  • BAD LOW SOUND WHAT A PITTY!

  • No way is this "better" than the Electric album version... but i do love the vibe - it definitely came more from the Love sessions... its amazing to see this original version performed live here. Great stuff.

  • Bettie Page??? Ahhhhh Ian =P

  • HURRICANE CALLS MY NAME... E'LECTRIIIIIC OCEAAAAAANN!!!

  • cool version. so different

  • Bons tempos que não voltam mais..... Dores de Campos-Brasil-MG

  • Sorry, I love the "Love" period, but these tunes are much more fun "Electrified". They want to rock, but the goth sensibility holds them back. Kinda dull...

  • Les Warner!

  • Best version from peace session the version on electric sucks also saw them 5times on love tour the live version sounds like rock rock till you drop fuckin def leppard riff!

  • I am a BIG Cult fan but Ians voice was never meant for stadiums he doesnt have the vocal range or the strength to carry it. His voice changes when he shouts and he hasnt looked after it very well.

    Great clip and song.

  • Jamie always looked like he was having soooo much fun!

  • sweat ass footage here. Thanks for the clip...

    This totally brings back memories.

  • sweat ass footage here. Thanks for the clip...

  • sweat ass footage here. Thanks for the clip...

  • They all look sooooooo absolutely COOL, especially Billy with his rockabilly haircut, and Jamie too. Is this Mark Brzezicki on drums?

  • @elefou Les Warner drummer until matt sorum joined

  • @elefou Les Warner drummer until Matt Sorum joined

  • i really wish there was a cult 'peace' album...

  • You know your in Finland when you look from the stage and see a sea of Blondes:)

  • proud to have been involved in this era.Truely the" cult "of the 80's!<3R!

  • exelente este flako pelukon ,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • dude on base....flock o' seagulls.

  • Rick Ruben, oh God of Rock, please have this song re released, remastered if necessary because we the audience demand it! Pretty please.

  • @lordjarvis The original studio version is from the Manor Sessions. These are also known as the "Peace" album. All of the tracks were later scraped and re-worked to the Electric album.

  • Yes, Rick Rubin, maybe they just "sold out" themselves...after Love, it was pretty much gone.

  • I've been trying to get my hands on the studio version of this version of this song and I can't seem to find it. It's really bummin me out. Pleeease, The Cult re release this song!

  • Hey I think i might have it , if you would like me to burn you a copy or if you could tell me how to send it to you just let me know. I have 3 versions and there all very similar to the way ian sings it on this video, its not the crappy sounding album version. if yeah no wat i mean.

  • @lordjarvis find yourself a copy of the "Rare Cult" box set - this version or something very close is on the "Peace" disk I think. You can still find them from time to time on E-Bay and such.

  • The tail end of the 1980's brought with it an almost ending for the love of this type of music, though I have always loved post-punk,goth,metal, hard rock, alternative, the media, hollywood, music industry began to push Rap and HipHop and the younger generation started soaking it up, the 90's onward really sucked as far as musical creativity, there will never be another decade like the 80's which had the best music and bands, especially the beginning to mid 80s, I remember but was too young to enjoy

  • @undergroundbasement

"there will never be another decade like the 80's which had the best music and bands,especially...."

Basically true but you're forgetting all the great grunge bands of the 90's.

  • @undergroundbasement

Dude the 80's were great and so were the 90's. If you dismiss 90's bands like Soundgarden, AIC, STP etc...you must have been too high.

  • @undergroundbasement

    I Don't agree.

90's dropped bombs of great music.

and Hip-Hop and alternative Rock music birthed some of its best and the most creative music

  • monnor was the best (electric)sonic temple should have been so much better

  • In my personal opinion...I really think Rick Rueben killed the cult. I never liked anything after The Love album. Maybe a few tracks here and there. But I think they found a new style with the love album after dreamtime and ghost dance and what not and i wished they wouldve got to explore it a lil more. But i still love the cult for life!

  • I was there.. very very hot day.. Ian seems to be struggling.. In my ears the band was not tight that day,, Bad audio mix You can't hear even HiHat maybe that's why there's no groove.Jamie's cool/in flames though. Year later for example that Brixton Devil much more tighter.. Lez shivering less up/down. new kind of approach to their music (producer?) or they just welded better together ..As You know there was an other drummer on Love album.. Peace.. tai jotai..

  • Ian had his glory and he will always be remembered as a sex god - a beauty, that one and only voice, who moved like him? I LOVE, LOVE LOVE him - PLUS - I heard he's very humble and cool as I love in L.A. and many music people say he's a great guy.

  • well said and many many would agree.... I myself loved his moves and that famous hair flippin' oh yeahhhhh got me everytime....... peace

  • have you heard the original "Peace" album? listen to the whole thing, then get back to me on that comment. I love both... but with the original, they were following the Love groove

  • Thanks God for Rick Rubin. This version sucks!

  • I prefer the original Love Removal Machine.

  • Ehhh...I think he killed the cult. But I respect your opinion.

  • The Cult never needed producers to influence their style after Steve Brown, Rubin Ruined it all, and they never recovered long live the peace album baby

  • I tend to agree although if it wasnt for electric i suspect the Cult may well have struggled to get finance for Sonic Temple...

  • I feel priveleged to have seen these guys on this tour April 86 in Boston and I 'll see them tommorow night in Boston. One of my favorite bands and they always put on a good show even when Ian falls down drunk. Well those days are behind him. HeHeHe

  • Just like the version off the "Manor sessions"

  • ..not fond of the fringe !

  • I would love to have this Finland concert on DISC!! Absolutely awsome!!GREAT SOUND AND STYLE!!

  • I wish this audio was louder damn it!!!!! Tis a cool tune!

    I like this version!!

  • I dig this song -- I love the "Peace" outtakes. Ian's voice was so amazing here. Have to admit, I even like the bangs!

  • Huge fan ,sounds very weak.

  • I love Billy's guitar solo on this as well :D

  • I like this version more. It's just way better than "Electric" version. I love the main riff!

  • I reckon peace would've been a great album. It would act as a natural progression from love and a predeccessor to sonic temple. The three go together well if u listen to them one after the other.

  • infinitely more interesting than the rick rubin mutilation

  • This is the Manor Sessions version

  • Nah, this precedes the Manor Sessions version - this is the version from the Out of Bounds soundtrack. If you want it I can send it to you, I need to get rid of stuff and can't bother with ebay.

  • If you can get me a copy of the "out of bounds" mix of ELECTRIC OCEAN I would appreciate it...

  • how could anyone give thumbs down to this comment? the peace version of this songs rocks and the electric version is just a complete mess. way to go rubin, you demolished a beautiful song

  • i've recently bought the rare cult 6 disc box set with this version included,i have to say if you can afford to buy it it's well worth it,brilliant.

  • Ian had bangs?!

  • I know he changes his hair like he changes his underwear it seems.hahaha

  • i bet he dont ware underware . omy im smileing . but his hair looks good allways .

  • hahaha probably not.you don't see any underwear lines.tehehehehe

  • No, he is not wearing underware.

  • MsDaniel1964 = did you fail english class?

  • i reckon love and sonic temple are their best albums deffo,i do like this version though big time, it's got a proper good groove to it.

  • Now that is just the kind of music I LOVE to hear after studying good books!

  • i dont care what anyone says. love is great yes, but electric and sonic temple are just as good. sonic temple is my favorite cult album personally. its a mix of love and electric.

  • Wow! I've never heard this version before. It sounds a lil more psychedelic than the Electric album version... more like Dreamtime and the earlier 'Cult songs. Man... Ian Astbury had hair that women would kill for!

  • I think you can find this version in the Rare Box set...

  • the original electric is called peace. and both versions are great, electric is more raw and heavy. peace is more like love.

  • Look out for The Manor Session CD. There's five Electric tracks in their original (and best IMO) format before being ruined by Rubin.

  • Astbury... striking resemblance to Jim Morrison...? hehe

  • Ians's love for everything American ruined The Cult. Instead of building on the original brilliance of creativity that was Love, they instead followed every American trend that followed. In the late 80's it was cock rock, in the early 90's grunge, mid 90's industrial, and early 00's indy rock. Whatever is hot at the time Ian gets influenced by & writes accordingly. I find the original versions off Peace way superioe than the ac/dc rip-offs off Electric.

  • weeeell...sorta kinda more or less...I mean, Rubin was the main instigator of the stylistic change from the "Peace" sessions into "Electric", and "Sonic Temple" was actually Billy's baby more than Ian's... like I said, I love every single album they have ever released, but I reckon that their first 2 were their most unique and that their contineous stylistic change ended up backfiring...commercially, at least...

  • Yeah! Although I absolutely love every single piece of music The Cult has ever released, I agree with most comments: "Love" is not only their most unique sounding album, but one of the most unique sounding albums in rock, period. They should have kept more of that sound... maybe instead of changing their sound with each record, they should've added more, different elements in EACH album: a few straight rockers, a few goth rockers, etc...

  • Whoa... Knew of the pre-Elecrtic versions but never knew they went live with them before the rewrite. Cool post ! Thanks!

  • would you look at that. Ian and I have the same haircut!

  • omg same here aye! omg he stole my hair cut...lol

  • I wish I had that hair!

  • GREAT VID DO YOU HAVE MORE?

  • This version appeared in the movie "Out of Bounds". It is in the scene when Anthony Michael Hall is going into a bar, and this song is playing in the background.

  • I saw them in New Jersey during the Electric tour. They opened up for Billy Idol and blew him away. Ian's hair was down to his ass. What a fucking show. Probably in the top 3 of shows I've seen and I've seen many.

  • profound and mesmorizing...

    CFFC

  • They should have kept that riff! The other is good, but this is a way better version.

  • I agree. 100%. But they would not have lasted with that sound for much longer. The "Love" album was the most unique rock album I have ever heard. Nobody else sounded like that ever! IT's Billy's guitar effects man. Beautifull.

  • Well, I was there in the sunshine by the tent on the back....they played luod like hell!

  • They were LOUD when I saw them too around 1989/90.

  • I have to say, thats a catchy guitar riff. maybe they should have kept it for the Electric album.

  • Wow, this is before Electric. This is the version I heard first, cause I bought Electric after Rare Cult. You know, Disc 3 (Unreleased "Peace" album) was originally what was meant to be their next release. I'm glad Rubin made them remix everything. Still, this is almost catchy enough to be along side the other Electric tracks.

  • Thanks for letting me know that. I must get Rare Cult now.

  • You want me to email you that track? The whole set is very expensive.

  • Thanks but I got coin man.

  • damb i love the cult... for those reading.. check out the cult on the tube!!!! especially the songs christians, and 83rd. dream. this band is the definition of rock and roll. jaimes moves are priceless.

  • This version is way better. Manor Sessions.

  • I don't know. They're so different; each is catchy in its own way.

I think they renamed this version "Crystal Ocean," but then ditched it completely and gave that title to another song.

  • Well, I mean, the other version grabs you, but this one flows real well.

  • yeah, just heard that for the first time!!!,shit that is a cool sounding song,it just has to be played loud!!

  • GODS! CFFC!

  • rubber stamps

  • What a great riff!!!

  • Billy Duffy is a Grand Master

    CFFC

  • What jamie stewart doing now

  • Other guitar track is missing. Still kicks ass!!

  • PERFECTO!

  • This goes to show that the Cults sound is to layered to try to sound like AC/DC. They need a good rhythm section like these guys. They should have tried to expand on this sound, and try to sound like themselves!

  • "Ocean of Looove, thinking of!" Yeh! Ian and Billy are better than AC/DC

da da da dada adadadad I love this band! KEEP ON ROCKINGYOURSELF

  • More research needed dude ;-)

  • What can I say ?

    Thank You for this video.

  • Great performance! They had a great sound during this era, Rick Rubin has a lot to answer for!

  • Vastly superior to the version on "Electric". I remember hearing this one on the "Out of Bounds" soundtrack in '87.

Is it just me, though, or does Ian look a little bit like Chrissy Hynde in this video, and "Love Removal" ?

  • wow ....is right great guitar and Ian is sexy

  • Man the original versions are so much better than the Electric ones

And whats with not putting Zap City on electric it was one of their best songs, if u ask me

  • I agree, I love Zap city, it should have been featured on one of their albums!

  • However, I prefer the changes they made to Electric, as it was a nice contrast to Love.

  • I always found it amazing how much they changed their sound in just 6 months time.

  • Wow!
