mirage III.
well, the first *successful* delta-winged fighter was the MiG-21. but as far as aircraft with delta wings, the Mystere Delta prototype, the F-102 Delta Dagger, and the A-4Skyhawk predate it by a couple of years. But as far as a truly successful fighter, then yes the MiG-21 was the first.
While there is a lot of aestetic appeal in a delta (especially a tailless delta like the Mirage III), that's not the reason. They are a technological marvel. They manage to provide a solid high-speed, high altitude service envelope with minimal drag. At the same time, they are very durable and can hold a lot of weight and internal fuel. Since they have ample surface area, they allow good maneuverability at higher speeds too. They were used for more than one generation too: Eurofighter and Rafale
Not all such clearly, about your arguments. I will try to send you my view later, sorry. I like oponents like you, who has typical for YouTube arguments, another then: "one is better then two, because it is better forever or it is my"! Thanks.
@l3attlel2oyal Well, considering the number of Western countries that used it, as well as the impressive combat record achieved by the Israeli Defense Forces in the 60s and 70s, I would say yes. While the MiG-21 was very widely used and built in huge numbers, it only brought limited success in actual combat.
@brtshstel Yeah, plus the Soviet attrition-oriented wartime doctrine for which they designed their aircraft and trained their pilots was kind of disadvantageous to any one type achieving impressive stats. The Warsaw Pact air forces were comfortably convinced that they could defeat NATO with overwhelming numbers, in spite of relying largely on more dated aircraft. It was thus not the MiG's fault that its ratio was less impressive, as it was routinely up against more advanced aircraft in combat.
@brtshstel Western aircraft have, as is, never faced any MiG type in combat under actual, Third World War conditions which would have existed in Europe had the Cold War escalated (primarily, under conditions of there being many, many, many more MiG aircraft in the air than western types). Interestingly, however; Egyptian MiG-21 defeated Libyan MiG-23 in one of their earlier scuffles... the Fishbed's agility making it the better dogfighter (the Flogger, more an interceptor).
Mig 21 was not first delta or even successful delta . The delta wing Avro Vulcan Bomber flew first in 1952 and its development A/C the Avro type 707 flew in 1949 at least. Other early deltas are the Gloster Javelin that first flew in 1951 and the Fairey Delta 2 which flew in 1954 and broke world speed record in 1956 at 1132 Mph. However if you take the flying wing as a type of delta then the Horten wings of wartime Germany must be the first deltas.
Hum a A-10 tank buster that killed every one and not just the bad guys!, It should not be on this list, Or though i will agree with the Tornado and lighting well done!, And Piloottje2344321 forgot the Hurrican that won the battle of Briton...
great vid although i have my doubts about the fact all the aircraft in this vid are legends. if you talk about aircraft which are legendary i would think about things like the red baron, sopwith camel, spitfire,p-47 thunderbolt, p-38 lightning, p-51 mustang, f-86 sabre, mig-21 english electric and things like that
Great vid but I don't like the Su-47 because all you have to do is clip its wings and it will go down otherwise its a great plane and the Su-37 ( it had to many problems) great job on the vid though.
Extraordinarily bad background music...the singer should be put out of his misery...hell, put him out of MY misery! Cool planes, though.

The prototype of Mig-21 (with delta wing) was E-4 - first flight 16 of june, 1955
When F-102 (I don't know)?
Why do you like delta - aesthetics?
It used for one plane generation only.
