@2Slipperman Thanks for the question. I'm not a big fan of changing keys, because my ears are such that I hear the correct notes in my head. Having to learn something in a different key actually messes up my muscle memory, especially when it's something that has been in my brain for years and years. Thanks for the compliment though. I have a similar range to Jon, and when I was younger, i was always compared to him, so I actually started trying to NOT sound like him anymore!!
@2Slipperman As far as falsetto goes, I don't usually sing in falsetto and neither does Jon. It's in my natural range to hit higher notes (like the one at the very end of Heart of the Sunrise - "city..." goes to a high D, and I just "squeeze 'em and go for it." I CAN sing falsetto, but for stuff like this, I sing it the way I hear it, and if Jon didn't do falsetto, then I don't either. It's amazing how the brain remembers things without consciously thinking of them!
I'm so far behind in responding to all of you. I am so touched by the amazing comments. I hope I can continue to share my love of this music with you all.
Great job Ian, especially with the voices, a better than passable imitation of Gabriels different characterizations / accents. That was a treat to listen to. Well Done.
Awesone Ian!!! Brilliant! As gazzo45 here below said, you just captured the essence of that song... fantastic interpretation! Looks like I found someone who's even more crazy about early Genesis than me LOL! Cheers :)
Genesis at the time of recording this piece ('73) were a brilliantly talented five-piece band. You, an individual, have totally captured the essence of the song superbly - and all on an upright acoustic piano! And I love the vocals too. Absolutely outstanding stuff, Ian!
Thanks to you 3 for being the first people on earth to see this video... even before I did!! (I was watching a movie while it was uploading and just lost track!)
I appreciate all the lovely comments. Thanks so much.
this is such a great song (and cover)

Hey Ian!
I have a question that s in my head for several weeks....
Will you do all these covers (mainly Genesis and Yes's) within the original key?
If it is (and it seems so) its pretty defying. When covering Jon Anderson, sometimes it looks like you go to falsetto? Am i correct?
Thanks!

Outstanding rendition! Remembering the lyrics is just a tour-de-force per se but playing the whole piece while singing it... unbelievable.

One final comment - the only way you can top this is to perform 'Supper's Ready' next - on an Iranian nose flute...

"You're telling me!" hahaha. Nice cover Ian. You've captured the manic chaos and surrealism of one of my fave Genesis tracks. Thanks Ian. =)
