i don't understand why some christians balk at actually becoming the hands and feet of jesus ('fight injustice and oppression in the world) by calling it 'liberal ideology'. if all we needed was to be saved, we could all go home afterwards. i expect that if these folks encountered jesus in person today, they would find him too liberal!
@klunky and I expect that if you reread the words the Bible claims Jesus said, you would remember what he said to the pharisees' misunderstandings of the role of works and you'd probably soften your position.
@klunky No balking whatsoever. The problem lies when people think that by doing these actions, or works, that they are placing themselves in better standing with God. The only thing that can, and ever has been able to do that is faith in Jesus Christ, which is a "gift of God" - see Romans. This drawing is partially correct. Jesus didn't die so that we could make our planet better by living in peace and harmony with one another. He came to be the propitiation for sin.
@meeksalot Of course Jesus came to conquer death (sin) once and for all. And by doing so, He ushered in the Kingdom of God, which promises the renewal of all things - a new heaven and a new earth. The Kingdom of God has entered history, and is represented by us (the church), however imperfectly. If we do not live out the promise of the Kingdom, we are missing out on our real mission as believers. Kingdom work is not about currying favor with God, it is simply the embodiment of Christ on earth.
Very worthwhile contribution to refining and adapting this form. Appreciate that you try to clarify the decision elements. That's important. But make it one element, not four. Jesus calls people to believe, period. All the rest, including the two extras of community and mission, can be articulated as aspects or outflow of the one commitment to trust in Jesus. You can do that without falling into works salvation or two-stage conversion; it shows deep comprehension of the message. Larry Sittig
Are you right with God? Eternal heaven or an eternal hell? You are loved as God's special creation, but because God is all holy you are cut off from Him by your wickedness and under His judgment. The Bible tells of God's one solution: Jesus, fully God and fully sinless man, ransomed us to God through His death on the cross. He paid our sin-debt and rose from the dead as proof that He is the way and the truth. Be reconciled to God! Repent {turn from sin) and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
I respectfully disagree. This emergent presentation takes the beautiful gospel of our Lord and smashes a bunch of liberal ideology into it. There were no supporting Scriptures for your allegations that Jesus wants us to join "a resistance movement." The true gospel is the scandalous message of sin, repentance, faith and restoration that got the apostles, and many since them, martyred. (continued)
Our calling as Christians is to spread the message of the cross that whosoever will may be saved - from HELL, not from "social injustice." To be saved is to be supernaturally changed into a new creation by the power of God through the blood of His Son, not to be "empowered to be more like Jesus." (continued)
While this was somewhat better than Mr. Choung's version, it was still sorely lacking in the message of repentance of sin and trust in Christ, and heavy-handed with politics. I fear this will aid in producing false converts and unwittingly lead many to hell.
Haha -- no fair, you got eight and a half minutes instead of three! But seriously, this is a great adaptation! Thanks for all your work on this, Eric!

@DuctTapeDefender Interesting. Please elaborate?

@klunky and just to clarify, I resent the balking as well.
