Wow, so sad, RIP BJS. This song makes my all my hairs stand on end, have not heard this for 35 year, what a great song, C/W, Pop, AC just a great tune.
Just saw her tonight on her 2011 Ladies of Country Tour in the UK, at Tunbridge Wells. Her voice is still huge but there's next to nothing left of the lady herself. She doesn't look too well I'd say, so get to see her while you can.
This song made me cry...even more poignant when sung by someone whose blanket days are long behind them...

@daydayhayday Yes, sadly, this lady is, well, frail. How gutsy, though, to keep touring and performing (so well). Like kjdiva99 I sincerely hope she appears soon in the US. There aren't too many of her talent left around.
I was 13 when this song was #1 on the charts in '75. I loved it then and love it even more today. I would sell the devil my soul to see her perform live. Hope she can find some dates to do here in the states. I'd drive miles and days to see her!!!
This great South Texan is still performing (2011), even in her seventies and despite various health issues, mainly in the UK, especially Northern Ireland. For those in the area, don't miss her May 2011 appearances in Middlesborough, Skegness and Grantham. I sure wish I could see even one of them! One of the nicest people on the planet.

This song, along with a few by The Kendalls, and Queen of the Silver Dollar by Dave and Sugar, then throw in Johnny Duncan and Janie Fricke along with a little Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. Now add a touch of George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Reba Macentire and you have the recipe for Pure Country Music!
Flush this fake crap they call country today down the crapper!
what a band.......the sting pulling on the guitar, the dope roe (spelling) combined with the juice harp~~ makes this a complete song. Best singing and guitar I have ever heard..................
I grew on this great music and had the pleasure of meeting BJS three times. One of the best shows ever and one of the nicest people on this planet. Still love the lady and her music.
I shot the video for this song, all the patrons were told to go about their activities as the producer wanted a natural feel to the song,i think it came of well, jim kins the lightin director is seen dancing and so are the camera men and stage hands,it was a great night and a great shoot, great song.

This is an infuriating video. Only a handful of people in the "audience" are even LOOKING at her, let alone actually listening to this major talent. I almost feel sorry for Billie Jo here....she may as well be singing to a pack of canines at a dog shelter.
And, as someone else pointed out....those "cowboy" hats must have all been purchased at The Dollar Store!
LMFAO - Great song but the film clip/party - whatever that was stole my attention. Couldn't have created anything funnier if they tried. The girl in the polka dot dress filmed at the start - Wow, clearly her fav song.
I think it's about 30 years ago now I saw B.J. during a live TV-performance of her in Holland and I assume this clip is from that event. We all got from those silly cowboy-hats on and we had to clap all the time. There were also those bull-thing etc. It was an triangle stage with one camera at the front. We had also a major shortcut during here performance.
Doc, wouldn't say disabled, just a bad dancer..Used to and still see lots of folks like that around..she's having a good time though..have to also agree Captain a bit on this, that the folks in this video look a bit off in some ways..Billie Jo sure can sing though..
we have just been to see her and she was and is still fab, her voice not mimed was as good as it could get so stop ripping her off! she will live forever
The only thing crap about her live performance's in the UK were the local, hard to front, back up groups. The voice live or studio belongs in the top 20 of all time pre-rock-infiltrated country singers and may someday find that place.
A truly great song from a genuine country artist. But I got a terrific kick out of the video even though the quality is bad. Especially from the young girl in the pink skirt and white hat dancing her guts off. Do you see who I mean? She shows up early in the video and then again towards the end. She is having such a great time that it lifts my spirits considerably. Thanks for posting this.
It is strange because Billie Jo is lip synching to her own recording..in a live setting..like a country version of 'American Bandstand'...still a good song though
this is the weirdest video i have ever seen. I could write a thesis on this music video. It is bizarre. However, a great song. The overall feel of the cinematography and acting reminds me of the movie Troll 2.
What do you think is weird about this video? I think it's great with Billie Jo singing her big hit and the audience actually paying attention to her. To me, it looks like the show is in a place like Billy Bob's but of course I don't know where it took place. Billie Jo is a real doll and the first time I saw her sing this 20 years ago she had the cutest dimples. A fantastic voice and great song. Thank you coockies for posting. - Paula
boy they got some ringers in this video.Check the gal out on :35 and again at 1:11..Boy does she look like she's having a great time or what? Geez..Man, the gal at 2:52 is really rockin' out..that's how to do it..This song reminds me of the Urban Cowboy a whole lot..I think what Ned999 says is true..Sure like a sale was going on with the big ass hats..Course that's how it was back in the day...Goofy people rockin' to a great two-step tune like this.
I was lucky enough to meet BJS when I was 17 yrs old. She is one of the nicest people ever and funny to boot. This song brings back some great memories. :)

Well, since she's 71, now, born Jan 14, 1937, I'd say it's at least 20 years old, maybe?

ema19us. Thanks a bunch for the info. I didn't know she was 71 now. I figured maybe she was about my age of 62 or so. What a joy to hear her again.

Billy Jo Spears sings "Blanket on the Ground" much better than Rory Emerald and Dolly Parton. Thanks for posting awesome video and song. Happy 2008 New Year!
