No way is this "better" than the Electric album version... but i do love the vibe - it definitely came more from the Love sessions... its amazing to see this original version performed live here. Great stuff.
Sorry, I love the "Love" period, but these tunes are much more fun "Electrified". They want to rock, but the goth sensibility holds them back. Kinda dull...
Best version from peace session the version on electric sucks also saw them 5times on love tour the live version sounds like rock rock till you drop fuckin def leppard riff!
I am a BIG Cult fan but Ians voice was never meant for stadiums he doesnt have the vocal range or the strength to carry it. His voice changes when he shouts and he hasnt looked after it very well.
@lordjarvis The original studio version is from the Manor Sessions. These are also known as the "Peace" album. All of the tracks were later scraped and re-worked to the Electric album.
I've been trying to get my hands on the studio version of this version of this song and I can't seem to find it. It's really bummin me out. Pleeease, The Cult re release this song!
Hey I think i might have it , if you would like me to burn you a copy or if you could tell me how to send it to you just let me know. I have 3 versions and there all very similar to the way ian sings it on this video, its not the crappy sounding album version. if yeah no wat i mean.
@lordjarvis find yourself a copy of the "Rare Cult" box set - this version or something very close is on the "Peace" disk I think. You can still find them from time to time on E-Bay and such.
The tail end of the 1980's brought with it an almost ending for the love of this type of music, though I have always loved post-punk,goth,metal, hard rock, alternative, the media, hollywood, music industry began to push Rap and HipHop and the younger generation started soaking it up, the 90's onward really sucked as far as musical creativity, there will never be another decade like the 80's which had the best music and bands, especially the beginning to mid 80s, I remember but was too young to enjoy
In my personal opinion...I really think Rick Rueben killed the cult. I never liked anything after The Love album. Maybe a few tracks here and there. But I think they found a new style with the love album after dreamtime and ghost dance and what not and i wished they wouldve got to explore it a lil more. But i still love the cult for life!
I was there.. very very hot day.. Ian seems to be struggling.. In my ears the band was not tight that day,, Bad audio mix You can't hear even HiHat maybe that's why there's no groove.Jamie's cool/in flames though. Year later for example that Brixton Devil much more tighter.. Lez shivering less up/down. new kind of approach to their music (producer?) or they just welded better together ..As You know there was an other drummer on Love album.. Peace.. tai jotai..
Ian had his glory and he will always be remembered as a sex god - a beauty, that one and only voice, who moved like him? I LOVE, LOVE LOVE him - PLUS - I heard he's very humble and cool as I love in L.A. and many music people say he's a great guy.
have you heard the original "Peace" album? listen to the whole thing, then get back to me on that comment. I love both... but with the original, they were following the Love groove
The Cult never needed producers to influence their style after Steve Brown, Rubin Ruined it all, and they never recovered long live the peace album baby
I feel priveleged to have seen these guys on this tour April 86 in Boston and I 'll see them tommorow night in Boston. One of my favorite bands and they always put on a good show even when Ian falls down drunk. Well those days are behind him. HeHeHe
I reckon peace would've been a great album. It would act as a natural progression from love and a predeccessor to sonic temple. The three go together well if u listen to them one after the other.
Nah, this precedes the Manor Sessions version - this is the version from the Out of Bounds soundtrack. If you want it I can send it to you, I need to get rid of stuff and can't bother with ebay.
how could anyone give thumbs down to this comment? the peace version of this songs rocks and the electric version is just a complete mess. way to go rubin, you demolished a beautiful song
i dont care what anyone says. love is great yes, but electric and sonic temple are just as good. sonic temple is my favorite cult album personally. its a mix of love and electric.
Wow! I've never heard this version before. It sounds a lil more psychedelic than the Electric album version... more like Dreamtime and the earlier 'Cult songs. Man... Ian Astbury had hair that women would kill for!
Ians's love for everything American ruined The Cult. Instead of building on the original brilliance of creativity that was Love, they instead followed every American trend that followed. In the late 80's it was cock rock, in the early 90's grunge, mid 90's industrial, and early 00's indy rock. Whatever is hot at the time Ian gets influenced by & writes accordingly. I find the original versions off Peace way superioe than the ac/dc rip-offs off Electric.
weeeell...sorta kinda more or less...I mean, Rubin was the main instigator of the stylistic change from the "Peace" sessions into "Electric", and "Sonic Temple" was actually Billy's baby more than Ian's... like I said, I love every single album they have ever released, but I reckon that their first 2 were their most unique and that their contineous stylistic change ended up backfiring...commercially, at least...
Yeah! Although I absolutely love every single piece of music The Cult has ever released, I agree with most comments: "Love" is not only their most unique sounding album, but one of the most unique sounding albums in rock, period. They should have kept more of that sound... maybe instead of changing their sound with each record, they should've added more, different elements in EACH album: a few straight rockers, a few goth rockers, etc...
This version appeared in the movie "Out of Bounds". It is in the scene when Anthony Michael Hall is going into a bar, and this song is playing in the background.
I saw them in New Jersey during the Electric tour. They opened up for Billy Idol and blew him away. Ian's hair was down to his ass. What a fucking show. Probably in the top 3 of shows I've seen and I've seen many.
I agree. 100%. But they would not have lasted with that sound for much longer. The "Love" album was the most unique rock album I have ever heard. Nobody else sounded like that ever! IT's Billy's guitar effects man. Beautifull.
Wow, this is before Electric. This is the version I heard first, cause I bought Electric after Rare Cult. You know, Disc 3 (Unreleased "Peace" album) was originally what was meant to be their next release. I'm glad Rubin made them remix everything. Still, this is almost catchy enough to be along side the other Electric tracks.
damb i love the cult... for those reading.. check out the cult on the tube!!!! especially the songs christians, and 83rd. dream. this band is the definition of rock and roll. jaimes moves are priceless.
