I grew up watching the 101, went to their summer band camps, watched most of my band mentors go there and they're one of my fav bands. Yet I marched 4 yrs for USC. USC would edge SCSU on sound quality and roundness/fullness of tone. SCSU has far better DISCIPLINE, showmanship, and precision. The mentality of a college corp style band is to support the football team. Show bands are the game's focus. So USC doesn't have the same pride and heart that SCSU does, but they're still a strong band.

First of all, utmost respect for the 101 and the entertainment they bring. Had a lot of friends there when I marched USC's drumline... That being said...the fact that the announcer (for the past two years, at least boasts that the "greatest? band in South Carolina is now in Columbia" is the biggest sign of disrespect when visiting a school and it's band. This is the SAME show/drill I saw in October LAST YEAR. We do new shows every 3 weeks. Flat,Sharp,who cares as long as you dance right?
