Having just heard Pierre Van Der Linden (Focus original & only drummer) play this tonight (Opera House, Buxton) have to say she's not bad, but has a long way to go..& he doesn't use a double bas drum set up.

And she has time on her side as well mind you. I wonder how she'd play it now three and half years later from uploading :) To use different set of drums doesn't matter. It's funny how people here think that it has to be exactly the same instrument be it guitar, drums or whatever. The style & notes played are the most significant part especially for acoustic instruments. Electrics have the knobs to modify sounds for the songs and musicstyle.

@lineswine I did and you apparently did not understand what you were reading. I said it is not necessary to use exactly the same drumset to play whatever song. It is the notes played that make the song. It is entirely different thing to aquire the most original instrument possible and then copy the song note-for-note than to play the song on with what you happen to use. It is up to the studio, recording etc. what the sound on the original is + the whole band situation.

I'm still tripping out on your version of Hocus Pocus, heh heh! I found a fairly recent vid of Focus with Van Leer doing his usual craziness and a really nice flute solo in the beginning. He can't hit the really high notes anymore, but his lead guitarist does double duty and fills in at the top end. :-)) This guy's in his 60's and they still do the tune at breakneck speed.. like over 200 BPM, LOL!!

Excellent!! There are very few musicians that can do this and do it right. Now that you've got a year and a half more experience under your belt, you oughta do this again and kick the bpm from 165 up to 175 or 180. :)) Van Leer from Focus does it over 200 bpm, but he's just completely nutz! Funny guy :) Even now he still does special appearences, but his current lead player has to help him on the high parts, LOL!!
