  • he plays the guitar like a Boss...

  • 2 people dont have they jumpers hangin on the line

  • @ragu0686 i wonder how long it takes before people realise comments like that just aren't funny.

  • My favorite RL song. Love this man. Wish id been born a little earlier dammit.

  • My all time favorite RL tune right here. Those Kansas boys Moreland & Arbuckle really tear it up big time. Witnessing them break it down with Dustin Arbuckle's blazing harp work is incredible.

  • Who is disliking this ?!

  • from 1978 to 1984 in a couple of clicks@c . Wow@AGE

    younger-electric :: older-acoustic.

    so wots goin' on here@peeps??

you can have your gear/everything. RL cant b beat.

    happy 2011+ to ALL/none

  • I listen to this, and I realize how much contemporary music has lost.

  • i wish i could just play what he does with his fore finger !

  • You know you are the best if you can play and make it look easy, R.L. Burnside proves it.

  • :DDD

  • A fine lesson to all the stupid white blues musicians who spend most of their time talking about expensive and hard to find guitars... They are full of shit. They belong to Shania Twain or Hanna Montana. "A custom Gibson, a rare Stella, a $30, 000 dollars Olson." Faggots motherfuckers. As soon as some stupid jerk stars to talk about vintage guitars you know something is rotten... R. L. Burnside is great.

  • @biologias3 HaHa yeah i sort of have to agree - though it seemsa bit loaded & angry how you putit over = i mean the only people those people are fooling are themselves so - no harm done anywhere elsewhere really !

  • nobody plays the riffs this man plays . What a genius! I finally found the sound I'm lookin for . the problem is it 'll take me a lifetime to play like that. Definitely the best acoustic blues I've ever heard . absolutely!!!

  • GODDAMN! I said GODDAMN!

  • Who´s the man? R.L. is the man! He is the one you will never forget.

  • the blues - play what you feel, fuck music theory

  • Maybe this video will help....The channel is .."ncroson".....Name of video is "burnside slide tuning"...Apparently RL's son Daniel showed this guy the tuning.........Rest in Peace R.L

  • Its in Open A same as Poor Black Mattie

  • @MixmasterAce its in standard tuning

  • @skint0n0minted and MixmasterAce and others asking about the tuning: I'm 99.9% sure it's low to high E B D G B E. Try it.

    I

  • @caintuck2 I was so sure yesterday about that 5th string tuned to B, but I was wrong. I concur with others that it's standard tuning.

  • @caintuck2 Its definitely standard tuning, but this is the only time where the pitch is accurate. I've listened on several other recordings and videos of this same song and he always seems to be sharp or flat. That might be what is causing confusion for people. The rhytm pattern is very tough to duplicate. I've been working on it about a week now and I'm close but still lacking a bit.

  • @Chaduke The Man is playing a whole drum kit on an acoustic guitar! I've been working on it too for a while, not so much to copy this tune; just to incorporate The Man's whole rhythm/groove thing into my own playing. Good luck to us both; we'll need it. Is it the thumb or the index with the back of the nail on the off beats? Oh well, back to the woodshed...

  • @caintuck2 Thanks for reminding me to get back on this, I haven't practiced it for a while. I actually learned it both ways, and to me the nail sounds better on most guitars because its got a high pitch, but I really think he's using his thumb and just has some crazy callous on it. I built mine up but it took a while and I still couldn't get the sound like I wanted. The notes are all correct, and the swing rythm is good, but the volume and timbre of the notes sound a little off.

  • @MixmasterAce It took me 2 days to try and match that tuning. For me, I had to tune to E flat, THEN tune to open A. Nice ear my friend. Very nice. PEACE and MUSIC!

  • un bon coup de jumping blues, un café, une orange pressée et ma journée va démarrer oh yeahhh !

  • sweet !!

  • this is standard tuning. he likes spanish open G, but this is straight up. mind-bending genius in any tuning ;-)

  • I'm not sure about open G, to me you can see his fingers on the Em chord and the sound is Em. I dunno I could be wrong, I'm not trying to start yet another dumb youtube flame war.

The rhythm is all off the picking pattern and the muting. You can get a decent approximation by just thumb picking down on each eighth note and then using your first finger on the upstrokes where they fall. I think that's basically what he's doing. Then do that for about 30 years until you sound like R.L. :)

  • Maybe a bit late, but it's in open g, as most of his songs..

  • So is this standard tuning or is it in some open one? O_O

  • I'm pretty sure it's standard.

  • if this doesn't make you ache, you ain't no bluesman.

  • does anyone know the tuning?

  • Open G pretty sure.

  • i think its standard

  • def standard....and its a hard one to nail!

  • def not standard do you even play guitar?

  • no I have no idea what a guitar even looks like, thats why I commented. Its standard because it IS in standard, not open G or E....standard! Its a simple em chord he's playing off.

  • Mowaxbro is correct. Sorry, fooboy.

  • Isn't this track called 'Jumper On The Line'? Its great, whatever its called.

But I prefer the band version from the album 'Burnside on Burnside' - check out Kenny Brown's BRILLIANT slide-guitar solo! Mesmerising!

  • Hmm haven't heard that one but I really like this one.. The lyrics, rhythym & and all

  • Great stuff. I think RL is at his best when he play's alone. It grooves so gentle......

Thanks for the vid man or woman......

  • this is for all the cliche-lovers who think a blues player must be a sad and broken heart man

look at him laughin while he plays this incredible music hahaha!

    thanks for this post !!!

ojalá todos los idiotas que se repajean con SRV viesen a este grande para aprender lo que es el blues!

  • Acoustic Stories

    RC Records RC0034 1989

These videos are from that recording session...

  • Is he playing a classical guitar? Can't tell. Awesome video!

  • nope.

  • he's playing an epiphone. cheap steel strings. I'd trade one of my martins for it:)

  • Its not the guitar bro, its the man who's playin it. The best music can be made with the poorest quality instrument if it is in the hands of a master.

  • well you can't do that with gut strings or the classical set up. and nobody said that epiphone was poor quality--just regular quality:)

  • @barker747 good remark @barker747. "its the singer, not the song."

  • @barker747 Many words are written but, very few will understand the ones you wrote.

  • hey i don't think that is a classical kinda looks like it has a slotted headstock but that doesn't always mean it's a classical guitar, classical guitars have a wider neck...

  • this is just sick...love to watch him smile while he's playing such a heavy groove....he makes it look so easy, but it's difficult to replicate....love rl

  • burn baby

  • I am so sad that alot of these Blues men (& women) from Mississppi have passed away and most never got the recognition they deserved...

  • amen to that...

  • they got the soul & heart. if peoples are too stupid to understand how deep that music is, to bad for them, every days we livin' in a crazy person world, full of superficial peoples and stupidity, but every times i'm sitting here, watching, listening to guys like him, i remember that somewere in some places, theres are true peoples.

  • what is this FROM!!! I really want to buy the tape/dvd or whatever it is so I can watch in slo mo to learn how to play the tune.

  • I dont know what this is from but there is a dvd called deep blues and RL Burnside (along with many others ) are on it and yes hes playing this song (Jumper on the line)

its great if you love authentic blues music

  • @JojahBoy..... It's from a video on the Swingmaster label which has been out of print for a long time..... Thankfully it was re-issued this year on DVD and the title is "The Swingmaster Vintage Tapes - vol 1".

  • @TheSpottytoad Thanx for the 411...this stuff is gold.

  • simply wow !
